We announced our board structure here: https://www.anthropic.com/index/the-long-term-benefit-trust

Quoting:

"""The Trust is an independent body of five financially disinterested members with an authority to select and remove a portion of our Board that will grow over time (ultimately, a majority of our Board). Paired with our Public Benefit Corporation status, the LTBT helps to align our corporate governance with our mission of developing and maintaining advanced AI for the long-term benefit of humanity."""

Fixed, thank you for pointing that out!

Replied there, thank you for pointing to that.

The canonical answer is in this on the 3rd bullet point: https://support.anthropic.com/en/articles/7996866-how-long-d...

I’m excited that you’re passionate about privacy. We’ve put a lot of thought into our policies.

Whoops, fixed.

We have SOC 2 Type 1 and HIPAA now. Working on more. Excited that you liked it!
jasondclinton··on 40% of Google users now connect via IPv6
Even worse, to this day, Ubiquity still does not support Android IPv6 clients because their internal-facing RA dnsmasq configuration has a bug. It would take an engineer a few hours to fix it; it's a one-line change. It's been reported and tracked internally in their support queue for more than two years; nothing has come of it.
jasondclinton··on My upgrade to 25 Gbit/s Fiber To The Home
I'm also in SF Bay Area and I just had 3 Gbps symmetric fiber installed by Comcast. This is their $299/mo "Gigabit Pro" option. I posted about it on Reddit here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Comcast_Xfinity/comments/tkmv9y/upd...

There's a benchmark posted there showing that the speed is really as advertised.

jasondclinton··on Ask HN: Why is Firefox losing marketshare and how would you save it?
Yes, because Firefox allows uBlock on Android. Browsing the mobile web with ad-block is such a huge quality improvement.
jasondclinton··on mmWave radar, you won't see it coming
This doesn't work for conduit and plumbing. mmWave radar does.
jasondclinton··on mmWave radar, you won't see it coming
I've been waiting for someone to finally make a consumer stud finder that works and this just might finally happen after this deregulation of the spectrum.

The construction industry would hand over wheelbarrows full of money for a BLE phone-paired puck that located studs and pipes behind drywall. Someone could even sell a "pro" version that combined the data from multiple pucks to render a 3D point cloud of the inside of the wall on the user's phone.

jasondclinton··on I went to the office for the first time. I fucking hated it
How am I missing the point with a comprehensive training program that explicitly allows people to continuously engage with their mentor and have face time?
jasondclinton··on I went to the office for the first time. I fucking hated it
The mentors and mentees meet daily for the first few weeks and then taper off to as-need screen sharing sessions. So, plenty of human contact.
jasondclinton··on I went to the office for the first time. I fucking hated it
Lucidchart has been my go to. Allows multiple users in the same whiteboard at once. Legible text as opposed to whiteboard scribble. Easily rearrange block diagrams. Permanent record of a diagram session that can be thrown in a design doc.
jasondclinton··on I went to the office for the first time. I fucking hated it
The solution is obvious: structured training and mentoring. When the pandemic hit, I was hiring a team of 5 new engineers. What was I going to do? Throw up my hands?

I implemented a weekly technical training program that morphed into the 250 person org official onboarding. Weekly, I literally just get someone on a VC for 30 minutes and record having a conversation about a technical topic at a noobie level. 16 months later we have 50+ training videos on every topic.

We implement mentors and formal onboarding processes with screen sharing and remote whiteboating sessions, too.

It's not hard.

jasondclinton··on Ask HN: Engineering managers; what are the problems you face?
Career development for everyone on the team equally. It's hard to shape the project structure in such a way that it fits the capacity while also being highly visible and allowing for growth.
jasondclinton··on Atomic resolution video of salt crystals forming in real time
Non-physicist question: why does the block of the forming crystal move as a whole back and forth? Is this Brownian motion in action?
jasondclinton··on Former Tesla engineer sues for defamation
I have 500 karma and I don't see a UI element to try to vouch for it.
jasondclinton··on Creating a Home IPv6 Network
Submitting this because the discussion of the IPv6 concepts and their relation to IPv4 was useful, not because it advocates OpenWRT or that everyone go through the trouble of editing config files.

FWIW, I'm using a consumer router with IPv6 support with the proprietary firmware and the tests at the end of the article say that everything is working well. So, it looks like IPv6 is finally happening for people who don't have time to dive into this deeply.

jasondclinton··on Portland passes low-density zoning reform
Bold claim. No city has managed to implement a walking-only mobility plan, yet. I'd like to see that future but it seems increasingly unlikely.
jasondclinton··on Portland passes low-density zoning reform
Isn't that exactly the definition of the removal of a mandate?
jasondclinton··on Portland passes low-density zoning reform
The removal of the off-street parking mandate will also impact EV adoption. Parking is already difficult to find in many older Portland neighborhoods.

Edit: You need a place to plug-in your EV at night.

jasondclinton··on Ask HN: Newly Remote Workers – Where Are You Moving?
In the same situation also trying to climb the corporate ladder but more interested in early retirement than material wealth. I'm guessing that the FAANG that I work for will go to commute-one-day-per-week for everyone when this is all over so we're taking that bet and moving to Napa this week. 1.5 hour commute one day per week (when we eventually go back) is doable in exchange for the huge decrease in cost vs Santa Cruz (where we also looked). If it doesn't work out, we'll reevaluate in a year and maybe move again. Worst case: we saved a ton of money on real estate for a year.
jasondclinton··on Onyx is violating the Linux kernel's license, refuses to release source code
Wow, that post is so ad hominem that it makes him less credible. Is this how he usually responds?
jasondclinton··on Systemd: Don’t fallback to Google NTP and DNS
Asking someone if they are a shill is never "a perfectly valid question".
jasondclinton··on San Francisco apartment rent prices are dropping fast
Also notable: virtually isolated from natural disasters: no earthquakes, tornadoes, hurricanes, wild fires (in the urban areas), volcanoes, floods, tsunamis, land slides, avalanches, or sink-holes.

Also, climate modelling says that it's going to get wetter which would make its land more arable.

So, good retirement investment.
