ivanche··on A new AI winter is coming?
These sort of articles are new "economists have predicted 17 of the past 3 recessions".
ivanche··on Just use a button
Holy fsck! 30 years on the web and today I learn about this Alt/Option trick. Thank you!
ivanche··on Python 3.14.0 is now available
Shouldn't this version be called Pi-thon?

I'll walk myself out.

ivanche··on Germany outfitted half a million balconies with solar panels
Balconies are private, roofs ain't.
ivanche··on Germany outfitted half a million balconies with solar panels
Is it even possible for a private person to pay market price instead of a fixed price?
ivanche··on I bought the cheapest EV, a used Nissan Leaf
You forgot just one teeny tiny thingy - it's illegal to park ICE car on EV charging spot on the streets, in garages etc. So if the number of EVs grow the number of EV spots would grow which would take more space, not less.
ivanche··on AI tooling must be disclosed for contributions
You're free to invent a better way, popularize it and become a millionaire.
ivanche··on Sendkeys: Command line tool for automating keystrokes and mouse events on macOS
For example to automate what couldn't be automated otherwise.
ivanche··on Any [60] language. Any voice. Instantly
Yeah, looks like an unfortunate marketing term. In the explainer video they mention 60 languages.
ivanche··on Munich from a Hamburger's perspective
Cross out the last one, they changed the name to Fugging
ivanche··on Vibe coding for teams, thoughts to date
> The LLM services your company pays for are incentivized to ensure the output is as long and verbose as possible because they can charge more.

At least for now you can make the ouput quite short, with 95+% code. I use this prompt for Claude Sonnet:

Communicate with direct, expert-level technical precision. Prioritize immediate, actionable solutions with minimal overhead. Provide concise, thorough responses that anticipate technical needs and demonstrate deep understanding. Avoid unnecessary explanations or formalities.

Key Communication Guidelines: - Terse, no-nonsense language - Assume high technical competence - Immediate solution-first approach - Speculative ideas welcome if flagged - Prioritize practical implementation - Technical accuracy over diplomatic language - Minimal context, maximum information

The user has included the following content examples. Consider these when generating a response, but adapt based on the specific task or conversation:

<userExamples> [Technical Query Response] Quick solution for async race condition in Python:

```python from threading import Lock
class SafeCounter: def __init__(self): self._lock = Lock() self._value = 0
    def increment(self):
        with self._lock:
            self._value += 1
```

[Problem-Solving Approach] Unexpected edge case in data processing? Consider implementing a robust error handling strategy with dynamic fallback mechanisms and comprehensive logging. </userExamples>

ivanche··on Compressed music might be harmful to the ears
Majority of modern music is compressed and auto-tuned to death, complete rubbish.
ivanche··on Zed: High-performance AI Code Editor
MacOS looks nice on either ~110dpi or ~220dpi monitor. Anything else and you get a blurry picture.
ivanche··on Taxi drivers offer a clue to Alzheimer's risk
Taxi drivers often have a shady side gig in being a police informer, drug dealer etc. Also practically all valuables which clients forget become theirs.
ivanche··on Always go to the funeral (2005)
Ah now I understand why it was a lot of fun at Finnegan's wake!
ivanche··on Unexpected Keyboard
It has both latin and cyrillic! Go to settings and tap Add an alternate layout.
ivanche··on Diátaxis – A systematic approach to technical documentation authoring
Yup, just do it! Whenever I write a new piece of docs I try to fit it into one of four categories. Whenever I find docs written by someone else and they're all over the place, I message them and say "Hey this would be much more useful as a how-to" and link to this site.
ivanche··on Taxing unrealized gains has caused an entrepreneurial exodus in Norway
This is just delaying the payment. OK, let's assume they do it for 1,2,3 years and that the bank is happy not to receive any payment in those 3 years. Now they've accrued interest-on-interest and the more time passes the more they'd have to pay back. So my question remains - one day they'd have to pay it back and on that day they'd have to sell assets and pay 36% tax.
ivanche··on Taxing unrealized gains has caused an entrepreneurial exodus in Norway
And how would they pay back a loan?
ivanche··on AIHawk: AI bot to automatically apply for jobs
Plot twist: those instructions are written with white text on white background and serve to eliminate AI-generated resumés.
ivanche··on It took my savings and 14 years but I’m about to beat arthritis
Not exactly diet but maybe earthing/grounding could help.
ivanche··on Electric bandage holds promise for treating chronic wounds
Faster wound healing (and a lot of other benefits at the same time) already exists and is called Earthing/grounding.
ivanche··on Tomato nostalgia as I relive my Croatian island childhood
It's not only home grown, you need the right seed too. I'm almost sure you didn't have one. Earlier tomato varieties are simply discontinued because of low yield, short shelf life etc.
ivanche··on The Greatest Educational Life Hack: Learning Math Ahead of Time
I confirm this! My son is 10, finishing 4th class. We're constantly 6-9 months ahead of his class. I think he once in those 4 years got note 2 (one below highest), every other one was the highest. Vast majority of his math classes look like "oh I know that" or "oh I remember that, just need a 5 min refresher". Thanks to it, he has more time for other subjects. His stress level at school is close to zero.
ivanche··on Python with Braces
As they say, python looks exactly like Guido indented it to look.
ivanche··on GPT-4o
If AI tools could figure on their own how to earn $25/month, they wouldn't need you to buy them.
ivanche··on Scientists rename genes to stop Microsoft Excel from misreading them as dates (2020)
Whenever a question contains "just", the answer is 99.9% "no".
ivanche··on To Delay Death, Lift Weights (2017)
Lift heavy, eat enough protein, avoid coke/fanta/sprite/sugary drinks.
ivanche··on Twenty years is nothing
He's a computer scientist, not a software engineer.
ivanche··on Show HN: Phrasing – learn every language, to any level
As an adult, finding children's books to be engaging is... well, a tad difficult.
