inphovore··on Is human consciousness creating reality?
Arguably without “consciousness” in general the universe would spring into being, spin about, and die out in a tragic heat death and no one would ever notice.
inphovore··on Ask HN: How does an average person become able to solve any programming problem?
Do you like it?

Is programming a way to survive and you’ve found yourself mixed up in it, or are you having self doubts about something you admire and determine for yourself?

Persistence is crucial, even for geniuses (I’ve been programming since child hood. vic-20 childhood.)

Will you loose days of sleep to save your ass after not putting your nose to the grind sooner?

Will you learn the true secret of masters, that someone else has likely solved your problem and you merely need to “adapt” it to your situation?

Will you get the job done, and stop being a part of the run around?

Computation is after all about results.

If these things you may be a programmer after all, however modest your present circumstance.

inphovore··on Ask HN: Do you subscribe to print magazines anymore?
There are a worthy few publications if they can be afforded (high end design, architecture, chronology, etc.)

A worth while mention out of print (truly inspirational and excellent quality production)

Modern Farmer

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Modern_Farmer_(magazine)

And if you have obtainium, there’s Jane’s Defense https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jane's_Defence_Weekly

inphovore··on How Can We Break Our Obsession with Meetings?
Be more accountable.

If everyone could deliver from spec without hand holding, meetings would be unnecessary.

inphovore··on The Military’s White Democrat Problem
What a crazy farce.

White hate is a well organized American power cult wearing conservatism and nationalism as a familiar costume.

These retellings of the narrative are insidious pathological lies.

The problem isn’t democrat or republican, it is thought controlled American.

If the government wants to avoid a military recruiting crisis, politicians should not be so careless with their lives.

inphovore··on S.A. council forced to dispel ‘bizarre’ claims of Musk using mind-control chips
Ironic where it is well organized white terror dispersing the conspiracies of the jewish conspiracies. Thought control is the industry of white hate.
inphovore··on Ask HN’S: predictions :what changes in society will chat GTP make?
Not as much or in the ways as many think.

Firstly, it’s a talkative charming idiot. Did I mention pathological lier? We are going to start learning a lot more about our own awareness and expectations as the cognitive deficiencies of this approach are weighed.

All that said, it does generate some really nice starter content. If more creative processes use it as a sound board, this may be the cure for writers block, and spice up “back ground” material throughout.

More work needs doing, though as a true decision support system this whole approach may prove problematic.

inphovore··on Requiem for a string: Charting the rise and fall of a theory of everything
Our best quantum theory suggests particles are discretely bound potential.

I’m not all in on string theory, though it is apparent potential is bound (by spin) into discrete packets (particles) in either stable form (matter) or radiant (the other stuff.)

These are all “the same stuff”, which through displacement (potential cannot exist in the same proximity without interference) gives rise to discrete state and the existential universe we all know and love.

inphovore··on Why More Physicists Are Starting to Think Space and Time Are ‘Illusions’
Physicists aren’t real good philosophers (for better or worse), and thus these interpretive expressions are counter productive and edge nonsensical.

Okay, physicists say they don’t exist. Thanks.

The Universe isn’t a thing (state or collection of states.) the universe is the potential of all existence, which resolves into state in the moment of NOW.

This continuous collapse in the moment of now gives rise to the state of the universe.

Entanglement demonstrated there is an underlying aspect of existence (universal potential) of which space time emerges rather than the other way around.

Universal potential exists outside of space time. Space time is a manifestation of universal potential.

If we relate to string theory, we could say universal potential is a ~ten/eleven dimensional vibration of potential, of which time and space is an extrapolation.

Existence still exists. Objective Reality is the manifest form (state’s collapse) of universal potential in the moment of now (the only moment which truly exists.)

What we think of as existence and potential needs work. Thanks for keeping at it physicists!

inphovore··on Ask HN: Did improving conversation and listening skills win you anything big?
Yes, POWER.

As true power is “the capacity for effect” (if it is not effective, it is not powerful); listening and communicating well makes you more effective as a human being at everything, even when to keep one’s mouth shut!

Better relationships, higher quality personal and professional conversations, are only beginnings.

Do not be one of these people who only think in terms of the utility of others. Being a charming douche isn’t an “improvement”. Listening and communicating well are a qualitative human skill, not just “useful.”

inphovore··on Ask HN: What Needs to Be Automated?
We should stop going on about this sham of “AI”, and discuss Behavioral Intelligence.

The question you might ask is “what intelligent behaviors do we need?”

I think modern ML is suitable for building a tricorder like devices. Color test paint, check wear through resonance, interpret x-rays or infra-red patterns.

A self balancing hammer?

Novelty in application is endless. Knowing what you want before seeing it is hard.

inphovore··on Learning Styles Don't Exist
Refutation: this study shows direct cognitive immersion outperformed their sensory style approach. Not that individual cognitive strategies do not exist.

Making someone do something is far more effective than waiting for someone to be comfortable doing so.

Over their lives, each student will have their own struggles, and each having familiarities with cognitive styles will make students more prepared learners. (I wish I had been formally taught mnemonics.)

Learning to make yourself do things you do not want to do is the ultimate hand craft of self development.

inphovore··on Ask HN: What are we even chasing?
Hello,

Enlightened ascendant being here, I have some perspective for you …

In the beginning, there is the discovery of meanings, then the self while at the same time the self relationships with everyone and everything else …

And then, for those aspiring or just damn lucky, a glimmering ray of light penetrates the monotonous gloom.

A meaning beyond self worthy of devotion.

This may rise or fall, be ever lasting or a series of elevated epiphanies, However without question the ultimate fulfillment of existential being is …

TO GO BEYOND SELF

TO BE MORE THAN THE SELF

To make consequences of your life out to be more than the sum of consumptive waste keeping you alive.

This is the ultimate human endeavor.

Btw, your self excellence comes by decades of determination, not a few years here and there.

inphovore··on Can US shale gas save Europe from its energy crisis?
We should practice going after these jerks who have been touting “energy independence” by taping domestic reserves just to save Ameri-Karen’s from steep gas prices (for their absurdly sized vehicles.)

Keep it in the ground unless emergency.

I don’t refer to this instance when I say in general; rail against these hypocritical pundits calling themselves conservative who cannot conserve.

Start talking about how wasteful we are with resources while we scrounge those up for our imminent needs.

Use what you need, don’t be a waste!

inphovore··on Against the Cult of Originality: Emerson on the True Nature of Genius
Originality is a short order scam.

Look back through history, and you will find most great works are the reprocessing of time honored classics for modern consumption.

Cultural appropriation is how civilizations thrive, remix, and invigorate themselves.

Let’s look at a few literary traditions:

Homer, Virgil, Ovid, Dante, Milton, Hess, Nietzsche, … Tolkien, and so on to name a few.

inphovore··on Why Conspiracy Theories Work
They don’t, really.

Those popularized are so silly and have such absurd influence you forget that one way or another THERE IS A CONSPIRACY AGAINST YOUR NATURAL DESTINIES. Either something is wrong with the nebulous opaque system of power in the world, or these people are STIRRED UP AS A CONSPIRACY AGAINST YOU!

Your government is corruptible and incompetent.

The populous is a mob of the ignorant and confused.

You know your media is manipulated, you know special interests are more influential than public dialogue, you know there are haters out there willing to undermine and exploit others for their own interests.

Stop rationalizing to yourselves that there aren’t conspiracies, or that everything is fine.

We live in such a way that it takes TEN YEARS to see the consequences of policies or notable events of the world.

inphovore··on Ask HN: What are some things we don't talk about, but should?
I said systems which are stable are not corrupt, as found in abundance in nature, not that nature does not include examples of what happens when a system becomes corrupt.

Population density breeds disease and parasites (of the biological kind.)

Population out of balance with resources is a systemic corruption that living strategies resolve dynamically through time.

inphovore··on Ask HN: What are some things we don't talk about, but should?
I disagree. Stable systems are not corrupt. Look at nature.

Corruption comes by parasites and perversion. In humanity’s case a power (and off hand willingness) to harm greater than accountability.

Comfort, convenience, complicity fine, yet draw the line at collusion or negligence.

inphovore··on Ask HN: What are some things we don't talk about, but should?
How corrupt ordinary people are.

Everyone is always ready to flair up at the government, when these are only ephemeral bodies of individuals.

Humans are corruptible with treacherous hearts.

The government couldn’t really do enough to protect us from each other, yet through the veil of modern civility we have little foreboding of one and other and such a suspicion for the body of governance made in our own image.

inphovore··on The True Story of Brainwashing and How It Shaped America
The “true story of brainwashing?” You’re so screwed!

It’s hard to talk about the greatest crises of our world when you cannot convince a know-it-all american their modern living is built upon a lie incomprehensible to ordinary minds.

We just went through these last “fake news conspiracy” years with the outcome of convincing yourselves that all conspiracies are crazy talk and the conventional narratives capture truth.

There is a conspiracy against your natural destinies, and thought control is more than brain washing.

Screwing with your mind has modernized, these ideas of “brainwashing” are antiquated and miss all practical tells.

inphovore··on Kardashev Scale
I hate this scale.

Categories by these impractical degrees of energy usage and consumption?

Wtf?

Alternate scale of technology:

Mastery of physical reality. Able to manipulate and transmute physical reality.

True fusion, able to collect and parse the gamma ray product into usable power.

True Spacefaring, capable of indefinite habitation in space (foolish humans think you have to go somewhere, merely existing in perpetual habitable comfort is a technological leap.)

Biotechnology, mastery of living systems and the technology of life.

Consciousness as a technology. Faster than light communications, manipulating tools and tech through the mind.

inphovore··on Make believe
Or Zarathustra, by Nietzsche the noble messenger.
inphovore··on Who Benefits Most from a Bloated Pentagon Budget? The Weapons Industry
There is soooo much money going into domestic private sector black op.

The enemy is definitely in America, though these programs funding domestic safe houses and off book training facilities (with “detention” licenses, so .. private prison) are funding that enemy, not protecting us from one.

I put that the LV shooting used munitions paid for by the US government, out of a white hate run private domestic safe house. Someone must have cut their funding.

The bullets were government, bought in Phoenix. Smoking freakin gun suckers, and do you know about it?

It’s not a conspiracy theory to say we’re screwed.

inphovore··on Arizona faces an existential dilemma: import water or end its housing boom
END THE HOUSING BOOM

REIGN IN URBAN SPRAWL!

And for fcuk’s sake Americans, have you ever considered CONSERVING WATER?

inphovore··on Ask HN: How did you all figure it out? Since your so smart
We are not all actually “so smart.” Though some of us operate with varying cognitive advantages.

Here’s what worked for me…

In a Universe governed by entropy, ignorance and confusion is the natural state of mind.

Success is a function of persistence, perseverance, tenacity, endurance, application, willfulness, doing it. Do not forget that.

Everyone is a pathological lier, stop listening to whoever the hell that is.

Simple truths, no matter how boring or unpopular are better in the long run than made-to-believe, whatever it pays.

Oh, and do things the hard way, it is the only way you will truly own it. If you haven’t noticed, everything else is over leveraged.

inphovore··on Make believe
We are self deceivers. The question becomes, is this useful?
inphovore··on Soviet scientists researched telepathy using rabbits onboard a submarine
You throw these terms around, and I’m not sure you’re connotations are quite right.

Anything the wider public is not prepared to accept may be slurred as occultist, and you should know disparaging talk is the surviving side of the discussion.

I’m not advocating the harming of animals (certainly not mates) yet the underlying intrigue remains.

inphovore··on Soviet scientists researched telepathy using rabbits onboard a submarine
Laugh if you like, but remember the snail telegraph

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pasilalinic-sympathetic_comp...

This is all quaint and dated.

The joke is on you, thought control is real and you’re already mixed up in it.

inphovore··on Ask HN: Is 8gb RAM enough for a Linux dev laptop?
I used 8GB for YEARS. Docker stack, python/MySQL, node, etc.

I recently got a new laptop with 4x faster processor and 64GB RAM (just had to have it.)

My experience is speedy sure yet blah.

I passed up a slightly slower lighter model with less ram (granted we’re talking about 40GB now) yet charged with 65w USB-C and 12 hour battery (rather than ~8hr and conventional charger.)

I only wish I payed a little MORE for the 12 hour battery and less RAM!

8GB is fine! Don’t put yourself out for more RAM unless that is what you need.

inphovore··on The Steam Deck wasn’t born ready, but it’s ready now
I’m in a gratifying relationship with my steam deck.

My games (mostly open source or legacy)

Remnants of the Precursors

7 Kingdoms

Warzone 2100 (steam version is broken, native works great through steam)

The Ur-Quan Masters (Awkward install through bottles)

Wizardry 6 (through steam)

Wizardry 7 (through steam)

There are many more playable old school open source games one can install through desktop (and play through steam app for full controller immersion.)
