They say the internet is for porn but it’s really to sell/buy stuff
Edit: even with LLMs the “killer” application is to make it easier to buy things xD
I grew up in Germany but I don’t think we covered this in history class - maybe I forgot about it, the whole medieval period is mostly a blur for me now
Totally agree on the dark patterns though.
Out of interest what is a game you consider excellent that maybe wasn’t marketed as well?
Personally I really like dungeon keeper 1 (& 2 as well somewhat) - but Bullfrog was very unsuccessful as a company and went under. I don’t know exactly why, should look into that history
As someone living here it’s still one of the most carefree and comfy countries I’ve lived in.

Some of the best food I ate in places that looked like complete design wrecks. And yes now these places use a lot of really badly made ai art.
The food is still delicious.
I get reluctance about being dependent from the US but your reason seems a bit off
I used to buy a lot of olive oil in canisters in Italy when on vacation. Just can’t match the quality with what you get on the open market here.
I have always used this method and my managers love me because they know I get important shit done without much supervision or needing dozens of planning meetings. It doesn’t even feel like there is any leash at all.
Of course the company i work at isn’t extremely disfunctional and a growing startup, so once we move into enterprise territory it might change the culture and it’s more about saving your ass and less about doing actual work.
And once you do you need some state and then JWTs don’t make much sense anymore. There are of course many valid use cases for JWT so “JWT bad” is a very reductive take
The question is I guess if you trust pocketbook or Amazon more. I tend towards the former since that is their main business and not one of 1000 things they do.
My last Pocketbook lasted for 12+ years until something heavy fell on the screen one day. But I hear that kindles are similarly robust until amzn decides to brick them.
If it’s unsustainable population growth there will eventually be some catastrophic environmental effects and the population will be reduced to a sustainable level. Of course living during that reduction could be a rather unpleasant experience but it probably also won’t last too long.
If it’s already sustainable everything is fine.
Got a refurbished pocketbook in the end and very happy with it, it reads all imaginable file formats and I can just send books to it via email or cable.
I haven’t read it but the premise is quite cool. Of course having Thiel as a fan kinda ruins it but I still wanted to read it sometime.
It might be different for US Americans themselves and a lot of other countries as well; but for a large part of the west this was/is true
All throughout my adult life the US (for all its apparent faults) was to me a shining example of progress and humanity. It was the best large scale implementation of human rights, laws, and democracy. Sure it was far from perfect but “as good as it gets, for now”
Became very disillusioned with that image of the US in the last couple of years. Maybe it’s always been like that - but the recent cronyism, the blatant openly displayed corruption and complete disregard for all the values it used to champion really destroyed the good image I had of the US.
In years to come they will realise what this loss of image (or “aura” as the kids would say) really means in a very practical and blunt sense.
