hmd_imputer··on The Turkish drone that changed the nature of warfare
From what I can see on twitter, there is a deep-rooted turkophobia in India. Add to that Pakistan's interest in the Bayraktar drones, you have a copium induced hatred.

hmd_imputer··on An Account of the Shanghai Lockdown
What is wrong with people like you? Seriously. There is bunch of content online that shows the severity of the situation in China. Here is one: https://twitter.com/cam_l/status/1512646118575812612 Regarding the fish, I think you have conveniently missed the most important part: "Three fresh fish, a good ‘catch’ for what we can still buy on delivery apps, although you need to check it all day and be extremely lucky you can grab something for the split second it’s available.".

hmd_imputer··on An Account of the Shanghai Lockdown
Apparently you have missed this part - "Three fresh fish, a good ‘catch’ for what we can still buy on delivery apps, although you need to check it all day and be extremely lucky you can grab something for the split second it’s available." -

exactly. I have even seen a video where they found one on a test kit that you push all the way thru your nose.

yet another headline trying blaming some new trend a nonsense

hmd_imputer··on Vitamin D and Inflammation: Potential Implications for Severity of Covid-19
Wow, thanks, I am cured. You know that currently a lot of people all over the World who cannot go out, right?
hmd_imputer··on Vitamin D and Inflammation: Potential Implications for Severity of Covid-19
Just a few days ago there was an article which claimed that Vitamin D supplements were useless (also referring to scientific research). Seriously, at some point, one starts not believing anything related to vitamins, since they seem to contradict one another all the time.
hmd_imputer··on Ask HN: Name one idea that changed your life
there is a saying, although very vulgar, "if you f* you will be loved if you love you will be f*d"
hmd_imputer··on Ask HN: Name one idea that changed your life
In my current company, we have a "calendar week" based schedule. Everything is planned based on that time segmentation principle. For example, "the start of production is planned for calendar week 45" - that is it, no month, no quarter no date - simply, the 45th week of the year.
hmd_imputer··on Germany flips to Apple-Google approach on smartphone contact tracing
it is kind of ironic that a country priding itself in data privacy was pushing for a very centralized data collection, while the "evil Apple" was pushing for a more decentralized and privacy-preserving approach.
hmd_imputer··on Gauss’s “Remarkable Theorem” and the best way to hold a pizza slice (2014)
hmm, I don't think you need to be a math genius to develop an intuitive feeling for it.
hmd_imputer··on Browser-based climate change simulation
So, in the best-case scenario, there will be a mere 1.0degree Celcius increase and in the worst-case scenario, the average increase will be 6.5degree Celcius. I don't know how it is possible to model technological breakthroughs. I mean if we have a working Nuclear Fusion technology by 2100, that could drastically change everything - (almost) free energy = unlimited desalinated water = full aforestation, even in the desert areas.
hmd_imputer··on Google Brass Set 2023 as Deadline to Beat Amazon, Microsoft in Cloud
What is funny is the link reads as "google-reportedly-wants-to-be-top-two-player-in-cloud-by-2023.html"
hmd_imputer··on NASA's Treasure Map for Water Ice on Mars
that was meant to be a sarcastic remark
hmd_imputer··on NASA's Treasure Map for Water Ice on Mars
Just searching Hacker news for "mars water" returns 200 results, dating back to 9 years ago. It seems NASA keeps "finding water" on Mars and then forgets about it.
hmd_imputer··on NASA's Treasure Map for Water Ice on Mars
That is exactly what I wanted to say as well. It seems every other month, I see the exact the same title. At some point, it loses it becomes just another useless news
hmd_imputer··on The first solar road has turned out to be a disappointing failure
The video attracted so much undeserved attention that many engineers felt that they had to produce a corresponding debunk video explaining why it is such a useless idea and why asphalt is currently our best option on building roads.
hmd_imputer··on The first solar road has turned out to be a disappointing failure

hmd_imputer··on GE's smart light bulb reset process is a masterpiece of modern techno-insanity
yeah, see what happens to the economy if half of the people take this way. Let me call bs on that.
hmd_imputer··on GE's smart light bulb reset process is a masterpiece of modern techno-insanity
no, you cannot. Not everyone can. At least, not in Germany. People pay 60% of their net income to rent while working 40 hours a week. How do you expect the rent to be paid with just 15 hours of work per week in Germany?
hmd_imputer··on Heat Wave Results in Highest U.S. Electricity Demand Since 2017

hmd_imputer··on The Touchscreen Infotainment Systems in New Cars Are a Distracting Mess
That part also got my attention. On which alternative universe do these guys live in? We have even come to the point of having no buttons on the front part of a phone (e.g. OnePlus 7 Pro), let alone going back to more buttons. I am also pro physical buttons in cars, but that argument simply doesn't hold.
hmd_imputer··on Why AWS access and secret keys should not be in the codebase
This might sound very obvious, and it is, but there are so many horror stories of people being charged tens of thousands of dollars because they accidentally pushed their secret keys to GitHub or any other public repository hubs, which are being scanned constantly for such credentials.
