I wouldn't say it's much much worse. Lot of the digital service I use, I pay for. And they have human support when I need it.
I don't miss Google services at all.

While I understand the good that YouTube brings, it has such a huge negative side that I wouldn't miss it if it were gone.
But I'm not a power Office user and that's just my preference.

I don't know if Austria mandates masks but your last sentence doesn't seem to hold up according to WHO.
I know South Korea mandates masks and they had 5 cases per 10,000 last week. :)
But I couldn't find a single quality calculator app and got really frustrated.
This was more than 4 years ago though.
I personally never had to do this so I'm not sure if this is a real benefit.
Not everything has to be #1 to be sustainable, interesting and/or worthwhile.

Design, testing, and debugging (which takes up more resources than writing code) require skill in forming good hypothesis and methodical way to test that hypothesis.
These type of courses should be designed more towards those skill sets than just learning to write code.
