henry_viii··on iPhone users can now set WhatsApp as their default calling and texting app
Still can't have 2 WhatsApp accounts on iPhone, though.
henry_viii··on Leave It to Manus
ChatGPT's logo looks like an anus yet they're doing just fine.
henry_viii··on Apple's Software Quality Crisis
On Mail:

Cannot get notifications for new mail on iOS.

On Languages:

Cannot swipe-to-type and dictate in less spoken languages even though this has been possible on Android for over a decade.

henry_viii··on Apple's Software Quality Crisis
On Notes:

1. If you copy some text

2. Select other text

3. Paste the text you copied to replace the selected text

Notes will crash. This has been known for years.

Also if you turn off all suggestions in Spotlight on iOS and just use it as an app launcher, it will still take seconds for Spotlight to show you the results. For something that's supposed to be an indexed look up.

henry_viii··on OpenAI says it has evidence DeepSeek used its model to train competitor
So Meta can train its AI on all the pirated books in the world but people are losing their mind over an AI learning from another AI?
henry_viii··on DeepSeek-R1: Incentivizing Reasoning Capability in LLMs via RL
Isn't the real number around 46,000 people, though?
henry_viii··on Apple squandered the Holy Grail
Yes. Features I use all the time when taking notes in Cursor / VS Code:

- Ctrl + click -> open link in browser

- Alt + shift + click -> create multiple cursors

I keep Cursor minimized when I'm not using it the rest of the time.

henry_viii··on Apple squandered the Holy Grail
> Except for Math Notes. Holy crap. I love Math Notes so much. I wish other note-taking apps had it. It's easily the best feature they've ever come up with.

The Cursor editor literally has this.

henry_viii··on Ask HN: What is your experience with Cursor?
You can also use Supermaven. Steps:

- Click on the Copilot icon on the bottom bar

- Select 'Use Supermaven'

> Lack of conversation sharing... [there is] no way to even print the conversation because it cuts off on the browser (tested on Firefox).

Until they make conversations shareable, in the meantime you can print the whole page in Chrome by:

- going to Developer Tools (Ctrl + Shift + I)

- opening the Command Palette (Ctrl + Shift + P)

- searching for 'screenshot'

- selecting Capture full size screenshot

henry_viii··on Asus Zenbook Duo 2024
Congrats to Asus. I would love to have a laptop as a laptop when I need the portability but also a screen on a stand + wireless keyboard and touchpad when I want the ergonomics.

Are there other products on the market right now that lets us detach the screen off the laptop and still use the keyboard and the touchpad wirelessly?

henry_viii··on OpenAI Committed to Buying $51M of AI Chips from a Startup Backed by Sam Altman
- You make a lot of money, do you?

- I make, no, I paid enough for health insurance. I have no equity in OpenAI.

- Really? That's interesting.

henry_viii··on 280M e-bikes and mopeds are cutting demand for oil far more than electric cars
> a 4000 lb vehicle

Amateur numbers.

The F-150 Lightning is 6,500 lb (2,950 kg) and the Rivian trucks (R1T, R1S) are 7,000 lb (3,175 kg). The electric F-150 is 35% heavier than the ICE model.

henry_viii··on Mojo is a much better “Objective-C without the C” than Swift ever was
Open-sourcing is a double-edged sword. Young ideas are fragile and if they open source the project now, they'll have to deal with entitled people and trolls instead of investing their time developing the project. They have said, though, they are going to open-source the project eventually like Swift.

Also the team behind the project includes very smart people with a history of delivering other great projects (LLVM, Clang, MLIR and Swift).

I don't see how discouraging other people for trying to innovate is helpful. In the end this project could benefit all of us.

henry_viii··on GGML – AI at the Edge
Just wanted to share I think you're a superstar engineer.

Also from the links you shared it looked like some users on 4chan decided to go out and harass you. If they didn't know you are a trans woman, I'm sure they would've defaulted to calling you a n***** f***** instead. But they were going to harass you nonetheless.

It was very sad to see how things developed over a small issue. I'm sure this could've gotten resolved civilly since I believe you and everyone else involved in the project had good intentions and were doing everything out of love.
