I personally think the name of the feature could be better. Maybe "Series"?
There you go!
Like I said, I’m not depressed today but have definitely suffered my share of emotional pain following the loss of my mother and the loneliness that comes with moving to a foreign country where you don’t speak the language.
Here are two frameworks I came up with during those dark years, which still help me today. Not claiming this will help you too, though I hope it does, but perhaps you can find some use in it... even if only as inspiration to find your own frameworks.
Framework 1: Myself > the ones I love > the things I do.
I found these are the building blocks of a happy life, in this order. First I need to be content with myself and to know I‘m worth of respect and love, and no one can help me with this. Then I need to actively seek and nurture the love of others (family, friends, spouse). Only then should I focus on what I‘m doing with the rest of my time (my job, my hobbies).
Framework 2: „The Mix“
This is something that rather helps me keep a happy state of mind. Every week, I try to make sure I fill it with a good „mix” of the following “ingredients”:
- Socializing: of the “deep” kind. Meaning I want to talk to people I love and make an effort to really listen to what they are saying/feeling. To empathize. I’m more interested in a few (maybe starting with one) deep relationships.
- Movement: move my body somehow, preferably outside. I try to do this 4-5x a week. Sometimes it’s just a long walk, sometimes a run, sometimes a workout. Anything counts.
- Inspiration: watch, read, listen to anything or anyone that makes you dream of what life could be.
- Appreciation: make an active effort to objectively realize that some things in your life, even if sometimes only a small few, are positive. I usually do this at night, in bed, before falling asleep.
Hope this is useful in some way. Feel free to email if you need to talk (email in profile)
To me, the process was the following:
1. Realizing that society has created many layers of "fabricated" meaning (thinking of things like a successful career, owning a big house, an expensive car, being the best player in the soccer team, etc). I think those will quickly feel superfluous and the fact they are fabricated becomes apparent. They are in fact meaningless.
2. Understand that behind all that fantasy, we're still rather simple (social) animals. And coming to terms with that, helped me find meaning in basic things I'm hard-wired to enjoy: like nurturing the relationships with the ones I love, challenging myself in some sort of dimension (eg. sports, learning), being a positive influence for the younger generation, etc.
All in all, I think that questions makes you cut-through the bullshit society has fabricated over the years and go back to the core of what exactly makes you feel well. What makes you feel well, even if it's hard, is what you're supposed to do IMO.
But on a more positive note, from everything I've done I also think this kind of positive, magnet-like attitude is the way to go. It's almost like you have to go cross ways with 500 people in order to squeeze out 1 or 2 friends, so you need to speed up that process. Is that how you feel?
Would you just try a new sport and meet people there? How would you even find people that do a certain sport?
Some usability feedback: Adding a new element to the page (+) is the first action and it was hard for me to find it. It's likely also one of the most frequent functions you'll use, so I think this button should have way more relevance, at least on the same level as "Save".
It's platform for skill based voluntary work
You'd potentially lose 5% CR if you ship the variant even when it doesn't show a detectable uplift. Why would you do that?
Asking questions to whole team (or a group in particular) is s need that happens on a daily basis and is most often met by a mass email that gets sent around. These often usually come with a Survey Monkey/Type form/Google Form/etc link in it.
I've built this because I've found that asking (in private message) through Slack leads to considerably higher response rates (+50%) and for the responder, there's no new UI to learn every time a new question comes in.
Hope you like it. Looking forward to get feedback!
To me, the only reason why private (some might say evil) corporations like Elsevier still have a place in the world is because they somehow still have a monopoly for quality/prestige. That's basically for historical reasons and it can be solved by creating an open alternative for assuring quality of papers.
We're building just that, a platform for open peer reviews, meant as a layer over all scientific publications used to surface the valuable content. You can check it's current (early) state at http://peer2paper.org and are very very welcome to get involved in the development.
Feel free to shoot me an email (me @ iamguico -d0t- com) as well, in case you want to discuss anything related to making the highest quality scientific knowledge available to everyone.
Cheers!
I created this list our of personal frustration: the most important criteria for me to find jobs is the purpose of the company/organization - yet it seems basically impossible to filter job opportunities by purpose, regardless of where you search.
Hit me up if you know of a job that should be on this or next month's list!
