grudg3··on Docker Sandboxes – Disposable, isolated sandboxes for AI agents
Wouldn't say 'better' alternative, but I worked on making my own setup that I can trust by implementing a pi extension that leverages smolvm and agent-vault. The VM tooling is controlled by nix flakes. I can't share the source code (developed on company time), but I have a 'spec' of the whole thing, which you should be able to feed to your agent to replicate - https://gist.github.com/mahalel/c4e984292ff90bd4e11269555158...
grudg3··on Googler... ex-Googler
You're taking "Human resources" a bit too literally.
grudg3··on I maintain a 17 year old ThinkPad
Obligatory "I can't even order Framework in my country" post.

But I can get as many Thinkpads as I want.

grudg3··on How Facebook Marketplace is keeping young people on the platform
In some countries, eBay or craigslist was never a thing. In NZ we have our local version of eBay but the success fees have gotten so ridiculously high that FB marketplace is slowly becoming the only option.
grudg3··on The tech utopia fantasy is over
I encourage you to listen to the 4 part series Elon Musk Unmasked [1] from Tech won't save us. His motivations are definitely not for the betterment of the average person.

grudg3··on Hermes 3 – Nous Research
Funny, I had the same thought today and looked into it, but it seems like getting a properly curated dataset is the most difficult part.
grudg3··on Ask HN: How do you sync ongoing browser work between desktop and laptop?
I use Firefox sync between all my devices including mobiles Android and iPhone, plus EndeavourOS, popOS and MacOs. In addition to that I use the tabs stash extension which also syncs all stashes between devices, though I only use that on the desktops/laptops
grudg3··on Rootless Docker in a multi-user environment
Definitely used in HPC environments where multi user is prevalent, I know of it because I used to admin a small HPC
grudg3··on Rootless Docker in a multi-user environment
Well, I'm glad I asked, appreciate your response and great blog post.
grudg3··on Rootless Docker in a multi-user environment
I wonder why people aren't using Singularity containers instead which seem to be rootless by design.
grudg3··on Ask HN: Best Linux Distro for Development
Since no one mentioned it yet, I quite like Endeavour OS the i3 flavour. You get all the Arch goodies with a straightforward installer. And I use nix + yay for package management.
grudg3··on Adventures Making Vegemite
I'm surprised no one mentioned it, but smooshing up a soft avocado mixing it with a small amount of Marmite then spreading it on toast is godlike. Top it with a poached egg and it's perfection.
grudg3··on Framework Laptop 16 Review
Tagging onto this, I still am unable to buy it in NZ, after expressing interest 2 years ago.
grudg3··on The lazy technologist's guide to weight loss
The best diet is one which you can do long term and achieves your goals.
grudg3··on Elevator Expert on How to Move 10k People Up a 118-Floor Skyscraper [video]
Unless the C-levels complain, then the algorithm will be changed to make them happy.
grudg3··on The lazy technologist's guide to weight loss
I'm curious why that is? While I'm not doing keto right now, it has had some really good effects when I did it.

Wife's also doing it for over 2 years now and reversed her pre-diabetic diagnosis and also lost close to 40kgs since she started it.

Is it just too preachy and is causing people to be tired from hearing about it?

grudg3··on Statement regarding the ongoing Sourcehut outage
To answer your 2nd question, yes you can be DDoSd, Azure specifically offers a DDoS protection plan which is quite expensive. https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/ddos-protection/ddos...
grudg3··on How Gyms Make Money (2015)
Why would you shower before exercising and not after?
grudg3··on Ask HN: Favorite Podcast Episodes of 2023?
How did you summarize them with LLM? I'm curious to try it please.
grudg3··on Trains were designed to break down after third-party repairs, hackers find
I've heard of Khmer Rouge but not of Dev Rouge before.
grudg3··on Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive – Liquid Metal
I've been waiting for what feels like a couple of years, and it still doesn't look like I can buy Frameworks in NZ. Real pity.
grudg3··on Framework Laptop 16 Deep Dive – Connectors
I've expressed my interest in a Framework laptop over a year ago and I still can't get one in NZ. I'm starting to lose interest tbh.
grudg3··on Ripgrep 14 Released
rg is great, I use it a lot. Recently I have also used [ambr](https://github.com/dalance/amber) which can do both search (ambs) and replace (ambr) recursively in your codebase. The only problem as of yet is that it does not support globbing so I cannot filter on certain filetypes only.
grudg3··on NewPipe – Lightweight YouTube experience for Android
Agree, but unfortunately I still can't use it to stream to my Chromecast so I need to go to the YouTube app when I want to play stuff on TV
grudg3··on Contour: Modern and fast terminal emulator
Correct. If you run `wsl --shutdown` as an admin then start up Windows Terminal again the delay is back the first run.
grudg3··on Show HN: Paisa – Open-Source Personal Finance Manager
any plans to get this into nixpkgs?
grudg3··on HashiCorp switching to BSL shows a need for open charter companies
Please do not use ARM in 2023, Bicep is a much nicer alternative for a native IaC language.
grudg3··on We’re all just temporarily abled
What would you recommend to someone older to start with? I've done SS in my late 20s but I do feel like I'd like to try something new as I get closer to 40 and considering some exercise. Context, I wfh, am overweight and extremely sedentary. At the moment have been purely working on my diet but exercising is next.
grudg3··on Under $100 Pre-Owned Mini Computers to Use as Desktop PC's and Servers in 2023
That's great, and yeah I've thought about how much sense this makes too, but how can I attach 4x HDDs using SATA3 to an old laptop to function as a NAS? That's my only dilemma.
grudg3··on HashiCorp adopts Business Source License
Bicep does that, but it's Azure only, and you can't really 'destroy', just apply.
