greatgoat420··on Drinking any amount of alcohol causes damage to the brain, study finds
But it has alcohol, usually 2-3% some times much higher, and traditionally has been poorly regulated.

>want publicly schooled kids (including browns and blacks to essentially not receive Math classes)

I don't know that I got that impression from the website I posted. It seems more like trying to get educators to better understand the circumstances of their students, but I could be wrong.

greatgoat420··on The Return of Fancy Tools
Thanks! I hadn't heard about this before!
greatgoat420··on The Return of Fancy Tools
Thanks for replying, I think I get it now. We use SharePoint which has very similar issues.
greatgoat420··on BlueHydra – Bluetooth device discovery service
Could this be used to find beacons in shopping centers that track Bluetooth devices?
greatgoat420··on TSMC looks to double down on U.S. chip factories as talks in Europe falter
> I'm just thinking that long-term military intervention to prevent capture/annexation of Taiwan is completely impossible.

You mean by China? I would certainly agree. Even with most countries not acknowledging Taiwan nationhood I would expect a strong international reaction to any military action by China due to Taiwan's special place in international technology exports.

greatgoat420··on Roden Crater
Thank you for this very nice response, that does sound more interesting!
greatgoat420··on In the search to stall aging, biotech startups are out for blood
If replacing plasma with saline works, shouldn't that occur naturally with bloodletting? Maybe there was something to the practice of leeching.
greatgoat420··on TSMC looks to double down on U.S. chip factories as talks in Europe falter
It has been done in the past, Taiwan is a special topic for the US, I don't know that they would let it get to that point without intervening either diplomatically or militarily.
greatgoat420··on Prioritise the Highest Order Bit
I have tried prioritizing the highest-order bit, but regrettably I never know the endian-ness of my bits. Maybe I am flipping a high order bit, maybe a low order bit.
greatgoat420··on Roden Crater
This seems like a very interesting project, but the website kinda reads like a mad-person wrote it with the bizarre(to me) rhetoric about space and time and somewhat poor quality 3-D renderings. Clearly a lot of people are interested and invested in this project and making this space. Could anyone give a good explanation of what this project is/where this fits in modern art/science exploration?
greatgoat420··on Paper Aeroplane Wind Tunnel
Weirdly enough that is actually an experiment recommended by the FAA for high school students. (https://www.faa.gov/education/educators/activities/highschoo...)
greatgoat420··on The Return of Fancy Tools
I have never used Jira, could you say more about your feelings towards it? Currently we use an old in-house solution and are thinking of shifting.
greatgoat420··on The Return of Fancy Tools
I think there is something with this, and the minor resurgence of interest in C. I think people learn about the issues with memory and threads in C, use some other language and come back to C with better appreciation for what can go wrong and better care to keep things safe. C is the less fancy tool. It gets out of the way as much as VS Code does.
greatgoat420··on TikTok Remix Culture
That was pretty interesting. Combine that with the neural rendering that was posted earlier for GTA-V and you could actually create high quality new novel content from remixes.
greatgoat420··on An Elegant Sufficiency, or the Curious Case of a Victorian Meme (2018)
Right like '23-skidoo' which I remember from an ancedote from some survivors of the titanic (https://www.titanicinquiry.org/BOTInq/BOTInq06Joughin03.php)

> 6344. You are quite right; it is No. 23 door? - We used to call it the skidoo door, on account of the number. That is how I remember the number.

6345. (The Commissioner.) I do not understand that? - It is an American joke.

6346. Will you explain it? - I could not explain it, my Lord.

greatgoat420··on The Spanish Witches of Cartagena
I guess one take away from this would be, be careful about hearing things that confirm your existing beliefs. Another might be that institutions with too much power and no true goal(being that witches do not exist in real life) become corrupt very easily.

Maybe there is some connection between the Spanish Inquisition and AI, given that most AI/ML systems end up reproducing biases inherent in the data/beliefs of those creating them.

greatgoat420··on Rectal Breathing with Perfluorocarbons
It isn't that scary.

>Intra-rectal delivery of a liquid form of O2 known as conjugated perfluorocarbon, a compound historically used in clinics for liquid ventilation through airway administration, is highly tolerable and efficacious in ameliorating severe respiratory failure. Thus, by repurposing the distal gut as an accessary breathing organ, enteral ventilation therapy offers an alternative paradigm as an adjunctive means to patients who are in critical need of respiratory support.

greatgoat420··on Zstandard v1.5.0
> Single file Libs > This move reflects a commitment on our part to support this tool and this pattern of using zstd going forward.

I love that they are moving toward supporting an amalgamation build. I and many others reach for SQLite because of this feature, and I think this will really increase the adoption of Zstd.

greatgoat420··on Zstandard v1.5.0
Facebook actually does a decent amount of work on Fedora, and were even part of the force behind using btrfs as the default.
greatgoat420··on An intro to Zig's integer casting for C programmers
There was at least always the recommendation to only use the version of the Ada compiler released by the FSF as the regular GCC one is/was more encumbered.
greatgoat420··on Adding ANSI C11 C compiler to D so it can import and compile C files directly
That's great man, congratulations! People did not take my comment as the joke it was intended as.
greatgoat420··on Adding ANSI C11 C compiler to D so it can import and compile C files directly
> Hey, fellow Dlanger!

Lol, he is a paid hype man for the Dlang community, and you should ask him about Symmetry Investments and if they are hiring.

greatgoat420··on Adding ANSI C11 C compiler to D so it can import and compile C files directly
I think it is a great sign of the health of the dlang community and project that the creator of the language can submit a PR and get actual honest feedback just like any other participant.
greatgoat420··on California is not in drought
I don't live in CA, and I have no real knowledge of logging, could you explain more about the "greedy loggers" comment? I get that controlled burns are good, but is CA usually known for forests used for lumber? I thought most lumber was grown in the northern parts of America.
greatgoat420··on Anime2Sketch: A sketch extractor for illustration, anime art, manga
I was actually going to ask if someone had done a comparison with edge detection.
greatgoat420··on Writing advice should stop targeting people who hate to write
That seems like a bizarre group, may I ask how you joined them?
greatgoat420··on BleedingTooth: Linux Bluetooth Zero-Click Remote Code Execution
Thank the lord for distros like Fedora. They deal with security and other issues, and are big enough that if Intel tried to sneak something past, almost assuredly Intel's engineers working on Red Hat would have noticed something.
greatgoat420··on Freewire: An Experiment with Freely Wired Neural Networks
The story is more about how a random set of weights WILL have preconceptions of how to play. If you look at condition numbers or spectra of random normal matrices they are very much not random.
greatgoat420··on Migrate Everything from Linux to BSD
Linux is fragmented in the sense that userland is separate from the kernel.
