A stadium full of Gulen supporters cheering for Erdogan, just 4 years ago.. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_bP7r0U8mfg
Erdogan's speech; "I wish Gulen was here with us today"
Jokes aside, most of these generals were already getting arrested or getting kicked out of the military in the following weeks, they just decided to actually do the crime they are getting arrested for
The attempt was real. It was actually planned pretty well. Their plans were exposed. They panicked, couldn't really follow through with all their plans. Generals that weren't part of the coup took the chain of command pretty fast to stop the attempt.
1) Parliament building was not empty

2) Apparently there were other jets that were actually following Erdogan's plane
3) They kidnapped almost all high ranked military personnel. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=--bCuv6G5I0. The ones that escaped actually took back the chain of command and was able to stop the attempt.
4) Does anything look staged in these videos; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTEbX7kvZ6E or this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SkfIbfnZt_Y. Some of these people on the floor are 50-60 year old generals. What is their role in your scenario?
As far as I know even in the previous dotcom burst the housing market went down just a little, something around 10%. In some neighborhoods rents have been increasing more than that per year in the last 3 years. So even if there is a tech burst the size of the 2000 dotcom burst, I don't expect real estate prices to suffer that much.

How do you decide if a company is a tech company? They use computers, they must be a tech company..
I agree with you that there needs to be a University to create a tech hub, but I think that's the easiest to take care of if YC and big tech companies are behind this plan.. You can easily convince big name universities to start satellite campuses or even better you can start your own! UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay is a perfect example that you can build a world class research center if you pump enough money to it.
my 3 priorities would be;
- close to Silicon Valley and California High Speed Rail
- no one should really be living there (no status quo)
- has to be close to a body of water (better climate)
I think I found the perfect location! Link to Google Maps: http://tinyurl.com/gnzquv3
The exact point where the couple is drinking wine in the picture can be the Dolares park of the new city :)
But most of the people use a regional center [1] to park the $500k is a big real estate project like Hunter's Point Shipyard in SF or Hudson Yards in New York with no additional yearly cost.

$300k (USD) 1 bd room apartment in Yaletown, equivalent of this in SF is at least $750k. Plus property taxes in SF are around %1.15 for a $750k condo that comes down to 10k a year, just on property taxes. Not sure about the rules in Vancouver but the link I posted above claims $1,008 in property taxes. So yea I think Vancouver is affordable.
