georgehaake··on Ask HN: What do you spend your money on?
Offspring's Tuition, as I don't want them to have the screwed up college debt that the US provides...
georgehaake··on Ask HN: Which movies did you watch multiple times?
I am surprised to admit that I have watched zero dark thirty at least 5-6 times. Actually not sure why. It is good, but good enough for beyond two views?
georgehaake··on Jim Simons has died
Pretty good run for an adult life-long heavy smoker.
georgehaake··on A fourth of U.S. health visits now delivered by non-physicians
Where I work we have a physician who doesn’t see patients. He reads procedures and supervises 8 mid-levels. It’s an assembly line. There are inservices that in effect ensure maximum level of encounter complexity to maximize billing.
georgehaake··on C++Builder 11 Community Edition
Delphi 7, that was a lovely vintage...
georgehaake··on C++Builder 11 Community Edition
Historically a great tool along with Delphi, with poor subsequent management/ownership since the very early 2000's.
georgehaake··on Juan Tamariz, the godfather of close-up card magic
NY Times. I gave them money for a subscription. I'm fine with that. What I found to be just enough of a deal breaker is the ads remain as a subscriber.

georgehaake··on Mac OS Catalina: more trouble than it’s worth (Part 2)
When I upgraded my 2019 mini I thought I bricked it. It was a couple of days of heroics to get it upgraded. Kind of a blur now. With the minor annoyances, not any more shitty in aggregate than before. (current 13" macbook pro - no upgrade issues at all)
georgehaake··on Stuff I Learnt in 2019
It sounds like an "ain't" version of learned. I just read this from Grammarly:

"Learnt and learned are both used as the past participle and past tense of the verb to learn. Learned is the generally accepted spelling in the United States and Canada, while the rest of the English-speaking world seems to prefer learnt."

Apparently I'm an egocentric American.

georgehaake··on Stuff I Learnt in 2019
I hate “learnt”

georgehaake··on How Wild Was Wild Bill Hickok?
We visited Deadwood last summer. There is a private museum I can recommend. Town seems similar to my imagination with horses replaced with Harleys. Gambling is legal. I asked my wife, ‘I wonder where are the whore houses?’
georgehaake··on Show HN: Sublime Merge – A Git client from the makers of Sublime Text
Thank you for the new cool tool.

I'm hoping you could somewhat detail your custom UI toolkit used in these apps as they are consistently fast and uniform across platforms?

Southern Reach Trilogy. On the last book. All three very well written.
georgehaake··on Gruber on the Macbook Pro Keyboard
Curious to hear from anyone who has used these directly, not clamshelled for several months or more and have been keyboard issue free.

georgehaake··on The web sucks if you have a slow connection
Out in the country enough that I have 3 meg area wifi with a wife who enjoys streaming and Facebook and two boys who enjoy online gaming and streaming. Not much left for me. All you can eat at least and avoiding satellite.

Oh, we find Amazon, IMDb and Facebook are the biggest pigs on a slow connection.
