george_perez··on Apple’s “monopsony” power, and the woman who named it
They were going to open FaceTime, not iMessage.
george_perez··on Apple has locked me out of my developer account
You could, but they would probably not be able to get to the page to transfer ownership to another Apple ID because they'll probably get sent to the contact form dead-end.
george_perez··on We moved our servers to Iceland
It was added to the list. https://github.com/easylist/easylist/commit/4c107010c128e6a0...
george_perez··on Firefox Privacy How-To Guide
Modified about:config settings appear in bold, though. It's good for a quick glance, but yeah not much after that.
george_perez··on macOS Catalina
According to people in the know, the $5 a month is for Apple. Apple pays a flat-fee to the developers of games in Apple Arcade, and that's it.
george_perez··on NetNewsWire 5.0 – Open-Source RSS Reader for Mac
Reeder doesn't sync without a third-party though.
george_perez··on NetNewsWire 5.0 – Open-Source RSS Reader for Mac
Syncing will likely be limited to the third-party sync, I believe.
george_perez··on Google reveals fistful of flaws in Apple's iMessage app
It’s very specific parameters. Automatic Updates are done after they’re downloaded, and automatic downloads are rolled out around a week and a half later or around that time. https://imgur.com/a/u6Mxz4A

That was for the GPS 10-bit bug. https://www.theregister.co.uk/2019/02/12/current_gps_epoch_e...

Apple's runs out in November 2019 instead of April.

george_perez··on After Car2Go eased its background checks, 75 vehicles were stolen in one day
Using Cloudflare's 1.1.1.1 DNS? https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=19828317
george_perez··on 1Password: Standalone / Local Vault Option Gone?
That would be a good option if they supported all of their clients equally, but the developer has pretty much said that he's not going to update the extension to support Safari 13. As a Safari user, it's not a good option.
george_perez··on 1Password: Standalone / Local Vault Option Gone?
I'm using Safari exclusively, but back when I had Firefox installed, you could change the shortcut for 1Password X. Does it not accept Command + \ as a shortcut?
george_perez··on Prime Video on Chromecast and Android TV, YouTube on Fire TV
Well, that's on Spotify to do. They've been able to do it forever. Tidal has an Apple TV app.
george_perez··on Apple buys autonomous driving company Drive.ai
To be fair, Apple only just bought it a few months ago. 9 months to be exact.
george_perez··on 2015 MacBook Pro recall: batteries overheating
This is for 2015 MBPs only, so no. Apple does replace some batteries if they are well-documented to have failed because of manufacturer issues though. Also for swelling.
george_perez··on Amazon.com Credit Builder: Build credit with no annual fee
The standard store card also has this requirement. You only get 5% cash back if you have an active Prime membership.

If you let your membership run out it will only give back 3%. https://www.amazon.com/iss/credit/storecardmember?plattr=PLC...

george_perez··on macOS deprecating scripting language runtimes, including Python, Ruby, and Perl
Homebrew comes with a portable Ruby in the install script. https://twitter.com/MacHomebrew/status/1136249501252038662
george_perez··on macOS deprecating scripting language runtimes, including Python, Ruby, and Perl
They seem to package a portable ruby already. https://twitter.com/MacHomebrew/status/1136249501252038662
george_perez··on iPadOS
Files is an iOS feature. It was added in iOS 11. This new update just has new cosmetic features like the column view. I'm sure the external drive and server connections work on iOS as well.

This is because iPadOS is just a marketing name for iOS 13. iPadOS still runs the same Springboard as iOS and is referred as iOS internally.

george_perez··on iPadOS
The iPod touch launched 2 months after the original iPhone launched, and they both ran iPhone OS. Why are you so stubborn over something that can be easily searched and debunked?

iPhone OS existed until iPhone OS 3.2.2 when it was renamed to iOS in iOS 4. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IOS_version_history

george_perez··on iPadOS
It doesn't.
george_perez··on New Mac Pro
macOS Catalina (10.15) is entirely built on-top of Metal. So, yes.
george_perez··on Apple App Store Principles and Practices
Context is important here.

“84% of apps are free, and developers pay nothing to Apple.

Like any fair marketplace, developers decide what they want to charge from a set of price tiers. We only collect a commission from developers when a digital good or service is delivered through an app. Here are some of the ways developers commonly make money on the App Store.”

They’re talking about apps, and the second part of that header is referring the subject of that which is apps. They pay nothing because it’s a free app which generates no revenue to Apple (commission-wise).

george_perez··on Apple App Store Principles and Practices
They said commission. As in, they receive no commission from those apps from Apple offering support, hosting, and distribution. Which makes absolute sense because they are Reader apps and have no way to generate money inside the app to Apple (hence, no commission).

It’s $99.

george_perez··on Vignette: add photos to your contacts by searching public social media profiles
Some people have asked for LinkedIn support on Twitter but the developer has stated that he's not a fan of storing login information to download those pictures (since LinkedIn loves to put profiles behind a sign up/log in screen)
george_perez··on Vignette: add photos to your contacts by searching public social media profiles
I can almost 100% say that this is never coming to Android. Casey Liss is one of the co-hosts of Accidental Tech Podcast (ATP) and they are Apple users through and through. Marco Arment, maker of the great Overcast podcast client, is also a co-host alongside John Siracusa of Mac OS X/Ars reviews fame.

TL;DR No this is not coming to Android.

george_perez··on Apple, Qualcomm settle royalty dispute, sources say
The Qualcomm CEO was right. I can't believe it. https://www.cnet.com/news/qualcomm-and-apple-may-be-calling-...
george_perez··on Sony reveals PlayStation 5 details
Yeah, that's what The Verge is quoting from. It's in the opening sentence.
george_perez··on Notarizing Your App Before Distribution
Kernel extensions will also need to be notarized, so Hackintosh doesn't seem very likely.
george_perez··on Google Shutting Down URL Shortener (2018)
This needs a (2018) in the title.
