Mythos?
gengelbro··on Grok 4.6 scores 61 on the Artificial Analysis Intelligence Index
Wait until they find out what's in a powerplant!
gengelbro··on My phone detects going on a run as “someone snatching my phone and running off”
Ha. I was in London for work and had my phone snatched on a work trip the second day. Kings Cross area. Massive pain to get insurance to figure it out and I had to buy a burner.

Two guys hopped a wide sidewalk, never stopped and were back into traffic in an instant.

Everyone gave me the "you should't have been dressed that way" response. Police did nothing dispite certainly plenty of evidence (video, from apple, etc. etc).

gengelbro··on The letter ℘: name and origin? (2017)
There has been various modernization efforts in the past correct? I wonder why nothing has succeeded. Math has always been somehow very tied to keeping credit and personal achievement close to the "source" it feels. Conjectures always coming with names attached, or this symbol named after a whimsical stoke of a pen.
gengelbro··on SpaceX wants to go to Mars. To do so, environmentalists say it's trashing Texas
Someone compare the pollution to the average steel mill. The focus here is political and clickbait focused.
gengelbro··on GPT-4o
Possible it's in the training set then?
gengelbro··on Spirit Airlines to furlough 260 pilots, defer Airbus plane deliveries
Zero interest rate policy.
gengelbro··on A drone that calculates coordinates using a camera and Google Maps
The future of warfare does seem to be incredibly cheap autonomous (or nearly so) drones. I know Palmer Lucky's working on this, but his offering is still incredibly high priced...

Who's looking at this problem with the perspective that these should be 'ammo' and not 'aircraft'?

gengelbro··on [dead]
A bit of a stretch to say that public schools breed nonconformity?
gengelbro··on [dead]
I don't see the relevance to hackers here. This is simple political commentary and belongs on /r/politics or whatever.
gengelbro··on What to do when you’ve ruined your life
First article: "For no reason". Second article: "Mighta been the drugs."
gengelbro··on Twitter board adopts poison pill after Musk’s $43B bid to buy company
And this course of events is certain why? Because you've stated so?
gengelbro··on Names of Canada truck convoy donors leaked after reported hack
How about citizens of Seattle when the CHAZ was operating? Were they majority for that?
gengelbro··on Over 20k servers have their iLO interfaces exposed to the internet
I've had the bad fortune of dealing with iLO in the past. There's absolutely nothing surprising to me that it would be remotely exploitable, as well as default remote accessible.
gengelbro··on YouTube banned most videos from “JCS – Criminal Psychology”
Explain please?
gengelbro··on Lufthansa confirmed that 18k flights had been flown empty to keep slots
Surely they flew cargo? This seems absent in the article.
gengelbro··on No Way to Grow Up
I wonder how we'll look back at this in 10 years.
gengelbro··on “New York Times”: Exorcism in Lieu of Enlightenment (2020)
If one believes as you do that they are "nutjob senators", it should be all the more important that you're appraised as to their thinking and thought process no?

Why would you choose selective ignorance to those which wield power?

gengelbro··on “New York Times”: Exorcism in Lieu of Enlightenment (2020)
I think the sophisticated reader (NYTs being the 'paper of record' and all), should be able to be exposed to commonly held opinions of their political enemies, even if the rhetoric or 'factual basis' they might hold in disrepute.

The fact is the NYT can't even put the words of a sitting US Senator on their pages, with no implicit _agreement_ of its factual value, and instead decapitates their own for it, shows crippling ideological constraint.

gengelbro··on Lead poisoning among US children
This implies the _vast majority_ is precisely the opposite. With ~75% being personal use.
gengelbro··on Antarctica's 'Doomsday Glacier' could meet its doom within 3 years
OK, then what do you call something astronomically worse than this, say a mile wide astroid strike?

You see that you have no more granularity? That you can't describe it as worse than a meter of sea level rise?

gengelbro··on Antarctica's 'Doomsday Glacier' could meet its doom within 3 years
"Doomsday Glacier".

At some point we'll run out of hyperbole right? What could be worse than doomsday? Perhaps, apocalypse? Maybe cataclysm?

gengelbro··on Lead poisoning among US children
> The vast majority is flight training

Can you substantiate that claim for me? I've never seen a breakdown, since you've claimed 'vast majority' perhaps you know better.

gengelbro··on Lead poisoning among US children
A huge amount of this, "spraying lead on your head" is not for training or any similar purpose, but for amusement.
gengelbro··on Lead poisoning among US children
This might be my hobby horse, and I've commented to this effect a few times in the past, but here goes:

Hobby aviation still uses leaded fuel and this is detectable near regional airports. The primary reason for this that the vast majority of the existing fleet is stuck in the 1970s essentially as new airframes and engine designs are expensive and viewed as risky.

gengelbro··on Definition of 'fully vaccinated' could change, CDC chief says
Ah! I see then we agree.
gengelbro··on Definition of 'fully vaccinated' could change, CDC chief says
I don't mean to be callous but I'm not sure I'm drawing a direct line here? How does my comment imply I want some interruption in your wife's insulin supply?
gengelbro··on Definition of 'fully vaccinated' could change, CDC chief says
Pseudo is doing a lot of work in your reply, as there as always been a very easy exemptions, religious or otherwise. The recent movement has been too close those exemptions (see maine & the supreme court), and so now this resembles force more than procedural hoops.
gengelbro··on Definition of 'fully vaccinated' could change, CDC chief says
I'm generally on board with vaccines, and am myself currently fully vaccinated, however, this has just become a condition of my employment at _a very large tech company_. So the possibility that this definition is completely negotiable and shifting like the sands makes me uncomfortable.
