galleywest200··on Writing by hand is good for your brain
Luckily when I was studying for my Organic Chemistry degree it was just pictures and arrows and not a lot of anything else!
galleywest200··on So Reddit has decided that plain HTML is unsafe
I don't buy the “scraping” protection when appending .json to any reddit URL still gives you the data.

galleywest200··on $100 AI Music Video: Claude Fable 5 vs. GPT-5.6 Sol
At least non-AI slop had a human behind it.
galleywest200··on Sony Deletes a Bunch More Movies from the Accounts of People Who 'Bought' Them
How does that work if my player is offline? A dedicated BluRay player has no reason to connect to the internet.

Sony released the PS5 Slim earlier this cycle.

galleywest200··on Voxatron
I recommend the Picotron, their newest fantasy software. It is a full fantasy workstation. It has no upper limit on game size and can export native binaries for the big three OSes. You could, in theory, publish a full game with it.

galleywest200··on The great digital fatigue: How digital burnout is changing social media use
An additional suggestion would be to use uBlock Origin on a deskop/laptop and add the sites to the block list, which is what I did.
galleywest200··on I Learned to Read Again
Even when at home I try to keep my phone in my nightstand drawer. Sure I can go grab it, but that bookshelf is a lot closer to my lounge areas.
galleywest200··on Rewriting Bun in Rust
If you already employed the engineers the extra cost would have been $0.
galleywest200··on PlayStation can delete all your digital games after 3 years of inactivity (EU)
> I am still incredibly salty about losing my “lifetime” license to Minecraft.

I kept my Minecraft license after migrating to a Microsoft account. Unsure how it got messed up for you.

galleywest200··on Resetting Xbox
This reads as someone who only looks at AAA major titles. The smaller games are the better ones in my opinion.

Nintendo games generally do not require maintenance or infrastructure. The vast majority of indie games do not require maintenance or infrastructure.

galleywest200··on Fines doubled as teens outsmart Australia's world-first social media ban
> because people who can afford helmets generally choose to wear

A helmet is much cheaper than the bicycle is it not? If you can afford the bike you can probably get the helmet.

galleywest200··on Completing a computer science degree on Coursera
A bachelors degree is way different than a program certificate.

Unless it is the ones in Atlanta because I believe Shaq owns those.

“They say coke kills but they don’t know when” is a refrain I have heard.
galleywest200··on California bans 'sell by' labels, hoping to cut food waste
> * Just look at the actual checkout price like everyone else

Why should I have to go through the entire process just to see the price? Have you ever been in a store that has the tax added onto the price tag? It is very nice to not have to do mental math.

galleywest200··on What does privatization of the US Postal Service mean?
USPS does last mile delivery for a lot of rural places.

Besides that junk mail might actually increase if a private company was paid to take it to your house since they would have a profit motive - more junk mail delivered means more profits.

galleywest200··on Rage of the Falling Elite: How downward mobility fuels radical politics
> This helps to explain why modern movements like Occupy Wall Street were filled not with the destitute but with college-educated professionals. These were not people starving; they were aggrieved that they were in the 90th percentile rather than the 99th

People who are starving must work. The elite class wants to keep your healthcare tied to employment for a reason - to keep you from speaking up for yourself because you are scared.

It is absolutely reasonable for people who have means to assist those who do not. In fact, one could argue that those with means should speak up for those who do not as a moral imperative.

He was one of my first concerts. I saw him at the Puyallup Fair in Washington State.
galleywest200··on Weird Al Yankovic Pulled Out of AI Ad Deal: 'I Can't Be the Poster Boy for AI'
Nah, he turned down alcohol ads in the past too. Id rather he retain his legitimacy and morals.
galleywest200··on Companies Are Throttling Employees' AI Use Because It's Too Expensive
My company was trying to get people to use AI, we had whole meetings about it. Flash forward a few months and they sent out an email saying they discontinued the Enterprise ChatGPT accounts of anybody not using it often enough as a way to save money.

The sheer number of people who would have nothing left to lose would probably fight back, literally, at that point.
galleywest200··on Michigan bill would bar employers from requiring after-hours coms with workers
Citizens are not employees of politicians. Only the politician’s staffers are.

Arguably the politician works for us so we can decide their working hours.

galleywest200··on The case for physical media ownership
Steam's DRM is entirely optional. It is up to the game publishers to use it.
galleywest200··on The case for physical media ownership
