ferminaut··on Untraceable 3D-printed guns on the rise in Canada
> Domestic or hobbyist 3d printing is not going to produce a particularly strong gun, it's most likely going to only work once or twice before it blows itself apart. There is a good chance the person using it will significantly hurt themselves.

While this is true for 100% printed guns, most fosscad folks will have core components that are metal. Barrels, firing pins, etc will be metal in most designs.

Some folks claim their guns can shoot thousands of rounds with no issue.

> They will have very poor accuracy, it won't be possible to rifle the barrel on a 3d printed gun in a way that will spin the projectile.

Folks literally etch their gun barrels with the same specs as commercially available barrels. Here is one such example from the /r/fosscad community: https://www.reddit.com/gallery/106u7au

While the fear is mostly media driven, the stuff folks are making now is a little alarming. Claymores, grenade launchers, etc. If you are interested in learning about this community, check out /r/fosscad on reddit.

ferminaut··on Binance caught commingling funds between US and international exchanges
> TX made no distinctions, neither by contract nor by country of origin.

Apparently there was special rules for Japan. The regulations were a result of Mt Gox failing. Basically you cant comingle funds and the accounts need to be linked to a trusted third party.

ferminaut··on Tell HN: Doing a chargeback against Google will get your account banned
This served as a wake up call more than anything to break my reliance on google. I wont be cancelling the chargeback.
ferminaut··on Tell HN: Doing a chargeback against Google will get your account banned
Working on this now. Seems my domains are still `locked` (Registry status: Client transfer prohibited), hopefully in the next few hours I can transfer them...but I see some complaints about transferring out of google domains.
ferminaut··on Tell HN: Doing a chargeback against Google will get your account banned
Thanks for the recommendation. I managed to get fastmail up and running on my domain in like 10 minutes. It's now importing 781000 emails :)

I placed an order for a Pixel Watch on Black Friday as a gift. Spent $380 or so on the watch+band. Site said it would be delivered on Nov 29-Dec 2nd (and status was updated to 'Pending Shipment'). Well, Dec 5th rolled around, still wasnt shipped. Since the status was 'pending shipment' you cannot cancel the order.

I contacted google asking them to cancel my order. Two weeks later, it's still not shipped, CS rep is basically useless ("we are investigating! Thanks for your patience! :)").

Did a chargeback yesterday. Now I am running Google Takeout. Trying to figure out what happens to the domains & google fi service when my account is banned.

I am now realizing I am banking too much of my life on a company that offers 0 customer service.

On the off chance someone from Google sees this, Case is 8-4940000033434.

Is apple any better?

Who can I transfer my google domains to?

Who can I transfer my google workspaces to?

ferminaut··on Ledger Stax – Hardware wallet with eInk display for digital assets
I bought a wallet from Ledger once. Ledger then got hacked & now I get texts weekly with different crypto scams targeted at me. Never again.
ferminaut··on FX swap debt a $80T 'blind spot', global regulator says
Small nit...There has been interruptions to block generation.

In 2010 for 8hours 27 min

In 2013 for 6hours 20 min

But yes, almost 9 years without issue! Pretty impressive uptime regardless.

ferminaut··on Google is shutting down Stadia
Google kind of reminds me of IBM in the early 90s before Lou Gerstner. IBM built segments of its business around the fact mainframe money would keep pouring in.
ferminaut··on RootMyTV is a user-friendly exploit for rooting/jailbreaking LG webOS smart TVs
I can see manufacturers embedding a LTE radio/lorawan/whatever into the devices. Not connecting the device to the internet wont be an option in the future for most consumers.

I give it 15 years or so for the tech to mature.

ferminaut··on Setting up a Pi Hole made my home network faster
I know some folks are anti Ubiquiti Unifi on here, but you can run pihole (along with a bunch of other stuff) right on a UDM/UDM-Pro. IMO it makes the most sense to run this on the router, and you can run it in a docker container. If you're looking for a fun hour or two project, check out:

ferminaut··on New Chinese GPU Maker Moore Threads Unveils the MTT S60 GPU
there is no price, there is no power usage, the rated fp32 is roughly on par with a video card that is 6 years old now.

unless it's crazy efficient (at 12nm I doubt it), I wouldnt say it's competing with the giants.

ferminaut··on Adobe tricks users into a 12 month contract
I got a X1 credit card a little bit ago. You can have unlimited "virtual" credit cards, trial subscription cards, and one time use cards.

I now use it for everything, with a different "virtual" card for every business. I wish more credit cards offered this.

ferminaut··on Why zoom doesn't allow me to remove my credit card and PayPal?
Adobe is the same way. You can add new credit cards but you need to contact them to remove them.
