fbu··on Please help us to take a survey, Thanks
enterprenuer - 14 times the same mistake, you might want to fix that.
fbu··on Steve Jobs Says, "Fuck You Ruby Fanbois"
People should program in C because it is more difficult ? Then people should use punching card for the same reason.

People should program in C because some people programing in ruby are morons ? Great argument ...

I really don't see any valid argument why knowing C is such an enlightening experience (I would argue it is not).

fbu··on XKCD "Hell" implemented in flash
It only take 48 hours to hack some flash together, might take longer for a liquid fluoride reactor...
fbu··on Ask HN: From what countries do people use HN beside USA?
Here too !
fbu··on Quake 2 ported to HTML5
I so wish this was true, wouldn't that be an epic step in the web?
fbu··on Man arrested at Large Hadron Collider claims he's from the future
I felt for it until I did a google search to see: one single news item.

Maybe that kind of reflex will be useful when some botnet makes an attack on the nytimes or the wsj.

(who knows, to mess with the stock exchanges or something, just throwing ideas here)

fbu··on More Droids Sold In First 74 Days Than iPhones – Nexus One Sales Very Slow
Maybe the keyboard isn't dead yet ...
fbu··on The Largest Infrastructure Project in History: Chinese High-Speed Rail to Europe
It's like saying there are roads everywhere around the globe, but not super highways, because it's a huge investment. Therefore you need to be confident it's gonna be used for a long time.
fbu··on The Largest Infrastructure Project in History: Chinese High-Speed Rail to Europe
Any map so far ? They have to go through Iran, Russia or a myriad of ex-ussr countries, I can't see how that's gonna work out ...
fbu··on Jon Stewart: ChatRoulette
Available in Belgium. Where are you ?
fbu··on RepRap: the self-replicating 3D printer
Guideline: "On-Topic: Anything that good hackers would find interesting."

Maybe it's too darn interesting so when people stumble on it they post it. I think the reprap is genuinely interesting and there's nothing you can do about that.

fbu··on The Awful Anti-Pirate System That Will Probably Work
Does anybody have any idea how long it took for pirate WOW servers to be running ?

IMO, most game will go towards becoming MMOG or be played online anyway, people will just get craftier at having pirate servers running.

fbu··on Big Change in the Tech World
I got a 404.
fbu··on 1 million fps Slow Motion video of bullet impacts
Ever heard of the Deborah Number ? The name comes frome the bible :

"The mountains flowed before the Lord" in a song by prophetess Deborah recorded in the Bible (Judges 5:5)

It's actually used in rheology to describe if a materials acts more like a liquid or a solid. Even mountains acts like liquid at a big enough time scale :)

fbu··on [dead]
I wondered if the future self-aware google will laugh at that before updating it. If not I'm afraid all the efforts of Larry and Sergei would have been worthless, no humor in an AI, what a loss ...
fbu··on 20 Percent Of TechCrunch Readers Are Already Browsing With Chrome
For the few times I have Chrome crashing, it is due to Flash... But even then, Chrome handles the thing very nicely and either the plugin is stopped, or ony one tab is broken. The rest of it being still available. Amazing !
fbu··on [dead]
"Geeks are good at the things they try." Therefore if geeks try sex they will become good at it ?

I wish they were no flaw in that argument :)

And, oh btw, agreed 100%!

fbu··on No One Knows What the F*** They're Doing (or "The 3 Types of Knowledge")
You're entitled to your own opinion, not to your own facts. (Some TED speaker)
fbu··on No One Knows What the F*** They're Doing (or "The 3 Types of Knowledge")
This happens to me quite often but if I think a bit about it, I'm not 100% sure either why they're completely wrong.

If you want to get into the conversation (not recommended as it gets ugly quite often when people are completely sure of something * caugh...republicans... caugh*) it's actually better to argue on why they're wrong to be COMPLETELY sure rather than argue the opposite point you might think is right.

They will have far less argument to explain why their point is completely right than to show that yours isn't right either.

fbu··on Interview with a Nigerian Internet Scammer
"We had something called the recovery approach. A few months after the original scam, we would approach the victim again, this time pretending to be from the FBI, or the Nigerian Authorities."

I laughed, am I a bad person ?

fbu··on Report Warns Silicon Valley Could Lose Its Edge
As PG said in his interview on Mixergy, it's not so much about the amount of funding, but the community, for mentoring, advices etc.

It's not obvious that route 128 was left in the dust of silicon valley because of less funding rather than the ecosystem of founders/angels/VC.

Also Richard Florida discusses the fact that CMU has a lot of R&D and VC but no big tech companies because these are moving where the best people are for engineering but also design, marketing, sales. One could argue that design marketing and sales are more important than technology in the web industry.

fbu··on Paul Graham's Mixergy interview - How YC helped 172 startups take off
Thanks for the english, always good to know
fbu··on Paul Graham's Mixergy interview - How YC helped 172 startups take off
That's a terrific interview, but now I'd want an interview of Jessica Livingstone as she appears to have the nag to spot what makes great founders.
fbu··on Tell HN: PG is speaking at Twiistup in LA
Eric Ries and Dave McClure will be speaking too. Any ideas if they live stream the keynotes ?
fbu··on Lisp Deserves a Fresh Look (2006)
"Martian question 3: Arent your machines getting faster much more quickly than your programmers are getting smarter?"

I found this to be a nice quote for high level programming.
