fbu··on From Pentagons to Pentagrams
The Great Dodecahedron is my favorite polyhedron, and it's possible to build one out of paper. Give it a try when you get a chance !

fbu··on Datacenters in space aren't going to work
Maybe if you build the datacenter inside an asteroid, and use the whole surface as an infrared radiator.
fbu··on Datacenters in space aren't going to work
The thermal budget is impossible to escape. Maybe in an asteroid it could be possible, the whole surface becomes a thermal radiator and the whole asteroid a thermal mass. But still no convection.
fbu··on Datacenters in space aren't going to work
What's your counter argument for the thermal budget problem ?

Dissipating heat into outer space is extremely difficult, you can't escape thermodynamics.

fbu··on Myanmar military shuts down a major cybercrime center, detains over 2k people
Maybe some governments are sponsoring these activities near the border of a political rival. Like they did during the golden triangle era...
fbu··on How the Slavic migration reshaped Central and Eastern Europe
Grok could say anything. Isn't there a rule yet on just blatantly copy/pasting AI answers ?
fbu··on How the Slavic migration reshaped Central and Eastern Europe
More than Germanic ?
fbu··on Which email clients work well with keyboard shortcuts?
Sorry to be that guy. But Emacs ? Free forever and great at keyboard shortcuts.

Probably still needs a good text editor though.

fbu··on Otto Hahn
I meant compared to the glory that the theoretical physicists get. I can't find any general public / mainstream work that even mention him as a crucial scientist in the development of the nuclear industry.
fbu··on Otto Hahn
Just curious if anyone has heard of Otto Hahn? Unsung genius of quantum research born on the losing side of multiple wars.
fbu··on C-based Virtual Machine for Notch's DCPU-16
Awesome man! You solved quite a few problems I had working on mine. (Not sure I understand everything though)

I checked your code, fixed a few things. It now works for: 7c01 0030 7de1 1000 0020 7803 1000 https://github.com/fbulens/dcpu16-js

I'll continue tomorrow (Europe here).

fbu··on First Galileo satellites will be launched today
Actually, two satellites have already been launched: GIOVE-A and GIOVE-B [1].

And now, things should go pretty quickly, we probalby are 2-3 years away from having a decent fleet flying. Although I can't find a source for it now that I need it...

fbu··on ASCII Pronunciation Rules for Programmers [2008]
As a French speaker it make total sense to me; it just describes it.

I just searched quickly how to explain that the semi-colon is somehow half a colon. I couldn't find anything.

fbu··on My first six months of programming: from man-rodent to partyman
Isn't there a huge memory leak? Creating a new pointer on each iteration without keeping track of them.

I might be wrong I've been doing games in CL for some time now.

fbu··on Knuth's 'Earthshaking Announcement' due tomorrow
Maybe the numbering of TeX will now go up to 6 and something...
fbu··on Knuth's 'Earthshaking Announcement' due tomorrow
Back when it was first announced, everybody made jokes about the new TeX policy and every document made using TeX will have to be reviewed before publishing :)
fbu··on Try Erlang, a hands-on tutorial

fbu··on Try Erlang, a hands-on tutorial

fbu··on SpaceX Falcon 9 reaches orbit
He actually is broke, liquidity issues as I understand it. http://www.laobserved.com/biz/2010/06/elon_musk_is_broke.php
fbu··on [dead]
There still is a significant chance this is not what he meant.
fbu··on (e^(i * pi)) + 1 = 0
e^ix = cos x + i sin x

It really has nothing to do with the value of i, it's just a convention. It really just says that cos pi = -1 which is nice but that's it.

fbu··on Vmforce is coming... but what is it?
A virtual machine working only on html 5 ?
fbu··on Google Said to Be in Talks to Acquire Travel Software Maker ITA

fbu··on Best Young Tech Entrepreneurs 2010: The Finalists
In the way they present the entrepreneurs and their company, funding is put up front as it was a measure of success. And I think many people would agree that it is a terrible way to measure the success of a company.
fbu··on Hitler “Downfall Meme” gets taken down
20 April 1889

Well done, Sir !

fbu··on What's special about this number? (0-9999)

fbu··on Paint Roulette demonstrating HTML5 Canvas and WebSockets

fbu··on Saying Goodbye to Apple
Has the website been "Hacker News'ed" ? Are we driving this much traffic ?
