fallinditch··on The problem is not AI code, but not knowing about system architecture or intent
> Nobody in this ecosystem, I thought, is actually in control here.

Profound, your comment provoked this thought: we know that AI in organizations is disruptive, but we still don’t understand some of the shifting patterns of power, communications, agency, etc.

If AI is not well-suited for traditional models of stratified management then maybe we need different models of bureaucracy?

Agreed. Cloudlflare appear to be innovating really well.

Are you thinking of Nash? a standalone editable note as HTML that was featured on HN some time ago. https://keepworking.github.io/nash/
fallinditch··on Show HN: Capsule – Single-file web apps that save their data into SQLite
Sharing HTML files with embedded Javascript is problematic: iOS users can't open the files directly, and have to save the file and then 'open with ... '.
fallinditch··on Pion, an agent designed to run any company autonomously
Great point, the shit is going to get more pervasive for sure.

But also, there is the enablement of new fields of original and creative endeavor: I think we can already see this in some of the brilliant and useful apps being made, often by solo 'teams'.

I don't want to play down the harmful effects AI, but the flip side is that the opportunities for original ideas are many and varied.

fallinditch··on Hermes Kanban – Multi-Agent Profile Collaboration
Are you using the Hermes Kanban? What is your experience with it like? Good/ bad impressions?
fallinditch··on Ask HN: How do you manage skills files?
I read somewhere that Boris (created Claude Code) recommends deleting skills, and hooks every so often and then observe how the LLM performs without them.

Maybe better to periodically prune: tweak some skills, shorten some, delete some.

fallinditch··on BBC destined to shrink at 'accelerating rate'
I took part in an OFCOM (govt. Office of Communications) consultation on the future of UK public sector broadcasting in 2003-4, shortly before Youtube was born.

My suggestion was for the BBC to expand their definition of 'public sector broadcasting' to include facilitating the means of video distribution for communities ... kinda like Youtube in fact. The idea didn't resonate and was not mentioned in the report.

Around that time I also attended a meeting with some BBC bods, we were trying to promote Guerilla TV, a truly innovative and grass roots network that placed media servers and access points at strategic network nodes like universities (broadband was very sparse in those days). Nothing happened, opportunity missed.

To be fair, the BBC did accomplish some good stuff in those times too, notably Ashley Highfield and his team working on iPlayer, etc. But I've always thought the BBC made a strategic blunder by not doing more to enable grass roots content.

fallinditch··on Tim Curry has died
Yes, his immense sexuality was an experience to behold, as he strutted in his leather jock strap, fishnets and high heels.
fallinditch··on Tim Curry has died
When I was a teenager my aunt got me and my brother some tickets to see The Rocky Horror Picture Show - the original west end theater production: "you must see this". We had front row seats for a weekday matinee performance, Tim Curry was in the middle of a long run as Dr Frank-N-Furter - and boy, he blew our little socks off. I have never been present at such powerful stage magnetism before or since. The film version sorta captured it somewhat, but in the flesh he was unbelievable, powerful and ... divine.
fallinditch··on New Mac Studio with M5 Max and M5 Ultra
Yes, this is my approach now: a home server with devices connected via Tailscale. I'm starting to do more from my phone and less on the laptop.

I haven't added my iPad to the Tailnet yet but i reckon that it could become a very comfortable and productive device for me.

fallinditch··on I'm becoming AI-blind
There is another aspect to this that I find even worse than LLM writing style: badly-human-written documents and posts.

You know this: you read something and it's like 'here's a mass of poorly structured text, it's not clear what the points are, it reads ugly, I have to read to the end to discover that there are no points! Or if there are points i now have to reread it. What a lot of effort.'

LLMs have annoying grammatical tics and can have other problems too, like the author says, but sometimes they can help to take bad writing and make it clear and more digestible.

fallinditch··on Show HN: OzBrain, a shared brain for knowledge between agents and your team
I use the LLM-wiki pattern for a structured directory of topic folders of .md files, and made it also compatible with the Open Knowledge Format [1].

My agent (Hermes) responds to a made-up command "vaultize this doc/link/text, etc" to add new .md files in the right format in the right place. The agent does a pretty good job of maintaining the index.md file, cross-links, etc.

A Quartz website builder creates a static site on my server, each MD file is a web page, and rebuilds when a new file is added [2]. This setup gives me a useful knowledge base with a great UX - across all the devices on my Tailnet, no need to run Obsidian Sync, or Syncthing.

This system is simple and works well, but i think it could maybe benefit from a memory system like Honcho to make it more effective as it scales.

I think i experienced the same thing: there appeared to be no logical next step and it was necessary to make a best guess. I probably just didn't see the next step, but I thought it's ok if you have to occasionally guess. Anyway, great game! Congrats, very entertaining, I reckon you have a good chance of going viral.
fallinditch··on $100 AI Music Video: Claude Fable 5 vs. GPT-5.6 Sol
My first thought was "we'll be seeing a lot more of this sort of thing, we're so fucked" but then found myself being quite amused by the AI-glitching mistakes in the GPT 5.6 $25 effort: lean into the strange glitching and I won't be too upset.

Widget Workshop (1996) was my favorite: with a large selection of widgets (such as logic gates, switches, displays, number generators, sound and graphics modules) you build 'functional cause and effect pipelines' in a a cute drag and drop canvas. There is a puzzle mode too. Very Rube Goldberg. Great fun, and educational!

This ties in with something else on HN recently - the end of long wave radio in the UK.

Test Match Special was broadcast on the BBC's long wave frequency and for many people in Britain it was a quintessential summer listening experience: all day for up to 5 days per test match.

Such long time stretches of continuous broadcasting meant that the commentators were adept at talking, stories, banter and general chatter, occasional bollocks.

For me the Test Match Special broadcasts became like a pleasant ambient background noise to long summer days, with occasional excitement and humor - like the time Brian Johnston and Jonathan Agnew fell into uncontrollable laughter at a double entendre, a priceless piece of cricket history: https://youtu.be/KsVTpX7LdZQ

It would be nice if users could generate their own venues, maybe also use AI to convert text descriptions into venues, live events, (sponsored venues/events?), regular 'festivals' where the whole world changes: forest, desert, beach, etc
