I - a non technical ignoramus who can't code - made a "universal retro game console" on it on a Friday night:
https://twitter.com/fabianstelzer/status/1723297340306469371
In order to play, you first prompt up a generative game cartridge on glif.app (FD: I'm a co-founder): https://glif.app/@fab1an/glifs/clotu9ul2002vl90fh6cmpjw0
Like, "tokyo dogsitter simulator". Glif will generate the "cartridge" - an image - that you paste into the GPT to play: https://chat.openai.com/g/g-3p94K4Djb-console-gpt
(you can also browse thousands of games that users have already made and play any of them in the GPT!)
That said, once you get into the step function changes, the GPT-wrapper accusation might quickly become akin to a "AWS-wrapper" one, with traditional moats getting more important than AI-native ones.
We've had internet-enabled businesses without technical moats (but very real other moats, be it UX, social platform effects or a great b2b sales process) for the longest time, and might just see the same thing play out in AI native land
"Critics claim that models such as Stable Diffusion act like modern collage tools, recreating copyrighted and sensitive material.
Yet, our new paper shows that this behaviour is exceedingly rare, recreating copies in less than 0,00006% of 175M test cases."
Curious how you cloned the voices - tortoise? I've previously tried Herzog, but couldn't quite train the German accent...
I feel the advent of GPT-3 / Codex and the power that comes with it has been surprisingly underestimated - maybe because the folks who would benefit most from it (people who don't write code, like myself) haven't really caught up with it, while the ones using it (mostly people who do write code) maybe don't see the immediate benefits as much (and maybe are a little bit concerned about what this will mean to their economic position in all this...?)
I've played around a ton with simple GPT-3 code over the last few weeks and am in total awe of the possibilities this opens up to folks like me (who don't write code)
E.g. I had GPT-3 write me app script integrations of itself (!) and stablediffusino into a Google Sheet, allowing me to build a massive sandbox playground for various prototyping experiments.
Here's a thread on that process if you're curious: https://twitter.com/fabianstelzer/status/1577416649514295297
The ultimate question for crypto as a whole is whether the mass market wants digital possession that transcends a single centrally managed database. Personally am convinced we'll get there, but the onboarding mustn't happen through speculation, but specific unique utility, mostly interoperability/composability.
That said, SALT will be 100% open to anyone, regardless of whether they’re using crypto or not
The possibilities for non-skeuomorphic media format is pretty insane, especially once we get into animation territory.
I've been using Midjourney and SD to create a sci-fi filmverse called SALT, here's some details about how I put together, including all available "episodes": https://twitter.com/fabianstelzer/status/1565085199322456069
What we're seeing now are toy-era seeds for what's possible - e.g. I've been making a completely Midjourney-generated "interactive" film called SALT: https://twitter.com/SALT_VERSE/status/1536799731774537733
That would have been completely impossible just a few months ago. Incredibly exciting to think what we'll be able to do just one year from now..
As a middle-aged dude, I find them quite awkward to navigate and much prefer a car, and I have literally never seen an older person use them. Are people commuting with those? I guess it happens occassionally, but the predominant use case, at least in Germany, seems just-for-fun cruising. Probably not a powerful or frequent enough thing to justify lofty valuations, and given the externalities (cluttering sidewalks, or folks having to fish them out of lakes and rivers) probably a net negative for society, too.
Wouldn't like to see them banned out of principle, but I assume it'd make sense for cities to ask providers for some upfront deposit in case the provider can't ensure proper clean up etc...
(obviously ignoring the potential to conjure things you cannot photograph...)
Just generating images is barely doing the tools justice though - you can create entire mini movies with it, like SALT (a 70s sci-fi adventure happening on Twitter): https://twitter.com/SALT_VERSE/status/1536799731774537733
DALL-E's inpainting feature is incredibly powerful to generate very large scenes: https://twitter.com/fabianstelzer/status/1545752145273802752
Hard to believe that we're only beginning to scratch the surface here...
The occassional existential reminder that it's Very Bad to be so dependent on a single platform....when Twitter goes down, my first instinct is to frantically search Twitter for information on the outage, putting me briefly into an unfun recursive loop.
If you just want to learn monophonic synthesis with an amazing sounding synth, geta Moog Grandmother for around 1k. You can buy used and sell used, too.
But the by far best thing is to REALLY enjoy a nice lunch when you've been actually hungry before. Turns out I had completely forgotten what hunger feels like before doing IF, and it's actually a pleasurable feeling when you know you're about to break your fast with a great meal.
Before IF, I would often have lunch "because it is lunch time" and didn't particularly enjoy the food. Very different when you haven't eaten for 16 hours.
