eudhxhdhsb32··on Quad9 – A public and free DNS service for a better security and privacy
That makes sense. Do you know the reason for Firefox being more sensitive? Is their DNS prefetching not as effective?
eudhxhdhsb32··on Quad9 – A public and free DNS service for a better security and privacy
Are you just referring to ads not being blocked?

A regular dns like quad9 + ublock origin on Firefox has been a consistently great experience for me.

eudhxhdhsb32··on I fear for the unauthenticated web
If you don't want others to use your data, perhaps you should have kept it private?
eudhxhdhsb32··on I fear for the unauthenticated web
What do you mean by weights?

I'd certainly trust their predictions more than those given by most "experts".

eudhxhdhsb32··on I fear for the unauthenticated web
Participants in prediction market do not need to be experts for their collective input to be informative.

There's a long history of economic research on the "wisdom of crowds" that backs up their value.

eudhxhdhsb32··on The Last Drops of Mexico City
It's annoying to read on my phone. Text and pictures are moving at different speeds than I'm scrolling.
eudhxhdhsb32··on A look at Firefox forks
It uses UTC, as everyone should.
eudhxhdhsb32··on A look at Firefox forks
> Gnu IceCat, the ONLY firefox fork with no telemetry.

Why would you think that? Plenty of other forks like LibreWolf and IronFox have removed all telemetry.

eudhxhdhsb32··on Fitness Trackers Are Only 67% Accurate, New Research Finds
FYI, precision is an entirely unrelated to accuracy, whether consistent or not.

Precision is basically just how many decimals your measurements have.

eudhxhdhsb32··on The top 10% owns 87% of the stocks
That seems pretty reasonable to me. The vast majority of innovations that have consistently raised everyone's standard of living over the last centuries has also come from that 10%.

With every year that passes, I am more sympathetic to Kaczynski's manifesto.
eudhxhdhsb32··on Mexico issues legal threat to Google
I'd say "Gulf of North America" is ideal.

"Americas" implies South America, which doesn't make sense. And only "America" ties it too closely to the US.

Of course the whole thing is silly and "Gulf of Mexico" was perfectly fine. And I say that as someone who supports 50% of what Trump is doing.

eudhxhdhsb32··on Man from uncontacted tribe emerges in Amazon, villagers demonstrate a lighter
> If you're ok with a lifestyle on the level that they get (with hard, dangerous work), you can have it quite easily in today's society.

There are very few places left in the world where that is true.

Governments basically all hate stateless people. There's been a long history of forcing "civilization" on stateless people "for their own good", but really it's because they can't be easily controlled or taxed.

eudhxhdhsb32··on Man from uncontacted tribe emerges in Amazon, villagers demonstrate a lighter
An easier life isn't always a better life, at least for some like the Amish.
eudhxhdhsb32··on Sri Lanka scrambles to restore power after monkey causes islandwide outage
> they talk about how much the tuktuk drivers hassle any white person trying to walk around.

That wasn't my experience when I traveled there 3 years ago, and I walked around quite a bit.

My biggest complaint was the lack of good local restaurants, even in big cities. The juice bars were pretty great though. Still miss wood apple.

Another issue was the insanely reckless driving and incessant honking. Even with the plentiful metal bars and hand straps, trying to stand on a crowded bus while they fly around mountain curves is a total body workout.

eudhxhdhsb32··on Airbnb CEO says it's still too early for AI trip planning
Wouldn't it be easier to just interact directly with their web interface through an automated browser?
eudhxhdhsb32··on Privacy Pass Authentication for Kagi Search
Where do you live and how much lower do you expect them to go?

Starting at $5 a month seems very reasonable to me for a non-essential premium search experience.

eudhxhdhsb32··on Privacy Pass Authentication for Kagi Search
This is exactly what I've been waiting for to try Kagi.

I want better search results and willing to pay for it, but not at the cost of linking all my searches to my identity.

Also happy to see they're adding tor support.

I feel like I might hit the default limit of 2000 searches per month, but it's not far off.

eudhxhdhsb32··on What about K?
That's actually not true at all. No one who cares about nanoseconds is using kdb+ for a production trading system.

It's primarily used for trading research and surveillance, not live trading. And I've never heard of anyone running it without an OS.

eudhxhdhsb32··on U.K. orders Apple to let it spy on users’ encrypted accounts
Why can't they both be bad?
eudhxhdhsb32··on What really happens inside a dating app
Yes, I just enjoy meeting new people, not looking for anything longterm other than maybe friends.
eudhxhdhsb32··on MTR: 'traceroute' and 'ping' in a single tool
Mtr is indeed nice.

One thing I've not understood is why will some hops have consistently lower ping times than hops farther down the chain in the same trace?

Is it indicating that the router is faster at forwarding packets than responding to ping requests?

eudhxhdhsb32··on What really happens inside a dating app
Your complaints are highly exaggerated.

Anecdotal, but more than enough data to disprove your point, over the last 8 years I've used multiple dating apps, never paid a dime, and have been on somewhere around 400 first dates.

I'd also add that my match rate with bots or scammers is very low, certainly under 10%.

eudhxhdhsb32··on I bought a container full of Chinese electric excavators. Here's what showed up
Well it suggests the main topic will be discussion of what he received and that it may not have been as expected.

Without that, maybe the topic is about something like the customs and payment process.

eudhxhdhsb32··on Everyone knows your location: tracking myself down through in-app ads
GrapheneOS has that. It asks every time you install a new app whether it should have network permissions.
eudhxhdhsb32··on Microplastics block blood flow in the brain, mouse study reveals

Just curious why that is? I was going to buy one for my new house and they seem pretty practical, at least for drinking water at home.
