erik_landerholm··on Launch HN: Release (YC W20) – Orchestrate AI Infrastructure and Applications
Thanks! Hopefully, the sandbox allows people to try out some things and see how Release works. Release become most powerful when you are deploying into your own infra and mixing and matching your web apps and AI apps.
erik_landerholm··on Launch HN: Release (YC W20) – Orchestrate AI Infrastructure and Applications
Not sure I would describe it that way exactly, :). The templates are to get your started. Release itself takes docker compose, docker files, helm, terraform, etc and gives you a way to organize them and a workflow engine to deploy, update and remove every part of the environment. All of the functionality works with the AI templates.

The templates are a good place to start and with our concept of workspaces, you an easily attach data sources and do development with common ai tools and frameworks.

A lot of our customers and others we have talked to don't even know where to start with AI, including RAG. Our templates, infra management and workflow engine make it easy to spin up multiple environments, with varying configs for testing all the way to production.

While a lot of companies are getting into the RAG framework or Fine Tuning framework business, by releasing open source project, it is still very difficult to tie it all together.

Both nvidia and Docker have lamented about this issue to us and this is our attempt to make some of these frameworks easier to use.

Thank you! Let us know how you get on with it!

Thank you! We believe our standard product and Release.ai work really well together!

Thanks!

Release.ai gives you complete control over your infrastructure and allows you to create the workflows that are best for your particular problem. You can go as deep as you would like using the open source AI tools available to you without restrictions.

Release.ai is much cheaper than those options even with our pricing on top of your cloud costs.

We are a single pane of glass no matter where your k8s clusters are running. You don't need to learn bedrock, sagemaker, gemini, etc in order to use gpus in different clouds.

Release also makes it very easy to create complete applications with web services and ai services together. No other platform allows you to do both easily.

We are a complete platform where you have total control over the software you select and how it needs to be integrated in your development processes.

Thanks for the kind words!

erik_landerholm··on Oxide pays all employees $191,227 (Bay Area startup)
These are the worst kind of articles. This is self promotion of a dumb idea.
erik_landerholm··on Ask HN: What supplements do you take that have good scientific backing?
I notice it most for big compound movements. I cycle on and off of it. And when I go back on I can tell the difference and all the scientific studies back up that it works.

erik_landerholm··on Ending Logan Paul's Biggest Scam (Part 3) [video]
I want to feel bad for the people who fell for this, but it’s so stupid, it’s hard to. We really are in the dumbest timeline.

Yes
erik_landerholm··on ElonJet Is Now Suspended
Literally the reason he bought Twitter. Congrats Elon! /s
erik_landerholm··on Eye contact marks the rise and fall of shared attention in conversation
Yeah I’m really good at those hidden 3d pictures. I can split the focus of my eyes super quickly and will do that sometimes while looking at someone if I feel like I’ve not looked at their eyes for too long. On zoom if I’m really listening I’m literally turning my head to the side and possibly closing my eyes.
erik_landerholm··on Tesla rival Rivian posts losses of $1.7B, with worse to come
It’s different. Rivian will have serious issues without all the gov loans and money Tesla got. I expect Tesla to struggle a lot in the future as the more established brands get their EV stories solidified. There is a lot more to a car or truck than a drivetrain. In some ways that’s the easiest part.
erik_landerholm··on Ask HN: Charging for Twitter verification, was it a wise decision?
It's a dumb idea, like most of Elon's ideas lately, imo.
erik_landerholm··on Ask HN: Skeptical about my company going “full serverless”. What am I missing?
Nothing. You should be. For any serious workload it will be wayyyy more expensive than an RI running a vm or ecs/eks running a container or two. It will also perform worse most likely or at least be less consistent.
erik_landerholm··on Weed Became the New OxyContin
I don’t know how to deal with these kind of articles. As someone that uses these high potency cartridges often, and knows tons of people that do also, I’ve never seen anything even remotely like what is described in this article. I’m open to marijuana being dangerous, but I’ve never really seen it. Now mixing it with meth, shit like that seems like a horrible idea.

erik_landerholm··on Flat-to-curved screens have an identity crisis
I bought the 65 inch version of this TV a few years ago. https://www.lg.com/us/tvs/lg-OLED77W9PUA-signature-oled-4k-t...

They aren’t making them anymore, manufacturing issues and issues with the proprietary cable, but I must admit it’s like a magic portal and I love it for no other reason than it’s flatter than a #2 pencil. Lol Favorite thing I’ve ever bought.

It’s very bendy. You can roll it up loosely. I tried it once, but freaked me out too much.

erik_landerholm··on Ask HN: Can BeReal Scale?
Anything social that has not embraced the self promotion aspect of it hasn’t been successful in the long run at all…that I can think of. Seems like a tough sell.
erik_landerholm··on The great Silicon Valley shake-out
It shakes out which products are necessary and which are nice-to-haves, but also can slow down the adoption of new necessary products for a while. This slow down, recession, will be the death of many saas companies who ran fast when money was cheap and have the bad luck to need money in 12 months or less.

The amount of preemptive firing and layoffs to extend runway is just beginning.

erik_landerholm··on A dirty dish by the sink can be a big marriage problem
Been married for 20 years almost…we never fight. We both do things that aren’t optimal, but we give each other the benefit of the doubt, we talk about everything, we don’t step on each other’s areas of responsibility, we don’t speak harshly to each other and we are best friends. I can’t ever imagine being in a the situation described above. I mean all the individual things happen to us leaving dishes, muddy whatever (we have 5 kids…so the noise alone), but so what? It’s all in how you both handle everything. We’ve never found it hard to exist together.

I think the biggest thing is we never speak harshly to each other. If we aren’t exactly kind we apologize, but we never speak to each other or our children in ways I hear others do all the time. That is the love killer.

erik_landerholm··on The singularity is close?
I don’t find these arguments convincing for AGI to appear. Saying scale is not the answer isn’t not argument for AGI.

Saying the ball is “rolling” and that AI will design AGI just isn’t convincing. We don’t understand how biological machines learn and especially not our own brain. And admittedly our AI is unrelated to how human intelligence is created which is our gold standard for AGI…

So why would anyone think the singularity is close? When I read this is still seems impossibly far away.

erik_landerholm··on America Will Collapse by 2025 (2010)
Using number of patents as a measure makes this whole premise dubious.
erik_landerholm··on 70 First Co-Founder Dates
You just have to find technical people that can do both to some level that is good enough to prove your mvp has legs. After you raise money as long as you can stick to all technical people do it…as long as you can.
erik_landerholm··on 70 First Co-Founder Dates
I guess it would depend on what it is, but I would think anything I would be interested in would need more than one technical person from the beginning…everything I’ve ever started has.
