ericcholis··on Moonshot’s Kimi uses 20k Nvidia chip cluster from Alibaba
I read this as if they purchased it from Alibaba the marketplace.....
ericcholis··on Microsoft new Outlook takes 10 seconds to do what Outlook Classic does instantly
I think that the usage of WebView2 is a moot point. It effectively is an Edge browser just the same as Edge itself. There may be other underlying issues, but I'd be shocked if WebView2 was to blame.
ericcholis··on Uber caps employee AI spending after blowing through budget in four months
I believe that Enterprise plans have no bundled usage.

ericcholis··on Nanobrew: The fastest macOS package manager compatible with brew
HOMEBREW_NO_AUTO_UPDATE=1 will disable this (annoying) behavior. Set it in your bashrc or zshrc.
ericcholis··on What is a manifold?
That's why I clicked the title...thought for sure I was getting some engine knowledge
ericcholis··on I tried every todo app and ended up with a .txt file
This flies a bit in the face of the author's "The sync breaks. The company sells out and dies" point and the simple beauty of a text file. I find that Obsidian.md is just one step above a text file.

Simple daily notes, which are automatically organized into year and month folders. (Tip: Set the date format to YYYY/YYYY-MM/YYYY-MM-DD)

The Sync feature works great, but no reason you couldn't do this with just git on your own.

Plenty of built-in features (Plugins, ToDos, etc...)

Cross platform apps.

Markdown

Free. The sync feature is $4/month. Worth it for me.

They also have a one-time $25 payment to get early access to beta versions and a VIP discord channel.

ericcholis··on How we replaced Elasticsearch and MongoDB with Rust and RocksDB
Typsense as a product has been great (hosted cluster). Customer support has been awesome as well.

ericcholis··on Trivial REST server in various languages to compare
I was wondering this as well. The Python example almost felt like cheating with FastApi....but I suppose it's also pythonic.
ericcholis··on Netflix buffering issues: Boxing fans complain about Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
The Masters app is truly incredible, I don't know if it gets enough praise.
ericcholis··on Bank of America raises minimum hourly pay
My grandmother worked for a bank for the better part of her life. She used to bring old punch cards home to use for notes/grocery lists. My mom and I used to drive through her teller window and send her cookies through the tubes or the document slot.
ericcholis··on Bank of America raises minimum hourly pay
Yes, many banks have drive-through tellers that use Pneumatic tubes to send things back and forth
ericcholis··on State of S3 – Your Laptop is no Laptop anymore – a personal Rant
S3 basically killed a perfectly good Dell XPS 15 a few years ago. The fan would never stop running.
ericcholis··on Region-specific Machines pricing
I'm curious as well. Pretty happy with DO overall; but it is relatively vanilla as far as a hosting product goes.
ericcholis··on Sending emails to my three-year-old
I'd like to do this as well. BUT, I have serious doubts that free gmail will be around long enough. Any thoughts on an alternative service? DIY with markdown and git hosted somewhere portable maybe....
ericcholis··on New iPad Pro with M4 chip and Apple Pencil Pro
The pencil for the Remarkable tablet has this feature. I found that it was a great way to ease into digital note taking. Matching a real-world feature felt very natural.
ericcholis··on IceCube observes seven potential tau neutrinos
I got more than a little excited that somehow O'Shea Jackson picked up an interesting hobby.
ericcholis··on A lost hiker ignored rescuers' phone calls, thinking they were spam (2021)
Or leave a voicemail. I'm guessing that their phone service was a landline or VOIP that didn't support sending SMS.
ericcholis··on The UX of delivering parcels
Having worked a lot on the shipper side, it's possible that the package hasn't been picked up by the carrier yet. I've seen tracking numbers issued "client-side" that get re-issued or invalidated after pickup as well.
ericcholis··on ExifTool Turns 20
This is likely one of those "never done" projects.
ericcholis··on RIP to my 8-port Unifi switch after years and years of Texas outdoor temps

ericcholis··on n8n.io - A powerful workflow automation tool
Anybody have experience with this in comparison to parabola?
ericcholis··on OpenEPaperLink: Alternative Firmware for ZBS243-Based eInk Shelf Labels
On the flip side, does anybody have experience with the commercially available options out there? Relatively small footprint. Maybe 4 locations with around 500 skus per location.
ericcholis··on Is something wrong with Amazon Photos? I lost 240k photos
I have PhotoSync (https://www.photosync-app.com/home.html) set up to automatically send all my iCloud photos to my home NAS which automatically backs up to Backblaze. I can also specify other destinations for PhotoSync and the NAS backup.
ericcholis··on NYC Slice
Similarly, you could do the same thing on the other end of the state in Buffalo, NY. Hard to find a truly disappointing slice. What you will find, however, is a variety in "style" of pizza. They all live somewhere in the neighborhood of 80/20 NY/Chicago style. Easy to find a nice thin slice, but plenty of thicker doughier options. Never so far as a full deep-dish.
ericcholis··on Devirtualizing nike.com's bot protection
Based on your experience, do you think dutch auction or reverse-dutch auction is a viable soft mechanism for beating bots?
ericcholis··on Web IDE Beta
I think that the market share of "new" IDEs is pretty well established between VSCode, Sublime and the various Jetbrains offerings.
