emjoes1··on Anatomy of a Frontier Lab Agent Intrusion: A Timeline of the July 2026 Incident
Is humor not allowed on HN anymore... this is funny!
emjoes1··on Plunging Home Prices, Fleeing Companies: Austin's Glow Is Fading
Is that any different that the media or cancel culture?
emjoes1··on iPadOS Identified as Digital 'Gatekeeper' Under New EU Tech Rules
The EU - "it would be a shame if something happened to your business model". idk it sounds like the EU is becoming more like organized crime in how they act - "and hey we need you to make a way to break E2E encryption so we can monitor".
emjoes1··on Physically attractive attorneys tend to have greater success in federal court
Maybe this explains why people on tv seem uglier now than 10 years ago. We must have a war on beauty now.
emjoes1··on The Great Oxygenation Event
What is the great oxygen holocaust? Odd choice of words.
emjoes1··on Bad therapy is stunting our kids
Are we all not bias in some way. Anymore, just an opinion counts for that.

In a conversation with a father that allowed his daughter to choose her pronoun I mentioned that is as dangerous as a parent that allows their child to eat only cake for dinner - he instantly labeled me as a conservative.

In a conversation with a stranger about a friend that cannot hold a job I mentioned how I wish there was some sort of UBI program that would allow him to at least live a basic life - he instantly labeled me as a liberal.

Are not our opinions now considered biased just based on our opinion... so we just should not have an opinion.

emjoes1··on YouTube-dl has been taken down
Why would anyone use an online service for this anyways. Why not just use VLC?
emjoes1··on The Youth Mental Health Crisis Is International Part 4: Europe
Though, if your in a church that is virtue signaling then you need to find a different church.
emjoes1··on Ask HN: 9-yo son wants to build a game, I'm lost. What can I do?
Others comments are great. I just wanted to throw out a couple of things my son and I enjoy - RPG in a Box which you can find on Steam is great as you can make a game without needing to write code but also supports scripting if he decides he is interested. Also doing the Build Box by Mark Rober is fun though a bit pricey.
emjoes1··on Our response to Elon Musk and X Corp’s lawsuit against CCDH
I understand trying to track misinformation but why are we tracking 'hate speech'? Tangent: If I am in a conversation with someone (a friend) and you over hear me saying 'that's gay' don't bother to come and tell me that's offensive. I wasn't talking to you and I don't think that is hate speech, especially in the context I was using.

I feel like society is trying to police too much shit. It reminds me of the old movie Demolition Man where he is fined for saying a dirty/hate word.

emjoes1··on The Birth of the Grid
Why would this story not be. It is described as "America's transmission story".
emjoes1··on A passenger aircraft that flies around the world at Mach 9?
Why not? Because an engine based on 'rotating detonation' could be more efficient than what is in current use today. An engine that can burn a mixture of hydrogen peroxide and Jet-A fuel is better than just Jet-A fuel.? Why is the first response always about burning carbon... at least this is getting people to destinations fast. Go beat up on people joy riding around in cruise ships burning heavy fuel oil.
emjoes1··on Frost Flowers on the Windows (1899)
Lol and I thought this was a real phenomenon I have never observed or heard of.
emjoes1··on Frost Flowers on the Windows (1899)
I have never heard of this. I did not see modern answer for this phenomenon is, do we know?
emjoes1··on Librarian's Letter to Google Security
Rich and poor, young and old, have this in common. I know many college educated and affluent people that can't manage passwords or multi-factor authentication. Oh and don't ask them to save recovery codes because they will put them in highly insecure places... and then forget where they put them.
emjoes1··on Librarian's Letter to Google Security
Rich and poor (young and old) have this in common. Most people I work with are college educated and utterly fail when it comes to managing passwords or multi-factor auth.
emjoes1··on The new silent majority: People who don't tweet
Well said. I buy into your theory and $0.02. If we fall back to rules of polite conversation than trying to "fix" our compulsions then we don't even need a social network with filters or circles.
emjoes1··on Brutal life working in Amazon warehouse
Just had to chime in and say this was how it was when I worked in a Frito Lay warehouse. Lost 10lbs in my first week (probably water weight) because of the heat and labor required. Also same experience when working at Dixie warehouse. That is par for warehouse work.
emjoes1··on How hip-hop is introducing children to coding and technology
Wow, this was just a sad read.

I found the title "Hustling 101: How to Turn Your Code into Cash" to be more cringe-worthy. Sorry but Hip-Hop music/culture is what is keeping people down.

emjoes1··on Advertising watchdog to get tough on gender stereotypes
Could not agree more. What I find odd is that this is how most of the people are I come into contact with. Most women I know, including my wife, desire the stereotypical life. She wants to stay at home while I work. It's not like any of our 'roles' are set in stone it is just how things happened. The few friends I still have are in similar positions with their spouses.
emjoes1··on American tech companies censor themselves in foreign markets
This happens here in America. Wedding Crashers was on E! (cable tv channel) not long ago and the part where Betty White's character is talking about Eleanor Roosevelt (I believe) and calls here a "big lesbian mule"... "big dyke" was cut out. All American companies are afraid of offending someone.
emjoes1··on Wells Fargo Is Accused of Making Improper Changes to Mortgages
I second that. Tried using cash as a down payment on a house did not fly even though I could reconcile the difference in cash with what I kept in the bank with my pay stubs and deposit/withdrawl records. Underwriters want to see that cash sitting in a bank account.
emjoes1··on Warren Buffett says health care costs are a bigger problem than corporate taxes
Yes it seems the complexity of billing still has something to do with Who Pays.

I had a similar issue where I was billed for a physical that my insurance provider would not pay. My wife suggested I have the Dr. office re-code the bill. Not sure what that is but I contacted the Dr. office and explained that it was not a wellness check up but an annual physical that my insurance should cover. After arguing for about 10 minutes they finally agreed to re-submit to insurance under that code... and it ended up being covered by insurance after all.

emjoes1··on Microdosing: People taking LSD with breakfast
now that's a bad trip lol
emjoes1··on Things About Life I Wish I Had Known 10 Years Ago
"When you have money you never think about it. When you don't have money it's all you think about."

emjoes1··on Campaign to Buy Browsing Histories of Politicians Who Passed Anti-Privacy Law
Can I just sell my data? I really don't care and not sure why everyone is freaking out over this. I also believe most tech muggles don't care either. Also is not most of our data sold by data brokers currently - like your physical address. Not sure what I should worry about with my browsing data...
emjoes1··on Laziness isn’t why people are poor. And iPhones aren’t why they lack health care
From what I have observed low income people have ObamaPhones. So perhaps that is how they are affording them. But then again the people I observed lived in a ghetto and were signing up for cable and seemed to have more disposable income than they let on... A bit like your father I am confused how they afford a bunch of stuff they appeared to own.
emjoes1··on Louisville announces civic data partnership with IFTTT
Not to complain about something not exactly related but I wish the city of Louisville could make traffic data more available. The Trimarc.org site is not that great on mobile, many of the cameras do not work, and a couple of wks back they disabled their RSS feed. So far none of the open data crap this city has done is worth a damn.
emjoes1··on When You Are Depressed, Make Something
For me making something is like a drug. I have a lot of fun working on it and even immersing myself but after a while the fun runs out. If I finish what I am working on I feel awesome then almost immediately sad. Then I have to find something else.
emjoes1··on Open Letter to a Car-Addicted City (2014)
Intimidation. I dealt with that a lot when riding the bus in my city, was a problem back in 1998, was a couple of years ago, and from my understanding still is today. Perhaps my city just sux though.
