At least you got away "easy". I'm waiting for the "...cost us $100k..." post.
Without the community posting and answering questions, ChatGPT won't work anymore. They (SO) have to block any scrapping, wait until GPU prices go down, or use open-source LLMs with their data and figure out how to monetize that service (maybe giving some percentage to devs, etc...) or even check if that approach (add a chatbot service) makes sense.
They just caved to the FOMO mentality without considering that tech is always evolving and they need engineers, dev, etc... to keep finding out bugs, writing about their experiences on how they solved those errors, etc...
We'll see if a different contender figures this out and comes out with that solution if SO doesn't change its course.
The end game here is to have just enough just in case AI comes to fruition and we all go bust.
I'm still trying to teach my children how to code, Electronics, etc... Since, well, that's what I know. Other than that, I'm just trying to give them a head start in life even I didn't have one.
It seems like they'll shut down any product that doesn't cause the world to stop.
We're using some products and upper management is thinking on moving parts of the core business to different platforms "just in case".
Google is loosing what little credibility they have left by always shutting down perfectly good products.
I'm still using Search engines (Brave most of the time and google when I can't find what I'm looking for), tech forums, StackOverflow (Still a tech gold mine), etc... and lastly chatgpt if I have time to write a really good prompt.
The bubble is still there, few are paying attention outside it, let alone using it to be "rich". Heck, Crypto Bros are now selling courses on how to monetize chatGPT, and what's worse, people are buying it! It's the same cycle over and over again.
Yes, LLMs brought decades of R&D to the forefront of society and put that piece of tech on people's hands yet that doesn't mean everyone will adopt it just because. Our phones are engineering marvels yet we use them for mundane things most of the time.
It's not going to stop there. They went full 180 degrees and now care about the money above all else. I don't trust them and hope more competition gets in the arena.
Instagram is just business ads at this point, TikTok is adding ads and their feed is getting worse, I don't even know what's happening on fb. Reddit is somewhat bearable only if you follow enough subs.
I don't want to be on an echo chamber when discussing general topics, politics, etc... That doesn't get anywhere.
Time will tell.
