edkennedy··on “BRAAAM”: The Sound That Invaded the Hollywood Soundtrack
"You never get fired for hiring Zimmer"
edkennedy··on Amazon Go
What I like about this is it encourages the European style of grocery shopping. That is, visiting a grocery store daily to make dinner with fresher foods. The longer the lines, wait, and commute, the larger grocery orders will get and the further people are pushed towards Costco style grocery purchasing.
edkennedy··on Uber Now Tracks Passengers’ Locations Even After They’re Dropped Off
Currently, I live in one of those large building complexes and have seen the related changes you bring up. The app has updated to show the different spots commonly used for pickup/drop off and I clicked on one of those instead of moving the pin every time like I used to.

edkennedy··on “Sonicwall products are not returnable”
The idea is you use a reseller for all your products, they manage the relationship with the manufacturer or publisher and work to get you the best price/service. If you have doubts about using a "middle man" keep them honest with a 2nd or 3rd quote, sometimes direct every now and then. But working with one rep for all your products can be a huge boon to doing business in savings of money and time.

Disclaimer: I work for a VAR

Neil Strauss wrote a good one, that's pretty amusing too. EMERGENCY: This book will save your life. https://amzn.com/0060898771
edkennedy··on The Fake Factory That Pumped Out Real Money
The theory behind it is sound, the issue is with sustainability. Changing the ecosystem that much when you have no idea how sustainable the growth is or how it will affect the ecosystem as a whole is risky.
edkennedy··on CIA’s Database of Protests and Protesters and a Pentagon Riot
The link is that they gave one of their agents authorization for the levitation... but then stocked an entire military unit there from Fort Bragg to escalate the situation into a riot for further study.

edkennedy··on Thousands of Hip Hop Mix Tapes, Why Not
Yes, I was a bit disappointed by the selection. Very modern hip hop and kind of a grab bag of pop hop.
edkennedy··on PadMapper (YC S10) is Joining Zumper
Great work! I miss the ability to specify "house", it seems now I have to turn off different sources in order to do that.
edkennedy··on Show HN: Yet another (faster) way to discover events nearby
Excellent work. I've seen a lot of event sites and this one is the most concise and efficient. Seems to pull a lot of events! Would be nice if you could facebook integrate your friends events too.

I think you're getting the HN hug right now. Submitted a registration form never got the e-mail. I can't click any of the categories (like business for example). Changing the radius would be nice. Metric vs imperial for the 'muricans.

edkennedy··on “Subject: Urgent Warning”
Instagram support is an utter joke, accounts are routinely stolen/disabled and Instagram doesn't offer much support besides a pat on the shoulder and a "there there"
edkennedy··on Canada's Muzzled Scientists Can Speak Freely Again
They have already started coming forward: http://www.cbc.ca/news/trending/unmuzzled-scientist-facebook...

edkennedy··on The sky's gone dark
http://www.pnas.org/content/112/20/6325.abstract

It has been proven that it does contaminate. That also doesn't consider the pools of wastewater on the surface. There are peer reviewed studies out there that state the evidence. Sadly, there is also a lot of misinformation being pushed by the oil and gas industry.

edkennedy··on Sex, Circuits and Deep House
I remember running into the Institute on Esplanade and asking "The Institute of What?". They had all kinds of interesting gadgets on their front lawn. I really love the concept and implementation of this, in particular the careful consideration of proximity detection instead of a chat client. Really lovely way to promote human interaction instead of drawing the user in to interacting with the device itself.
edkennedy··on Ask HN: Do you work in a company that will fire you for average performance?
Sales for a publically traded company. If you don't show growth above average, you will be fired. Unrealistic quotas and complete ignorance of market conditions (quota is the same in a boom or bust) leads to high performance standards. It's a constant high pressure environment and most people quit before they are fired to avoid the shame of a firing.
edkennedy··on What happens when you talk about salaries at Google
My understanding from reading the vague tweets was the "fuck off" statement was referring to some other occurance of racism that she mentions, unrelated to the salary spreadsheet.
edkennedy··on Ellen Pao Is Stepping Down as Reddit’s Chief

edkennedy··on U.S. Legalization of Marijuana Has Hit Mexican Cartels’ Cross-Border Trade
Could you elaborate on your point about the recording of crimes prior to the 1960? I'd be interested to see a source and a few google searches didn't bring up anything.
edkennedy··on Water crisis coming in 15 years unless the world acts now, UN report warns
Lovely ideas, but very far out of reach. Some of our elected officials would rip apart planned parenthood and impose strict rules on birth control if they could.
edkennedy··on The FDA buries evidence of fraud in medical trials. My students and I dug it up
Time to split into a Food Dept. and Drug Dept. and reform them from the ground up to be health based rather than corporately based.
edkennedy··on [dead]
Anecdotal evidence or do you have a link to this claim?
edkennedy··on North Korea's Official Statement
The main goal with propaganda like this is to subvert other messages so they align with your own intentions. IE: Guardians of Peace hacked Sony because the US is a bully, etc.
edkennedy··on North Korea's Official Statement
What's the matter you never read Dadaist poetry? Jokes aside I found it interesting to read something you know is propaganda, the rhythm and efforts to influence were different.
edkennedy··on North Korea's Official Statement
>It is said that the movie was conceived and produced according to the "guidelines" of the U.S. authorities who contended that such movies hurting the dignity of the DPRK supreme leadership and inciting terrorism against it would be used in an effective way as "propaganda against north Korea".

This is what I thought the first time I heard about this movie. I thought that it's either puerile and immature or crafted and malicious (while still being immature). Then again screenwriters have always been desperate for ideas...

edkennedy··on Snapchat CEO predicts Facebook will implode like Yahoo
Revenue is not zero - they have sponsored posts and now take a percentage of money transfers.
edkennedy··on Introducing Snapcash
I predict that use and paying a local drug dealer will be the primary use in the demographic they go for.
edkennedy··on The Fire Phone Is Officially a Failure
I think the relative failure of the Fire tablet should have been a sign to Amazon that they needed a new approach for the phone.
