easymodex··on LiveLeak shuts down after 15 years online
>I have seen things which have refused to exit my memory ever since, and the exhaustion of having to put so much energy and trust into therapists that ultimately never work out means that they will probably stay there for a long time.

Look into treating yourself with mdma or psilocybin.

easymodex··on The unusual ways Western parents raise children
On the couch usually.
easymodex··on Bitfinex and Tether required to end all trading activity with New Yorkers
So much for freedom right?
easymodex··on Ask HN: Anyone know any funny programming jokes?
Yes, but I was too lazy to document it.
easymodex··on Artificial eyespots on cattle reduce predation by large carnivores
I suppose if they all had it, noone would be fooled anymore.
easymodex··on Independence, autonomy, and too many small teams
The term "two-pizza" teams is always weird to me, like how can you get anything done with only 2 people on the team.
easymodex··on I trick my well-developed procrastination skills
Where I work it's like if you do a bad job and screw something up everyone notices and it's a whole lot of drama involved, but if you do a good job and fix something before it blows up, no one notices and no one cares. So all the bad without the good. I guess you get used to it after a while but I would love a metaphorical pat on the back and a "good job" every now and then.
easymodex··on Why we listen to new music
I don't know if that's true, around 14 I did emotionally connect to music ofc, for some reason I was into nu-metal at the time. From then on I've made several 180° turns and the music I listened to back then falls somewhere between cringy to kinda alright, depending on the song. For me it feels as my music taste is evolving the emotional connection is actually going up. Well perhaps 14 is the average but it's certainly not true for everyone, the tail can be pretty long.
easymodex··on Ask HN: How do I overcome mental laziness?
>Play video games that require intense focus for prolonged durations to perform well like Starcraft 2, CSGO, DOTA 2 helped me build mental endurance.

Don't do that. These games are exactly the core of my own mental laziness.

easymodex··on Contact Tracing in the Real World
US already has 20k deaths and only 500k confirmed infections. Not all of those infections have had an outcome and not all infected have been confirmed so it's hard to do an exact calculation but based on that data more than a million deaths is very likely. So yeah, it's worth it.
easymodex··on ‘Content network effect’ makes TikTok tough to copy
I'm pretty sure it's viral due to people sharing other people doing stupid things, not because people agree with it.
easymodex··on Upside-Down World of Negative Rates Is Coming for U.S. Savers
Buy bitcoin, I wish I could say I'm joking.
easymodex··on How I recorded an album on my own, in my room
This is great, exactly what I've been trying to do but there's never enough time and now the second kid is on the way... I guess I'll have to just find that extra time somehow because you got me excited again.

One question: What did you use for the guitar amp? I personally use Guitar rig and I keep getting lost in all those infinite guitar sounds. I'm worried my songs won't sound cohesive if I experiment too much and have a different setup (or several) for each song. Do you just pick a few sets like a clean sounding one, dirty sounding one and stick with them through the whole record (maybe add some unique effects here and there) or does it not matter?

easymodex··on Ask HN: Is UK government insane or genius?
I really can't believe how stupid this is, I was starting to feel positive about the whole thing, China got it under control, they are sending resources to Italy to help get it under control, cures and vaccines are being developed while people stay indoors and the number of cases drops. WE COULD ERRADICATE THE VIRUS JUST BY STAYING HOME FOR 1 FUCKING MONTH. Literally that's all it would take, a person isn't contagious after a month, if everyone cooperated for the greater good we could have this under control, it's not too late, it's the one and only chance to not make this virus "the norm" of our society, every day it's gonna get much harder... But then you hear a country with 60 million people just isn't gonna do anything about it, throwing in the towel before the fight even started and dooming the whole world with them. It's beyond insane.

I'm sorry but this is just too much, I was hoping we would have the common sense to do our best to contain the spread but seems we just have to travel, go to the gym, go for beers every night and hang out, even though it will kill a lot of people around you. Your fathers, mothers, grandparents, your friend's parents, your neighbour's family, they might as well all die because you can't stay home for a month. Really I expected too much from people and forgot how stupid the average person is. I expect global warming will also go great, kudos humanity.

easymodex··on COVID-19 Therapeutics Accelerator
From what i understand, one of the ways COVID-19 kills is by triggering an extreme autoimmune reaction which attacks the lungs (see: Cytokine storm).
easymodex··on Writing Runbook Documentation When You’re an SRE
Did you just assume my scale?
easymodex··on Lungs heal damage from smoking
24mg is so high, i started with 6mg and then went to 3mg. For me the whole point is to smoke the least amount of nicotine and try to keep it healthy (will try quitting soon as well).
easymodex··on Not everyone has an internal monologue
"The call of the void"
easymodex··on The economics of all-you-can-eat buffets
Well my trick is to get a little bit of everything then return and just get what you liked the most and go crazy. Sometimes there's an issue with too many things to try, but usually it works. I always take all-you-can-eat literally.
easymodex··on Miscarriage can lead to 'long-term post-traumatic stress'
>I believe this, simply because the vast majority of abortions are elective.

That can't be right, you're dearly underestimating the number of miscarriages or we live in a very crazy world.

easymodex··on What is music? A unified theory of music and dreaming
I also have some stories like that. One time I dreamt about a friend who I haven't seen or heard from for more than a year and the same day I run into him at a random gas station on the other side of town. I mean I know this is probably a coincidence but it's just one of those moments where you start thinking if there is something supernatural about it.
easymodex··on Publishers Determined to Kill E-Books
What? So for borrowing e-books you also have to take turns reading it? This is just insane.
easymodex··on Alcohol and social bonding in humans (2018)
Alcohol's track record in my life thus far:

Relationships created: 8+

Relationships destroyed or severely damaged: 1-2

Not so bad, most of our social gatherings include a lot of alcohol, though drinking at home or by yourself is really weird.

easymodex··on Confessions of a Book Pirate (2010)
How much of those 50$ get taken by the publishers, managers, etc.? I'd much rather pay for stuff if i knew it actually went to the person who wrote it.
easymodex··on One Tether Trader Didn't Cause the Bitcoin Bubble
>All you need is banks and laws and judges and police.

Wow that's all? Seems so much easier than just having a crypto wallet and sending anything to anyone at any time.

easymodex··on Opinion: Standard Time all year round is the healthy choice
I absolutely prefer DST or summer time over standard, it just makes so much more sense. With standard time sun goes down at 5pm here so the only time there's any sunlight is while im the office working. Standard time sucks for our modern lifestyle.
easymodex··on Climate change has turned permafrost into a carbon emitter
I suppose, but before that happens the environment could get very, very unpleasant for humans (and animals in general).
easymodex··on Estonia is running its country like a tech company
Cryptocurrencies.
easymodex··on Dr Sarah E. Hill: ‘A blind spot about how the pill influences women’s brains’
Exactly this. My girlfriend had severe pain when ovulating and also had strong menstrual periods so basically the only tolerable days for her were the 2 weeks in between. She went through several different pills (as prescribed by her gynaecologist). One gave her severe headaches like every other day, another made her absolutely crazy - fights, crying, always moody, she really was NOT the person i knew and loved. Then finally one worked okay, she only had mild periods and just had them every 3 months or so.

After our first baby her cycles and pains got a lot better, having a baby kind of resets the body so right now she's off the pill and for the past year we're doing fine with the pull-out method (but if she got pregnant we wouldn't mind so it's no problem).

Hah, cool site, thanks for sharing. I love how /biz/ posts per day chart follows bitcoin price over past few years.
