dualboot··on Django Suit: modern theme for Django admin
I disagree.

I think the price is reasonable and encourages people to use it in their commercial Django projects.

There is nothing that prevents people from deciding to pay him more if they feel like it.

dualboot··on Marissa Mayer Rolls Out a New Yahoo.com
I wish she would get rid of the incredibly tacky "from Yahoo!" that someone cut and paste on the the Flickr logo.
dualboot··on The Economics of Netflix's $100 Million Show
Grew up in the south. His accent is wonderful.

There are thousands of accents in that portion of the country just like anywhere else.

For me it's a wonderful departure from Kevin Spacey being "Kevin Spacey" in just about everything else I've seen him in.

House of Cards is delightful.

Just delete the file. Fixes the problem.

dualboot··on How long would it take for a Foxxcon worker to buy an iPad?
Having been one of those factory workers -- it was not really something I lost sleep over.

I did get a laugh out of the thought, though.

dualboot··on How long would it take for a Foxxcon worker to buy an iPad?
Not really sure about what is unfair about it. An iPad and iPhone is a luxury item.

It's actually startlingly easy for a worker in China to be able to afford something as amazing as a tablet computer.

There are certainly concerns about the factory "cities" that the workers have to live in and spend 95% of their annual income on.

dualboot··on How long would it take for a Foxxcon worker to buy an iPad?
Not particularly informative. I worked on an assembly line for four months during the aftermath of the DotCom collapse building Mercedes M-Class SUV's. I've never ridden in a Mercedes much less driven one.

Of course I could if it was a life goal but I still wouldn't waste my money on something like that.

dualboot··on Applebee's fires server for sharing receipt on Reddit
She was fired because she shared private information about the customer and made the company look bad.

I don't think anyone would expect to not be fired if they don't redact information that could lead to them being instantly identified.

dualboot··on Linus talks about Apple laptops, Linux distributions, his work
Yes, he is. Some of us have excellent visual acuity. We would welcome devices that reward this with open arms.
dualboot··on Flickr Is Getting a Major Makeover
A major makeover? Great!

Not addressing the terrible Cut/Paste "From Yahoo!" logo?

Big mistake.

dualboot··on Copycats
Not every cloner wins -- but the biggest winners tend to be just that.

There are lots of examples -- but an easy one is google.

Google didn't invent search engines, webmail, web advertising, or anything else that represents their core offerings.

They just did it faster, better, cheapter, etc.

dualboot··on I also stand up for Stallman
I'd really hate to live in a world where everyone was bland, unoriginal, or even-worse so completely dishonest that they pretend that there is nothing that makes them the least bit unique.
dualboot··on Richard Stallman’s rider
Perhaps it is my experience in reading many of these riders in the past but I actually found this rider to be very reasonable and well thought out.

I would imagine it's an evolution of compiling best-case scenarios and trying to limit the worst.

You have to take into account that Dr. Stallman travels a lot and has to be a guest considerably more than most other people. Usually the people reading this rider want to make him feel at home and cater to his whims.

I would like to say that I'm surprised but honestly I'm not. Sure RMS has some odd behaviors but pretty much everyone who has dedicated a tremendous amount of energy to a cause as he has come with a cavalcade of interesting behaviors. Everything I've read about RMS as a person has revealed that he is generally a well thought out and decent person.. with some polarizing fundamental beliefs.

dualboot··on Steve Yegge: Follow Up to His Accidentally Public Rant
I don't know if I would describe the previous entry as "tearing him apart" because at the end of the day Bezos has still accomplished far more than just about anyone else we're likely to meet.

No one is perfect and it is really our ability to play to our strengths and our weaknesses that defines our ability to succeed in life.

dualboot··on The Setup: William Gibson
When he began his craft it was a world of typewriters.

Amazing imagination and forward thinking -- but it's hard to blame him for wanting technology to mostly stay out of his way.

dualboot··on Google Fiber: 151Mbps down / 92Mbps up
I can't tell from that chart.. is that Megabits per second or Megabytes?
dualboot··on Google's Motorola acquisition is just a 10% premium over their 2011 high
Microsoft's offer assigned Yahoo's shares at the same value as Microsoft shares. It was a fair and it was questionable for Yahoo not to take it.

On the other side of that coin Microsoft is really lucky that Yahoo didn't take the offer.

dualboot··on Facebook Wins “Worst API” in Developer Survey
Oh those sweet summer children.
dualboot··on Steve Jobs describes iCloud experience at WWDC 1997
When they launched MobileMe there were no iPads or iPad Touches.

It's a different ballgame now I think.

dualboot··on Steve Jobs describes iCloud experience at WWDC 1997
Doing it themselves and doing it right is my guess.

Just look at Sony for an example of rushing into doing something yourself (PSN.)

dualboot··on Xen has been fully integrated into Linux kernel 3.0
Slicehost uses XenSource.

Rackspace uses XenServer which is not quite the same thing.

Rackspace is migrating all slicehost customers to their XenServer based services and doing away with their XenSource product.

dualboot··on PSN has been hacked again
Valve would be great for people who respect what they do (me included) but I'm hesitant to believe that Valve has much to gain from the partnership.

Google and Amazon are actively working towards marketing to televisions screens -- Amazon with Prime/Digital Video media sales and Google with GoogleTV and YouTube. They have more to gain from a potential partnership.

dualboot··on PSN has been hacked again
The solution to Sony's issue here seems like a no-brainer to me.

The answer is to rebuild/rebrand the networking for the playstation with a strong partner like Amazon, Google, or Valve/Steam.

A partner like Amazon for example could bring good e-commerce stability to lend confidence to platform.

Google is also an excellent candidate -- they have the experience with scale and could use a strong partner like Sony to help push their home media platforms (GoogleTV, etc.)

dualboot··on Slicehost accounts will be converted to Rackspace cloud accounts
I'm most curious if this is a marketing decision or a result of an unsustainable business model.
dualboot··on Dr. Stallman responded to my open letter
RMS is a little bit nutty at times. I think everyone acknowledges and accepts this.

I prefer his eccentricities out in the open rather than him try to hide them away.

There is value to open and honest disclosure. We live in a world with far too much "marketing friendly" presentation.

I would imagine what you need is someone who is able to comprehend and convey effectively.

A geek with useable social skills and self-confidence.
