drlobster··on AI should only run as fast as we can catch up
I think you underestimating how good these image generators are at the moment.
drlobster··on Ask HN: How would you set up a child’s first Linux computer?
I'd give them a stack of Slackware floppies and half the manual.
drlobster··on Forth – Is it still relevant?
I'm very curious to know how it got on with that. I've had Claude Code write me a Forth for a custom CPU and then write applications on top of that. It get's there but unsurprisingly it's nowhere near as fluent in it as Python.
drlobster··on Show HN: Plexe – ML Models from a Prompt
I think what I'm after is being able to put these in pipeline.

I.e. if I already have some data cleaning/normalisation, some dimensional reduction and then some fitting, being able to drop the Agent in place with an appropriate description and task.

Cleaning: Feed it a data frame and have it figure out what needs imputing etc.

The rest: Could either be separate tasks or one big task for the Agent..

That's great. Is there anyway to make it part of a scikit-learn compatible pipeline.?

drlobster··on Samsung Q990D unresponsive after 1020 firmware update
They did this before, about five years ago. I had to send it back to them for a fix and it came back a few weeks later.

drlobster··on ASML looking to finally get ahead of Moore’s Law
ASML own 24.9% of ZEISS SMT, the part of ZEISS which makes the lenses for them.

drlobster··on Samsung expected to announce mass production of 3nm chip next week
Not sure EUV can ever become "cheap" as such, and not the DUV methods are so getting cheaper. The cheapo microcontrollers are likely made entirely with DUV (or longer wavelength) methods.

It's only the certain layers that are printed with EUV. Typically these are the first one or two metal layers (connecting the individual transistors) and the vias between them.

drlobster··on Ask HN: I'm making like 0 friends at college, how to fix it?
Sounds like you need to touch grass.
drlobster··on The $150M Machine Keeping Moore’s Law Alive
Having an EUV scanner in your possession is not even half the battle. Building the mirror systems alone is an enormous effort taking thousands of engineers at Zeiss. Not just the figuring and coating of the mirrors but the metrology for them takes a bunch of bespoke systems developed by Zeiss.
drlobster··on Ask HN: Introduction to Analog Synthesizers (Simulation OK)
I saw some lecture videos this guy put up years ago (nearly a decade now), lost the link and couldn't rememeber his name.

Thanks for this

drlobster··on Adolphe Sax, Inventor of the Saxophone
If you do visit also get a Couque de Dinant, which I understand is the worlds hardest biscuit.
drlobster··on Spotify reportedly fighting with employees about hosting episodes of Joe Rogan
I had to read the paragraph a few times, but I think what is being said is that "Joe has hosted self proclaimed neo-Nazis'.
drlobster··on Ask HN: Who has been laid off?
So its just like tinder?
drlobster··on Why do matter particles come in threes?
But not a good analogy.
drlobster··on Ask HN: Who wants to partake in a pro-tech party initiative?
Thats a 49:50 survival rate
drlobster··on Ask HN: Who wants to partake in a pro-tech party initiative?

Chance of survival is 1:100? I find it hard to believe that for every 100 who attempt it 99 die. The beaches of southern europe would be scattered with dead bodies

drlobster··on New Technique for Getting Your Resume Noticed
The picture is still standard in Germany, although it usually goes on a covering sheet. As a non-german living in Germany I find it laughable what passes for a resume in Germany.

I see PhDs listing which elementary school they attended, and they start in chronological order so the elementary school is listed first and you have to turn the page to see the PhD.

Frequently no attempt is made to clarify what their previous activity means. PhDs who merely write the title of their thesis to account for those 4 years (applying for first job directly after PhD outside of academia), who the hell knows what they are talking about?

The amazing thing is these (in my opinion) crappy resumes actually landed these people decent jobs.
