drivebyops··on Microsoft exec says Windows 11 kernel will soon be booting with Rust inside
Aren’t exploits on assembly reverse engineering?
drivebyops··on Mastodon is doomed?
Substack is the real 2008 Twitter alternative, having more people in a platform is a anti-feature
drivebyops··on Ken Thompson's 75 year project: A century of popular music in a jukebox [video]
There simply isn’t a proper contender to Apple. And with Apple silicon, it’s a done deal for the next decade at least. Apart from hardware, you need a company that is willing to take Linux from the ground up and create a macOS type OS. Not simply make your own distribution and DE and call it a day. Chromebook was close, but they had bad execution and wrong ideas.
drivebyops··on Flurly has been shut down by Stripe
Is Flurly literally a front end for users to sell whatever products they want via stripe? Lol
drivebyops··on Acute inflammatory response via neutrophil protects against chronic pain
As an aside, anyone have any insight on people with NSAID allergies? I pretty much have not taken aspirin/NSAIDs since the first allergic response as a child. What can people like myself do for anti-inflammation?
drivebyops··on Roaring Kitty to testify on GameStop alongside hedge fund managers
He only tweeted memes about dogecoin. And after the SEC filing about their Bitcoin plans, it makes sense why he didn’t tweet about Bitcoin before it
drivebyops··on Anesthesia works on plants too, and we don’t know why
Fiction my dude
drivebyops··on Towards Fully Automated Manga Translation
Some translators that still insist on localizing honorifics is funny, stuff like using Sir or making up a nickname for a character. I wonder what the Japanese do when translating English source to Japanese, do they insert honorifics where it doesn’t exist in the source?
drivebyops··on HN is blocked in China now?
I heard of a technique to wear shirts with faces on them to throw off the detection.
drivebyops··on Go Contracts – Draft Design
Searching “trait bounded generics” reveals nothing generic. Only rust results.

Did you mean ad-hoc polymorphism?

drivebyops··on Declined Proposal: A built-in Go error check function, “try”
Great that they listened to the community
drivebyops··on New antibiotics effective against resistant bacteria in mice
Are the infections happening because of the close proximity that animals are kept in?
drivebyops··on Europe says 737 Max won't fly until it completes it own design review
The statistics for this include motorcycles. I would really like to see one for only vehicles.
drivebyops··on S. Korean babies born Dec. 31 become 2-year-olds next day
You think this is weird. Then realize kids get put on their school group based on the birth year in the west anyway.

I wonder how a biological age based school grouping system would work out.

drivebyops··on Ask HN: What prevents Microsoft from adding a 'secure mode' to combat cheating?
This already happens, spinbots and speedhacks aren’t a thing anymore.

The current hacks are aim triggers, aim lock, aim/spray assist, and some close proximity wallhack.

The cheats calculate the recoil spread and auto lock to enemy heads. It’s obviously not as a bad as before with client side bullets, but it is still a problem.

drivebyops··on Serological response to H. pylori proteins linked to risk of colorectal cancer
I had h. Pylori. It can also give you stomach ulcers, which was quite painful.
drivebyops··on Lisp and Haskell (2017)
Well there are more Haskell jobs than rust here, so I wouldn’t say more mainstream.

Syntax isn’t as nice as Haskell as well. A Haskell programmer fed up with purity would just move to Ocaml or F# tbh.

drivebyops··on The Last Hope for Scala's Infinity War [video]
F# will gain more traction once the C# HKT proposal champion gets approved and merged (which will be a CLR change)
drivebyops··on How BuzzFeed Migrated from a Perl Monolith to Go and Python Microservices
Not really, C# and java have not historically produced static binaries. Unless using some third party tool.
drivebyops··on Twitter meets TensorFlow
Did twitter drop Scala? Wonder how the story is with ML and Scala
drivebyops··on Unreal Engine 4.19 Released
It’s also how epic reduced the input delay in a UE4 update a few months ago
drivebyops··on How knowing Lisp destroyed my programming career (2006)
More importantly it isn’t statically typed (like F#, Haskell, etc)
drivebyops··on Show HN: How to Make an AWS S3 Static Website with SSL
You can use cloudflare to get SSL with a custom domain for your GitHub pages

drivebyops··on Apple shareholders push for study of phone addiction in children
Silent FaceID can be used to auth every X mins with as a config tbh. Could even work as a blacklist
drivebyops··on Keyboard latency
People have made AB input lag tolerance game here

https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=1134&sid...

Some people in that thread are tolerant to 10ms...

drivebyops··on C# 8.0 previewed
Apparently this lays the ground work for the full proposal of Shapes

Aka typeclasses

drivebyops··on Tencent to limit play time of top-grossing game for children
Korea already does this for their games as well. In a mmo game like Maplestory they also always show your real life gender (since a ID is required to register) and even have 18+ restricted areas within the game
drivebyops··on America’s new tobacco crisis: The rich stopped smoking, the poor didn’t
It's about what government can do to promote against smoking. Anti smoking ads, anti smoking packaging laws, school exercises, etc about smoking over the years in Australia have led to a rapid decrease in smokers over there.
drivebyops··on Apple's 2TB iCloud plan will only cost $10 a month
