drewcon··on Tinnitus Neuromodulator
Same exact story for me.

Audiologist suggested treating it like a rock in your shoe. At the time seemed like impossible advice but now I just live with it and it’s 100% fine.

Also the idea that it is actually made worse by anxiety was a game changer for me. Literally, “don’t worry about it” is the exact right advice.

Live is also a massive time waster/cost.

Apple can pull it off, but if you’re at a mid market tech company you just sunk like weeks people’s time into choreographing a live movie. Super stressful time sync.

drewcon··on What happens when housing prices go down?
Austin. They’ve built more and prices have declined.
drewcon··on The ‘white-collar bloodbath’ is all part of the AI hype machine
5 years ago commercial image gen produced hallucinatory dream like blobs.

2 years ago it was cool but unreliable.

Today I just did an entire “photo shoot” in Midjourney.

Humans are not familiar with exponential change so they have almost no ability to manage through exponential change.

Its an apt comparison. The criticisms in the cnn article are already out date in many instances.

drewcon··on Issues with Color Spaces and Perceptual Brightness
Came here to say that. Seems to solve the problem around uniformity and also chroma is basically “gray” he’s talking about.
drewcon··on Lead drinking-water pipes must be replaced nationwide, EPA says
Yeah, I can't believe this has to be said.

This feels like a pretty solid Netflix limited series.
drewcon··on Thoughts on the New iOS Control Centre
I literally went through this exact thought process with new control center today. Absolute nightmare.
drewcon··on Some people with insomnia think they're awake when they're asleep
Sample size of 1.

A disc herniation caused me pain all night until it eventually destroyed my circadian rhythm. Even after it healed and the pain went away I had terrible sleep disruption. Up every 90 minutes, couldn't fall asleep until 4 am, waking up at 4 am. The works. Going on a few months.

Then I found sleep restriction.

First two weeks were brutal, but then biology takes over. And just like that, in a couple weeks, you rebuild you ability to fall asleep naturally and you're back to normal.

And in retrospect, this is exactly the approach we took to sleep training our young children. I swear by it.

drewcon··on The AI Revolution Is Already Losing Steam
This is such an important point.

Finance world looks at the consumer benefit as an interesting feature of the investment opportunity, while the technology world looks at the investment opportunity as an interesting feature of the technology change and consumer benefit.

The two communities will talk right past each other like they’re speaking different languages.

drewcon··on Nitrogen dioxide exposure due to gas and propane combustion by U.S. stoves
I couldn’t see I’d they reported cfm.

I have a 1200 cfm good and there is no chance anything below has any chance of escaping.

drewcon··on Almost a quarter of kids aged 5-7 have smartphones
Pretty sure we can do that right now.
drewcon··on Metabolism of autism reveals developmental origins
My only and immediate reaction as well.
drewcon··on New iPad Pro with M4 chip and Apple Pencil Pro
I would buy this JUST for the camera being in a place that makes face unlock not fail 99% of the time because I'm covering the camera with my thumb.
drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Ok now I’m sure.

No live virus.

drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Yes, but that's just an opportunistic infection of cow flavored H5N1. It's not a new strain that will transmit human to human.

With pigs...the risk is a mutation occurs within a pig that then transmits to humans that allows humans can transmit to other humans.

drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Yes.
drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Hear me out…
drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
We saw this movie before in the 70s. “The population bomb” etc. All that Malthusian drivel assumed a static state when humanity is anything but.

You are discounting civilizations ability to adapt and invent by an absolutely incredible margin that is not supported by our own history of human events.

There does seem to be confusion on this reporting. NY Times claiming FDA confirmed just fragments, others saying they did not.

drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
This is what you’re looking for.

drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
The studies have been completed. The answer is no live virus.
drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Yes. And they confirmed that it has been in these samples.
drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
Only if a significant amount of people are being directly infected by the cows and a mutation occurs in a person to allow spread to other humans. So seems like the chance is low, but not zero.

The real worry is pigs.

If it makes its way to pigs, we are in trouble. From what I understand, pigs contain a mix of avian and human receptors that make them the ideal mixing ground for crossover. Cows do not.

drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
The virus is killed by pasteurization.

There is no live virus in the milk.

drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
They confirmed there is not live virus in the milk capable of replication. Just remnants after pasteurization.
drewcon··on H5N1 prevalence in milk suggest US bird flu outbreak in cows is widespread
We’re not even close.
drewcon··on How to use my science-based color wheel
Love this guys stuff. Super easy to understand content on color which is deceptively really complex.
drewcon··on Roblox executive says children making money on the platform is 'a gift'
My 8 year old son was not psyched when I told him “no Roblox”…

…instead I dragged out a bunch of old Xbox 360/One games and let him enjoy a world free of microtransactios, casino inspired skill trees and loot boxes, and weird sex predators.

At first he resisted, then he fell in love with Portal and Command and Conquer and forgot about Roblox.

I feel bad for kids now that are just getting sucked into these engagement hacked “games”. No fun.
