dksf··on Sudowrite: A GPT-3-based fiction writing tool
I can't wait to play! I wonder how it will feel for launching off points for Tweetstorms.
dksf··on Show HN: Self-Quarantine Book Club
I did look at Discord pretty hard and even set it all up for this community. But in the end I decided that enough of my existing network, friends, etc. have Slack on their devices to keep it simple to begin. Also, there's just enough of a download/learning gap that I didn't want to risk. It appears that if we want we could transition to Discord later, but I don't have any experience doing that. Have you seen people get stuck on the wrong tool and be unable to transition?
dksf··on Show HN: Self-Quarantine Book Club
Self-Quarantine Book Club is a community on Slack where book lovers around the world come together to discuss what they’re reading.

Each book has its own Slack channel, so it’s easy to find other readers, share thoughts and questions, or just sit back and follow the conversation.

As of today we're opening it up for more people to join.

dksf··on 10 Phrases That Make Angel Investors Cringe
Well, there are plenty of ways to build something interesting in the world. This is just one opinion... many ways to get it done... and sounds like you found one! Congrats!
dksf··on Tweet a GIF simply with @blippybot
We made BlippyBot as hack project to make our Tweets more fun. It's really simple to use. Mention the bot (@blippybot) and a query term (excited) in your tweet. BlippyBot posts a relevant GIF. Hilarity ensues! :)

You can try it out without even connecting your Twitter account, but it works best when you're connected so that the GIF flows naturally from you in the conversation.

dksf··on Blippy Reborn - GIF's on your iPhone
yup, we had to tradeoff controls, buffering, audio, and filesize for ubiquity of consumption and simplicity of user experience (i.e. inline/autoplay). Have you tried gifs in an iMessage? They're really fun to add to your texting!
dksf··on Blippy Reborn - GIF's on your iPhone
hahaha... well, they're both silly ideas? :)
dksf··on Blippy Reborn - GIF's on your iPhone
what are the main problems with animated GIFs in your mind? for us being playable in just about every context on the web/mobile was really important
dksf··on Blippy Reborn - GIF's on your iPhone
We're really excited to bring GIFs to the iPhone!
dksf··on I built this over a weekend. Curious if you like it?
well, the current short length is nice for a reaction, but I sometimes capture a little bit more on Vine. Maybe this is simpler/better how it currently works. Just wondering.
dksf··on I built this over a weekend. Curious if you like it?
Are you going to make it easy to make longer ones, too? This kind of feels like Vine, but it's cool that you can use them in private with texting, too!
dksf··on I built this over a weekend. Curious if you like it?
This is actually super fun! Well done!
dksf··on Ask HN: Is there an "AirBnB for Conference Rooms / Event Facilities"?

dksf··on Ask HN: Are there any investors that read HN?
+1 HN is one of my favorite sources for interesting stories, content, conversation, etc...
dksf··on Ask HN: "Rockstar" job listings, yay or nay?
Take a look at this posting on Quora for a related discussion: http://www.quora.com/Do-the-terms-ninja-and-rockstar-come-of...

The general sentiment is that it is neo-corporate and shows a lack of understanding and lack of concern about substance of candidates.

dksf··on Ask HN: Rate my startup idea "Be Caller Nine"
It seems like this is 1 feature which might be interesting to bloggers/podcasters. Is there a more generalized "podcaster sweepstakes platform" you could build? Help bloggers/podcasters engage their audiences more around giveaways/sweepstakes to generate buzz and attention, track brand impressions/dollars, present network of advertisers, etc... I'm not a big blogger or podcaster so I wouldn't likely be the best person to design this product to solve my problems. But reach out to real users/partners/potential customers. They'll likely tell you what to build.
dksf··on Ask HN: What's the worst thing that could happen to Google?
I think Google's biggest risk is in not owning enough of the most important corpora of web content which are getting created today: social information. The Internet is being reinvented as a network of people instead of just a network of publications. Facebook and Twitter are leaders in owning this people-content, but not really in searching it effectively yet. Even though Twitter is viewable (i.e. crawlable) and open, they still have proprietary data which could provide the best overall understanding of the information and relationships which flow through the Twitter platform.

The technology of web search continues to get commoditized today. Google is quite good at it, but Bing/Yahoo still do alright. Whoever provides a differentiated and important corpus of content for some fraction of web searches (i.e. social search or something like "real-time" or news) has the potential to capture the search behavior across all queries. Users only want to type searches into a single search box on the web.

Love this quote from the article... I actually had to re-read it to make sure I got it right:

"If you’re an investor, I’m looking for a partner to help me make Clicker the Ask.com of online video guides. I think you’ll find SetJam is a real bargain!"
