diyorgasms··on Tech Workers' Values
Right. Even at the top of the shit pile you're still standing in shit.
diyorgasms··on Man jailed 16 months, and counting, for refusing to decrypt hard drives
I think you make the mistake of thinking that people oppose all state violence. Many people approve of some state violence in the name of maintaining societal order, but oppose torture. And I would posit that coercive incarceration is a form of torture.

It is a mistake to believe that people are ideologically consistent. And I would be hard pressed to believe that torture is not more extreme or less legitimate than other forms of violence.

diyorgasms··on Man jailed 16 months, and counting, for refusing to decrypt hard drives
I think it's pretty clear that the parent is accusing the state of using torture to coerce compliance, which is a strong indication that the state itself is no longer legitimate.

If this is true for any religion, as you claim, then why the inordinate focus on Islam? It seems like bigotry against Muslims is the most likely explanation.

Also claims of being the "one true religion" no not inherently incite genocide, whereas Nazism does.

diyorgasms··on In Support of Free Speech
Is this a serious question? It should be evident why it's okay to ostracize an ideology founded on the belief in genocide of "lesser" people. While some interpretations of Islam lead to violence, the same can be said about probably any religion, and Islam is not foundationally rooted in violence.

If you legitimately can't tell the difference between a genocidal ideology and a religion then I cannot continue this conversation.

diyorgasms··on In Support of Free Speech
OK, so I would and have made the argument that brietbart is Nazism rebranded, since identifying as a Nazi is unacceptable these days (but decreasingly so it would seem).

However, there are far more clear examples of Nazis, like Richard Spencer, who writes pieces on the best way to genocide the black race and things like that. You do a disservice to the people they are harming by refusing to acknowledge that actual Nazis exist, are recently emboldened, and are gaining state power in some cases.

diyorgasms··on In Support of Free Speech
No but I don't think they should be legally required to process payments if they don't want to. I found other payment methods where I could though and did what little I could to oppose that decision.
diyorgasms··on In Support of Free Speech
What I see is a bigot being censured. Arguably someone that islamophobic has no place in a civilized debate.
diyorgasms··on In Support of Free Speech
Being a Nazi is a priori violent. They have declared an intent to commit genocide by subscribing to that ideology. They ought to be excluded from society at every turn, because their goal is the destruction of our society and the mass murder of our peers.
diyorgasms··on In Support of Free Speech
Refusing to voluntarily engage in commerce is hardly censorship. All this post is saying is "We're totally fine with neo-Nazis, so long as we make some money from them."

A principled boycott is not censorship, it is further free expression. Shame on shopify for abandoning principles in favor of profit.

diyorgasms··on Former NOAA Scientist Confirms Colleagues Manipulated Climate Records
Given the source of this release, I am incredulous, and suspect that the internal disagreements referenced were more akin to bikeshedding or perhaps just entirely fabricated for the purpose of political ax-grinding.
diyorgasms··on Reddit bans Alt-Right Group
/r/antifa is run by neo-nazi squatters who want to make antifa look bad. They probably should be shut down, and there are other places actual activists organize.
diyorgasms··on Trump Fires Acting Attorney General
What's more, it seems many sophomoric Trump supporters are Holocaust deniers, from what I see in pro-Trump communities.
diyorgasms··on I'm Loyal to Nothing Except the Dream
If 80% of people don't care then that's even more reason to have these discussions. There is no excuse for disengagement at a time like this. Disinterest and silence are allies of oppression.
diyorgasms··on Standing up for what's right
I find it amusing because the implication is that the alt-right views virtue as a perjorative.
diyorgasms··on DHS will continue to enforce all of President Trump’s Executive Orders
Trump guys are, have been, and always will be complicit in the pain, suffering, and death we are visiting on people. I will never forgive them for this.
diyorgasms··on George Orwell’s 1984 is currently the top selling book on Amazon
This is what intersectionality addresses. It's meant to address all forms of oppression, including race, class, gender identity, sexuality, sex, religion, ethnicity, etc.

I honestly don't understand why intersectionality has become this bogeyman for mainstream liberals. It attempts to bring people together to fight for common interests.

diyorgasms··on “Side Hustle” as a Sign of the Apocalypse
I just took an uber ride where the driver told me she left her granddaughter's birthday party to drive people. Maybe she has different priorities than I would, but I think it's more likely that she's economically desperate enough that she has to miss those moments to make ends meet. As much as I like the service uber provides, I don't think we should pretend people are working for uber without duress.
diyorgasms··on Calling bullshit
This is gaslighting. Facts used to matter. It used to be that politicians would substantially lose face for inconsistencies in policy (think John Kerry most recently). Now politicians claim to have never done things they are on film doing, and people believe them.

We are absolutely in a new mode of politics, one that transcends mere differences of opinion. To pretend otherwise does everyone a disservice.

diyorgasms··on ‘Routine’ Jobs Are Disappearing
The Democrats are absolutely liberals in the European sense of the word. They are pro-capitalism and have abandoned any pretense of pro-worker or leftist thought. HRC was George W. Bush reincarnate, Bill Clinton was as far right as any pre-Reagan Republican. Obama is a bit to the left of the Clintons, but he's still staunchly center-right and you'll notice that Obamacare is not single-payer nor does it allow for the government to compete in the marketplace.
diyorgasms··on Harassment at Apple: A personal perspective
I think what you were trying to say in your original comment was that "positive" sexism doesn't exist. That the author was being unreasonable when she interpreted her co-worker standing up for her as sexism.

I will assert that such "positive" acts can be and often are sexist. Negative actions can also be sexist. It is possible to take a sexist action while you think you're being helpful. Not all sexism is manifested in malice.

Consider similar racial stereotypes like "Asians are good at math" or "black people are good at sports." You might think that someone is positive, but those beliefs are deeply rooted in racism and racial stereotypes.

diyorgasms··on Harassment at Apple: A personal perspective
I don't think that the witch trials, which were effectively a small genocide against women, are a particularly effective metaphor for refuting manifestations of sexism.
diyorgasms··on NSA Watchdog Removed for Whistleblower Retaliation
I almost resisted making this comment because it's not directly on topic, but I feel compelled to say that the notion that present-day Russia is in any way communist is just laughable.
diyorgasms··on There Are Plenty of Jobs Out There, America
I see that they have to do that as a moral failing of capitalism, both that public schooling is insufficiently good for their children and that a worker's base wage is insufficient to provide for that worker's child's education.
diyorgasms··on There Are Plenty of Jobs Out There, America
That's the Fordist school of thought, which is not universally accepted. Labor unions and employee protections have been weakened to the point that the working class has the choice to either work for subsistence wages or die of starvation/exposure.
diyorgasms··on Tech worker resistance is crucial to preventing human rights abuses in the U.S
Doctors are also prohibited from assisting in "enhanced interrogations" performed by the US government.

>"Any interrogation process that...requires a health professional to monitor the actual procedure, must have inherent health risks" and is thus "contrary to international law."[0]

Torture is unfortunately political in America, with the president-elect and many on the right supporting it. And it's another thing an ethics board is standing against.

diyorgasms··on Arctic Is Warming At 'Astonishing' Rates, Researchers Say
I'd also be happy with banning climate change denial here, similar to how I assume Holocaust denial would be treated. Climate change is an existential threat to our planet and everything on it. There is no debate to be had. The science is in. Denialism of climate change is just as legitimate as Holocaust denial, which is to say, not at all legitimate.
diyorgasms··on Imzy wants to be a kinder, gentler version of Reddit
Voat is where the groups who were kicked off of reddit (pizzagate, jailbait, c--ntown and the rest of the "chimpire", fph) go to organize brigades off-site. It doesn't surprise me in the least that reddit bans people participating in off-site brigading activity, especially from Voat.
diyorgasms··on Amazon workers sleeping in tents
The politics ban ended early. This has been explained now in countless threads.
diyorgasms··on Censored Photographs of FDR’s Japanese Concentration Camps
This kind of shit should never happen. Period.

It is the duty of every decent human to fight this sort of tyranny by any means necessary.
