dayglo··on What happens if an entire class of workers loses faith in their careers
The devil is always in the detail with these sorts of online disagreements.

Let’s say you have a friend who is always miserable, always needs support, and turns every gathering into a therapy session for them and their problem. Let’s say you’ve been friends with them for say, fifteen years. Nothing has helped.

They never go and get therapy, they never go and do any exercise, they constantly do the same things over and over and still expect support.

Wouldn’t you stop wanting to hear them talk? Maybe even stop being their friend ?

What’s the limit ?

dayglo··on Who's afraid of Chinese models?
They weren’t saints but it’s a matter of degree. When did Obama or Biden abuse their position to enrich their own families? https://oversightdemocrats.house.gov/trump-family-corruption...
dayglo··on The infinite scroll may become endangered if controversial Calif. law passes
Exactly correct - there is no way to disable the infinite scrolling reel nonsense in Snapchat while still allowing messaging. So, my son is either cut off from his friends or gets crap shovelled into his eyes. This is a business decision: to leverage their having insinuated themselves between him and his friends against his mental health. Ban it all immediiately
dayglo··on Claude Code LSP
I had great results using this for the past few months, it’s the same idea but implemented as an MCP: https://github.com/oraios/serena
dayglo··on A Programmer's Loss of Identity
“When art critics get together they talk about Form and Structure and Meaning. When artists get together they talk about where you can buy cheap turpentine.” - Picasso
dayglo··on Show HN: Tweak your chord progressions for practice or composition
To hear them?
dayglo··on Mark Zuckerberg on Apple’s Vision Pro headset
A couple of years ago, I sat down with my friend for a game of chess. After a few minutes of chatting and playing, I realised that I had completely forgotten he wasn’t really there.

I took my headset off and it was like he had just left the room. I think that being able to provide the feeling that someone you love is there with you (when they are far away) is why people use a lot of tech.

It was a feeling that 2d FaceTime just cannot give you (and it felt like a bigger advancement than going from a phone call to video calls).

If Vision Pro’s face reconstruction thing works well I can see that being the killer app.

dayglo··on UK to crack down on plant-based food and drink labels
Wouldn’t the best way to fix this be to just require anyone selling cow’s milk to put ‘cow’s milk’ on the label?

Have you ever bought goats milk by mistake ?

dayglo··on Meta plans to devote ~20% of overall costs to Reality Labs in 2023, up from 18%
I sat with my long distance gf to watch TV together, and genuinely forgot that we weren’t in the same room. It was magic. Taking the goggles off and instantly going back to being alone in my house was an eye opener; I realised that while VR is not as good as really being there, it’s so much better than a video chat for feeling close.
dayglo··on Startup wants to copy you into an embryo for organ harvesting
What film is this ??
dayglo··on The ‘E-Pimps’ of OnlyFans
Or maybe just…free vasectomies? or even free condoms.
dayglo··on World’s first octopus farm stirs ethical debate
If I gave you a live chicken, a head of broccoli, what would happen when you tried to cut up each one with a carving knife?

You instinctively know what fear and pain are, and minimising those things is the point of veganism.

If plants feel their fear and pain far slower, then much less of it is happening.

dayglo··on What Happened to https://www.websters1913.com?
Seems to be down.

Maybe hosting costs went up after the popular post the other week…

dayglo··on Why do current graphical user interfaces not work naturally
I think this is why trying out new VR experiences is so compelling.

In a game about gardening you would just give the user a trowel and they’d already know how to play the game. VR devs are gleefully getting rid of quite a lot of metaphors and abstractions in UI that we take for granted.

dayglo··on Sample cloud-native application with microservices
This seems like a full-fat Build and Release management hosted solution (good job by the way, this looks great and I'll try it out).

I was more specifically asking Jeff which similar tools are cleaner, and why? Are there any helm drop-in replacements that anyone would recommend? Or is it really a shift to other ways of deploying, like these hosted solutions, or is everyone building their own k8s operators now...? Or something else?

dayglo··on Sample cloud-native application with microservices
What are the cleaner alternatives?
dayglo··on Cal Newport on Why We'll Look Back at Our Smartphones Like Cigarettes
There’s a good site that does this called Blinkist. https://www.blinkist.com/en/about/
dayglo··on Unprivileged Docker Builds – A Proof of Concept
Yes! now I can ditch my full-fat-vm vsts build agents! Thanks to your team.
dayglo··on A Lament for the LAN Party
We got a vive set up for our last lan (in halifax, UK), it went down well.

People will forget cables (power, network). Get people to bring extra joypads for the people who don't have them for when its time for a game of rocket league...

dayglo··on Introducing the 2nd Generation Boosted Board
Ive been waiting 13 months for my marbel board (http://ridemarbel.com). They're ignoring all attempts to get refunds too. Time to try and get a chargeback and get one of these.
dayglo··on English Syntax Highlighting
This would be fantastic for reading to the kids. At the moment I have to scan ahead to work out which voice to put on.
