dangwu··on Show HN: Draw a fish and watch it swim with the others
This was my first thought. It’s called Sketch Ocean and it’s in a teamLab experience!
dangwu··on LedgerStore Supports Trillions of Indexes at Uber
You’re implying that you should never invent new tools. But every tool was a new invention upon its creation. Also, all software is an “engine” for an “engine”.

React is popular for a reason. Declarative UI is a million times easier to implement and maintain. If a total newbie had to learn UIKit and SwiftUI then pick one, they'd pick SwiftUI 100% of the time.
dangwu··on Wikipedia daily most viewed pages
A lot of these pages look movie related, so it’s likely people looking stuff up on their phones after watching something.

dangwu··on Passenger with “no idea how to fly” lands plane after pilot incapacitated
Hasn't autopilot had "auto-land" technology for many years now? How is Garmin's different?
dangwu··on Vancouver Zoning Map
It’s nice that Vancouver doesn’t have a highway cutting it in half like Seattle, but it also takes longer to drive anywhere.

From my experience, many of its neighborhoods/dining districts feel really cold/loud/unwalkable due to the high speed 4 lane roads everywhere. Traffic noise still seems like a huge issue, trying to parallel park when cars are buzzing by at 50 mph isn’t fun, and the unprotected left turns are pretty gnarly.

dangwu··on Elon Musk to join Twitter’s board of directors
So you think he got 3 lucky breaks when with electronic payments, electric cars, and space rockets, and Twitter is too hard?
dangwu··on If software engineering is in demand, why is it so hard to get a job?
Have you ever gotten a job from just showing off your open source work, though?
dangwu··on Adult Obesity Facts
I'd venture to guess that a key difference is that most Black adults grew up in America while most Asian adults immigrated here, maintaining their previous culture's eating and exercise habits.
dangwu··on Stripe Reader
It shouldn’t be surprising. That’s how you steal customers.
dangwu··on Facebook extends its work-at-home policy to most employees
Non-engineering stuff, typically. Cafeteria workers, security, etc.
dangwu··on Ask HN: What passive income investments exist to supplement your salary?
Well, 10% is great, and he's diversified. I don't think it's that cut and dry.
dangwu··on Ask HN: What passive income investments exist to supplement your salary?
In hindsight, was it worth it compared to just investing all that money into the S&P500?

dangwu··on iPad Pro M1
I agree. Are there really that many people using iPads for high performance video/audio editing? Everyone I know uses their iPad as a video player or recipe displayer.
dangwu··on All-new iMac features the M1 chip
Yeah. I really wish they went with 27” if they’re going to pick just one.
dangwu··on Apple TV 4K Gets A12 Bionic
Yup - a remote with actual directional buttons was my biggest desire, so I’m really happy. I hate the touch scrolling of the previous Apple TV remote with a passion. It was so imprecise.
dangwu··on Bike Theft Map
He certainly didn't steal 3000 bikes at one time. If a person steals 3000 TVs each from a different store, should he only serve time for one?
dangwu··on Bike Theft Map
How in the world did he only serve 16 months in jail for stealing that many bikes?
dangwu··on Annie of Annie's Mac and Cheese
Do you not understand why fast food exists either? It’s cheap and easy.
dangwu··on Ask HN: Why there are so many ads on YouTube?
A lot of people watch YouTube using their smart TVs.
dangwu··on HN was down
Ah, my bad. I was wrongly interpreting OP’s comment.
dangwu··on HN was down
@HNStatus tweeted about the outage 3 hours ago.
dangwu··on Can’t use iCloud with “true” as the last name
I'm pretty sure Apple uses Java for their backend services
dangwu··on Apple now lets you transfer your iCloud Photos to Google Photos
If any Google Photos product people are here...

Since you're ending free unlimited photo storage, I badly want a feature that automatically finds all groupings of similar photos and deletes all but the best one (least blurry, most smiles, whatever you decide). Whenever I take photos, I tend to spam the shutter button, so I end up with 3+ photos of anything and everything. I could stay on Google Photos for many, many more years if I had this auto clean up capability.

dangwu··on Apple now lets you transfer your iCloud Photos to Google Photos
The Google Photos iOS app just uploads all photos that my iPhone takes automatically, regardless of album. Yours doesn't?
dangwu··on Apple now lets you transfer your iCloud Photos to Google Photos
It's part of https://datatransferproject.dev/
dangwu··on Apple now lets you transfer your iCloud Photos to Google Photos
It's the first part of the Data Transfer Project - an initiative between major online service providers to provide an easy way to transfer data between their services.
dangwu··on Silicon Valley stays on top as tech salaries climb across U.S.
Agreed. I'm always shocked when I go to Glassdoor and see how wrong the compensation is.
