codersfocus··on Social anxiety isn't about being liked
The reason you feel that way is because social anxiety correlates with anhedonia. The person doesn't engage in playfulness which is the basis of social connection across mammals. Because they aren't playful, you perceive this as "deepness."

This cognitive fallacy connecting deepness / seriousness to substance, and connecting playfulness to triviality and frivolity has unfortunately affected me (I remember arguing it in high school English class!)

Consciously adopting a "playful" attitude fixes my social anxiety, and adds charisma and humor to my character.

3d printing is not the approach that will yield organs. My money is on the work Michael Levin is doing on bioelectronics, where you essentially “command” (/convince) cells to turn into the organ you need by talking with them in cellular electronic language.
codersfocus··on Just How Many More Successful UBI Trials Do We Need?
I never said get rid of cash, CBDCs and cash can coexist.

Also it would make welfare more efficient, as you can garnish earnings from citizens to repay back the debt, whereas now it's just a gift.

codersfocus··on Just How Many More Successful UBI Trials Do We Need?
CBDCs and cash dollars can coexist. If you don't like borrowing from the government, no one is forcing you, you can earn and spend as you do now.

Interest is not always fulfilled by usury.

For example, friends lend each other money without usury simply because the "interest" comes from helping a friend.

Similarly, the central bank which is an agent of the government fulfills its interest by having healthy citizens. So there probably wouldn't be usury.

Instead, earnings from the citizen would be garnished if they had debt.

codersfocus··on Just How Many More Successful UBI Trials Do We Need?
UBI is the wrong approach.

Once CBDCs become a thing, citizens should have the ability to have direct credit relationships with the central bank.

We can then transition from a cash based monetary system to an accrual based one (similar to how businesses do their accounting.)

Public benefits, then, rather than being given out like it is currently (e.g. you get $200 for food stamps) will instead be based on allowing you to draw credit.

So, the eGovCreditCard would for example always allow any citizen to draw $200 per month for food expenses.

Potentially, if we want to do more generous policies a la "UBI," we could add e.g. $1000 always being allowed per month for rent.

Health care similarly, instead of if the archaic and very inefficient system we have now where those on the dole often go to emergency rooms, money is funneled through "insurance", etc... would allow you to draw money for regular doctor care. Maybe at a set maxiumim limit per citizen, e.g. $1M.

If you were going to give an example, Switzerland would have been a good one. But they have elements of exactly what I'm talking about, considering there are French, Italian, German quarters of the country.

Nordics have only recently become democracies, <100 years ago.

To clarify, the context of the discussion was the resiliency of democracy, not some dick measuring contest of which country is presently more democratic.

codersfocus··on Show HN: I built a task manager that separates "do" and "due" dates
Yeah definitely not ready for prime time yet. I'm working on a reddit community to discuss this concept though, will add some prompts and how to use it there.

https://www.reddit.com/r/PromptYourself/

codersfocus··on Show HN: I built a task manager that separates "do" and "due" dates
It's not so much a task database that people need. People need a way to structure their day. I find the calendar approach a lot of these apps use to be too cumbersome. I want structure, but something looser.

I'm working on my solution to this, that I call a "process manager." You have prompts that are composed of the prompt text, a recurrence pattern, and some prefill or "carry over" state. Essentially, a human version of a Turing machine.

Each day has a list, of the prompts that are due to show up that day. You can print it from your phone, and keep the paper folded and always with you.

Processes > projects. Our life is naturally process based. If you use food as an example, it's not enough to go grocery shopping once or make a meal once. Instead, "staying fed" is a never ending process. You can subordinate those tasks to that process, though.

So processes like that need to be managed, and currently there aren't any tools for that I know of.

I launched it on Testflight yesterday if anyone wants to give a spin: https://testflight.apple.com/join/2VNkUqy9

I am planing on adding more powerful features, like the ability to script the prompt instead of having it be static text.

codersfocus··on Language is not essential for the cognitive processes that underlie thought
While not essential for thought, language is a very important tool in shaping and sharing thoughts.

Another related tool is religion (for emotions instead of thoughts,) which funnily enough faces the same divergence language does.

Right now society that calls itself "secular" simply does not understand the role of religion, and its importance in society.

To be clear, I don't belong to any religion, I am saying one needs to be invented for people who are currently "secular."

In fact, you have the disorganized aspects of religion already. All one needs to spot these are to look at the aspects that attempt to systematize or control our feelings. Mass media, celebrities for example.

Instead of letting capitalistic forces create a pseudoreligion for society, it's better if people come together and organize something healthier, intentionally.

codersfocus··on Patent troll Sable pays up, dedicates all its patents to the public
There aren't any consequences to their decisions though.

Patent examiner shouldn't be a civil servant's job.

Rather, it should be a "bond" process given to private, accredited individuals / organizations.

If your issued patents are found invalid, your bond (which would be in the millions) is raided to pay back damages.

codersfocus··on Timeshare owner? The Mexican drug cartels want you
This is an area I’m passionate about and am willing to start something if I can see the demand. Setup a form here if you want to reply: https://forms.gle/A6u433hGYSsybeig6

The equity part is a good point. I think the math can work out so that it’s similar to the existing buy vs rent issue people have for a main house.

codersfocus··on Timeshare owner? The Mexican drug cartels want you
Yes, this is the correct way to do timeshares.

I've thought of making a portal connecting people like this before, especially digital nomads.

Find a group of DNs who like the same countries as you (think a circuit), pool money to buy property in the 3 or 4 countries, then just hop over.

codersfocus··on Demographic decline: Greece faces alarming population collapse
Cultural problems are solvable by government, in the form of propaganda or otherwise. Consider the actions taken by the government against smoking.

By "Otherwise", I will give the example of China and its social credit system that got people to stop spitting in the street by deducting social credit points.

codersfocus··on Demographic decline: Greece faces alarming population collapse
I forgot to mention though, there are those that are hostile but mainly just in the way of anarchist / commie / antifacist politics, which seems to be fairly common based on how much graffiti I saw (then again, it could just be a loud minority.) You'll see stuff like "immigrants welcome, tourists fuck off" and anti airbnb graffiti. But it's harmless, and didn't detect any of it when talking with real people.
codersfocus··on Demographic decline: Greece faces alarming population collapse
Yes, they are friendly. It's part of the culture since ancient times -- xenophilos I believe they call it.

It came from the ancient religion, where the Gods would impersonate humans and stay at lodgings. If people were inhospitable, the Gods would curse them.

codersfocus··on Demographic decline: Greece faces alarming population collapse
You're wrong, it has to do with culture. Very little is effected by economics.

It reminds me a lot like hobbies people associate with rich people, like traveling.

If traveling is a real hobby for you, you will find a way to do it even if you're poor like I did when I was young. For me it was through mistake airfare scanners and hostels, but some very poor 3rd world people literally just walk / bike around the world. Sleep in tents, and pan handle / or do some odd jobs for food money.

If there's a will, there's a way.
