cesarsalazar12··on Ask PG: What Changed?
I went back and read both the thread and the original article and I think the OP is right.
cesarsalazar12··on An Overview of the Web
Hi David, this is a beautiful piece of work. I remember the first time you told me this would be a good interview question. Ever since, I've been far more interested in the long chain of tiered technologies that make possible every single every small action on the web.

Thanks for sharing :)

cesarsalazar12··on Dreamforge (YC S12): Make your own superhero
I was sad to discover there was no way to create a female superhero. The editorial in the newspaper page (homepage) mentions a female but she is only the ex-girlfriend and a fashion blogger. Disappointing.
cesarsalazar12··on The jQuery Slider Plugin with Infinite Style
Hi, it's breaking mine as well. I'm on Chrome 17.0/OSX 10.7.2
cesarsalazar12··on Turn.js - The page flip effect for HTML5
I couldn't agree more. All the CSS3/HTML5 craze really worries me. With all the new tools we have available, it's more important than ever to remember that with great power comes great responsibility (to care about our users).
cesarsalazar12··on What Is Startup Chile And Why I’m Leaving Mexico
As a partner of Mexican.VC (http://mexican.vc), a (pre)seed fund that invests in Mexican online startups, I can assure that the your vision of how Mexico works is quite incomplete. There's well enough funding in Mexico for early stage companies. You can find angels (Angel Ventures Mexico, Mex.VC), seed funds (Mexican.VC, Wayra, StartupFactory), early stage VCs (Alta Ventures, Ignia, Fondo Emprendedor CONACYT-NAFIN) and public grants (Prosoftware, Fondo PYME, AVANCE).

I'm not saying Chile is not a great country (I love Chileans), but IMHO your reasons to leave Mexico are fundamentally flawed.

cesarsalazar12··on The “designers should code” bullshit and a not so new idea
Exactly! HTML is way different from a programming language. HTML is a language that describes structure, not logic. The web is all about structuring information in a way people can make sense out of it. Any web designer that is not able to use a language to provide structure, is not at the to of their profession.
cesarsalazar12··on A lesson on the importance of encouraging your children with their projects
Really inspiring.

I don't have kids yet but when I think about parenting, this is what I always dream of. However, when I tell my "non-hacker" friends, they don't seem to get excited about it. I don't know why. For me, parenting is all about playing a supporting role in the kids journey to understand the world and learn to hack it for the better.

cesarsalazar12··on Google+ Notifications Chrome Extension
Actually... https://github.com/cesarsalazar/NoNo
cesarsalazar12··on Google+ Notifications Chrome Extension
I agree. I was hoping for an extension that does the opposite: document.getElementById("gbgs1").style.display = "none"
cesarsalazar12··on Why Leaves Really Fall Off Trees
Can't avoid reading "_why leaves, really falls off trees"
cesarsalazar12··on If you want to build something great, it shouldn't matter where you live.
Hi HN, this is a brief blog post collaboratively written by the Mexican.VC team. We intend to increase awareness in our space that access to market opportunities is ubiquitous. Therefore we should be paying more attention to founders working on startups outside SV or in a broader sense, the US. We would appreciate your feedback.
cesarsalazar12··on Onswipe Partners With Automattic To Power iPad Traffic
Great news for a very ballsy startup. They haven't been afraid of telling people how swipes are going to replace clicks in most terms. At first I was skeptical, but the move by Wordpress just confirms that they truly have something.
cesarsalazar12··on SuperHappyDevHouse
At first I was stunned. It had never occurred to me that there were people that didn't like the cultural aspect of hacking/programming. But to be honest, after a couple of minutes of trying to look at this with some perspective, I can imagine what this guy feels. It has happened to me when I regard other cultures, cinematographers for instance. I've always felt they are way too much into something that I regard as a simple thing. I usually feel they're trying to outsmart me by saying "Oh, you didn't get the reference? I just saw it coming!"
cesarsalazar12··on A/B test anything with Var.to, a link shortener with variable destinations
I really like your URL approach to A/B testing. I gave the product a try and found a couple of things you guys might want to fix:

- The copy to clipboard button isn't really working. At least not on Chrome 9.0.597 on OSX10.6.6

- Using cufon for the actual URL I want to copy isn't the best idea. It makes it really difficult to do a traditional "select and copy".

- There's no way to delete/edit a URL

- The title/description this for each URL may be a bit too much to ask. At least as an early user with just a couple of short URLs in the list.

Something more controversial (and also more important). What I expect from a URL shortener is a permanent redirect, not an iFrame. Some mayor website don't even allow rendering their pages inside iFrames (namely Twitter and Facebook)

I didn't find a feedback link in your page, that's why I'm doing this here.

Congrats for the realease!

cesarsalazar12··on Mac App Store UI is so hideous that it makes me want to kick a swan
Other things that the App Store lacks (again):

- A wishlist or a very simple way to mark apps that you are willing to buy in the near future.

- Price tags on every product. Not just the one's you haven't purchased. As I already have the iWork suite installed, I can't read the prices of those articles.

- Good autocomplete. The app store universe is a finite one, not a chaotic infinite one such as the entire web. Therefore, the autocomplete should respond accordingly. Terms that are actually app names should have some visual cue.

- A prominent search box. To be fair, they have the search box in the conventional place. However, being discovery on the the priorities of the store, search should be more visible.

- And let's not talk about recommendations. If Amazon is a tiger in terms of targeted recomendations, Apple's App Store is not more than a snail.

cesarsalazar12··on PHP needs to die. What will replace it?
I think most people is missing are missing the point. The issue isn't whether PHP, Python, Ruby or Perl are better as of today, but if we are missing something that is even more aligned to web development. For the past few years PHP has been the language of choice for many many programmers because as its name imply, it "pre processes hypertext" (and words actually matter). Do we need some new kind of language (not framework) that understands caching, REST, CRUD, templating, asynchronous calls the way we need it on the web of today (and the near future)?

I guess nobody here is calling for a new language to rule them all, or for a champion framework. I guess as hackers the least we can do is DO NOT assume that what we have today is what we'll need tomorrow.

I don't know if there's an easy answer to the dilemma (or if your arguments are solid enough) but it makes me think. Thanks for bringing this up.

cesarsalazar12··on The 40th SuperHappyDevHouse is tomorrow in Mountain View
So epic, I'm flying from Mexico City to attend.
cesarsalazar12··on Razor Syntax in ASP.NET MVC 3 Preview 1
I'm not against ASP.NET or this Razor syntax, but is this really HN material? Honestly folks, I'm clueless about how this got to the front page.
