cdooh··on Apple iPhone Will Fail in a Late, Defensive Move (2007)
"The mobile-phone industry is becoming a cozy cartel between the network operators and a limited range of manufacturers. It could certainly use a fresh blast of competition from an industry outsider." This statement is still true unforunately despite what ever else the article says
cdooh··on The White House Has Been Covering Up the Presidency’s Role in Torture for Years
I mean a birage of attacks
cdooh··on The White House Has Been Covering Up the Presidency’s Role in Torture for Years
I'm from Kenya and right now we've invaded Somilia in hopes of getting things, by that we mean Al Shabaab, under control. What worries me is that we're not as powerful or advanced as the US when/if they decided to attack us proper we're fucked.
cdooh··on The White House Has Been Covering Up the Presidency’s Role in Torture for Years
I remember that discussion. When these wars "come home" then there'll be cries to stop the torture.
cdooh··on The White House Has Been Covering Up the Presidency’s Role in Torture for Years
Not too shocking. I'm sure this is too much of a generalisation but Anericans don't like to know of the atrocities done in their name as long as their "catching the bad guys". The global war on terror has you making enemies of people who would otherwise leave you alone...
cdooh··on Nokia announces the X and X+, its first Android phones
The all powerful, at the time anyway, Symbian team didn't like competition and did everything they could to muck up Maemo/Meego development.
cdooh··on Nokia announces the X and X+, its first Android phones
It was abandoned because "internal politics"
cdooh··on Nokia launches a trio of Android platform phones
So the 520 was not "middle"?
cdooh··on Why There Will Never Be Another RedHat: The Economics Of Open Source
I don't really see why this may be a bad thing, the open source community continues to grow just fine and code contributions and stuff still happen. When I first read the title thought he'd be talking about how it's impossible to make money off opesource but that wasn't the case
cdooh··on Lenovo to acquire Motorola Mobility
Patents are messing up valuations of these companies...
cdooh··on Goodnight. Sleep Clean
I'm mostly glad that this will help with Alzhimer's(sp?) research. Being able to work 24hours matters less to me, I rather like to sleep, than treating the terrible memory loss that comes with the disease.
cdooh··on Jolla Outsells iPhone 5S and 5C in Finland
Wonder if I can send in broke N900 they upgrade it for me. I'll get in touch with them
cdooh··on Jolla Outsells iPhone 5S and 5C in Finland
I need to get my hands on one of these. I used the Maemo OS on the N900 for a couple of years and must say I loved it(having a hardware keyboard was a plus) I've got to say I love the community around it. Just about 40000users left on that particular system yet some of the best support I've ever seen. The community is incredible.

If this OS, and phone, can get that same sort of support and community around it(and I don't see why not seeing that they're based on the same cores built by the same teams) I see great things in the future. Like booting Ubuntu, Jolla and Mozilla from the same phone.

cdooh··on The NSA Reportedly Has Total Access To The Apple iPhone
At least we know why Obama still uses a blackberry
cdooh··on The Code of Life
She right, in the direction the world is moving today no one can afford to ignore technology and the interconnectedness social media brings but we need to remind everyone to not lose themselves to those connections
cdooh··on The War On Hackers
This should be upvoted simply because it's a article on Techcrunch that does really involve a company's latest funding round, VC's or an app.

But on a more serious note what the post talks about is worrying we can't have computer illiterate people making laws and decisions that could have far reaching implications on how we use computers.

cdooh··on My Summer Reading List
Check out Daemon by Daniel Suarez, it's a great thrilling read but the tech he mentions actually exists in some form
cdooh··on HBO Asks Google to Take Down “Infringing” VLC Media Player
The DCMA takedown process is broken, the burden is on services to proved their innocence and there are little or no consequences for bogus takedowns
cdooh··on Elop explains: why Nokia didn't choose Android to replace Symbian
Your definition of sexy is not the same as mine.:) But we can both agree there was serious potential
cdooh··on Elop explains: why Nokia didn't choose Android to replace Symbian
The Maemo platform had so much promise, and it was open source too!! The original Iphone and the N900 were on par. I'd know, I'm using the N900 now
cdooh··on Kenya Shilling Symbol
I learnt Ksh all my life so I assumed it was correct too
cdooh··on Kenya Shilling Symbol
I'm Kenyan, and I can tell you that I'm not quite clear on whether it is Kes or Ksh, I use the latter but see Kes used about the place. The symbol they came up with is great and I can see it being widely adopted(looks very much like their own logo:-D). Glad to see a story on Africa, particular Kenya, on the front page of HN that's not about mpesa though what up with the grey on black page? Poor UX
cdooh··on Venezuela, Bolivia offer asylum to U.S. intel leaker Snowden
This is what happens when you push an entire (sub?)continent to feel like they must flip you back for embarassing one of their own
cdooh··on Venezuela, Bolivia offer asylum to U.S. intel leaker Snowden
History is written by the victors
cdooh··on How Exercise Can Calm Anxiety
Running: not just good for the body but good for the mind too. Makes me glad I started running a couple of months ago
cdooh··on Newly disclosed papers give rules for NSA surveillance without a warrant
Ever leak invalidates the information the NSA tells the public. Now I have to ask do they even know what documents Snowden left with? Each new revelation seems to be catching them flat footed
cdooh··on Prominent Scientists Sign Declaration that Animals have Conscious Awareness
Does this mean they know right from wrong? The article isn't very clear on what conscious awareness means.
cdooh··on Why Edward Snowden Is a Hero
When a hardcore terrorist calls the future correctly you have a huge problem
cdooh··on Why Edward Snowden Is a Hero
I have to agree that in his actions the public benefit by far outwieghs the "security" risk. In a country where people have been blocked from travelling for mentioning "bomb" and "airport" in the same tweet it's not really shocking that the security apparatus is monitoring the internet. Like he mentioned there's a reason Osama's home had no internet or phone connection. So this leak only does one thing, show the extent that American's civil liberties have been eroded for something that has killed less people in total since 2000 than chocking
cdooh··on If the NSA Trusted Edward Snowden With Our Data, Why Should We Trust the NSA?
Please. This is not about can we trust them because someone leaked, any civic-minded person would have done what he did if they had big enough balls. Are we trying to say that out of the thousands of employees the NSA has no one else but this one guy felt there was something wrong with this program?
