Yes? Maybe its ok to think that other states don't have your states interests at heart?

Evidence suggests the powerful, especially the billionaire class, is regularly involved in sex trafficking. At this point I think it's reasonable to assume they are until you shown otherwise.

Frankly, to become a billionaire demonstrates a lack of empathy. Someday we'll recognize it as the mental health condition it is.

Do they have the US interests at heart? Or their own? I think the latter, almost certainly. That makes them adversarial from a game theory perspective at the very least.

I always wonder who the folks who build these things are. If they become too popular, it seems like a good way to have the government pay you a visit you will not enjoy. But they also seem like technically interesting problems to solve. Glad someone is out there preserving these games in any case.

CIs are incredible pieces of technology. But I'd encourage people to spend some time learning about sign languages. While fluency takes a long time, sign languages are really wonderful languages that can be so much more expressive in some ways than spoken languages.

Obviously, it's not either or. I just want to encourage folks who find this interesting to consider also looking into taking an intro to sign language class.

It would sound the same. The implants work by stimulating a few patches in the ear. Older implants stimulate fewer, newer ones stimulate more. In both cases they stimulate 1/1000th the signal a healthy ear does. It's like a fast Fourier transform that only selects the top N peaks.

Go listen to some simulated CI audio on YouTube. It's not great.

> There are no external components to wear, to remove, or to manage.

But also:

> The unit is recharged using a car-key-size unit called a GoPod, which attaches magnetically to the charging coil through the scalp.

How is that not an external component to manage?

Also, what if you need a new battery? What if the device malfunctions and you need to turn them off? What if the lithium battery gets damaged and catches fire?

It seems like a bad idea to fully embed the unit to me...

Plants evaporate a ton of water. So much so that corn fields create their own weather. A corn stalk is a high surface area, water infused, porous object. It's sending tons of water into the air.

Here are a few reasons someone would want that. You might not value them the same, but that does not make them wrong.

1) They have issues with the ways these models were trained. They may consider it unethical to use models trained on what they consider plagiarized material or on material that used a lot of energy for training.

2) They may have higher value uses of the storage space and compute resource.

3) They may view installation of apps and features without consent to be an infringement on running their device the way they would like.

4) They may find the general technology and its impact on society to be concerning, anxiety inducing, frustrating, or irritating. And simply not want to participate.

5) They think it sucks. Like, out just doesn't work or doesn't help them.
