They are refering to permanent components to manage. In the same way your phone is not permanently attached to the wall. But it is sometimes, despite being "wireless".

My son has CIs, and while he's probably unlikely to get these as upgrades, I did also find myself worrying somewhat about these exact scenarios:

  Also, what if you need a new battery? What if the device malfunctions and you need to turn them off? What if the lithium battery gets damaged and catches fire?

I’ve never heard of a pacemaker catching fire, so I guess we have those risks reasonably under control.

Or do those use different battery chemistries?
