If individuals get any benefit from this it's either accidental or police trying to protect their image.
Police forces were literally created to protect capital, and then back ported to supporting local communities. The parent poster is correct, police exist primarily to protect the interests of capital - that's literally their history.
That sure is a take, my dude.
In general, I don't mind queer folks calling me queer, but I really bristle when I hear cishet folks use it.
Regular housing offers no such guarantees. Maybe it's fine, maybe it's dangerous.
You also see folks specifically omit the T these days (LBG) to specifically include trans folks.
To be clear, the OP sounds like they are a good person and I'm not accusing them of anything negative! Just noting that some folks might interpret the URL differently than intended.
To say nothing about things like "passing" in the trans community, or stereotypes about gay men and lesbian women.
There's a crisis in LGBTQ+ housing.
Putting queer folks in with cishet folks puts the burden of educating those cishet folks on the shoulders of someone who is already struggling to find housing.
Someone experiencing housing struggles because they are queer doesn't need the added burden of being someone's teacher. Those people who need to learn the lesson that humanity is what's important? They need to learn that without relying on minorities to teach them.
"Thankfully you can just not get the same experience!"
You can only wring so much blood from a stone. The problem of declining working class comfort can't be solved by belt tightening forever. We, as working class folks need to start banding together and reclaiming our portion of profits.
See: https://iquilezles.org/articles/texture repetition/ for a good breakdown on some techniques.
The less legal sex work is, the more underground it needs to be. The more underground it is, the less recourse women have to address exploitation.
Yes, it's very obvious in food, but I think what you are describing is a symptom, not a cause.
Solve the causes of alienation, solve the food consumption problem.
What. Recreation is anything you do for enjoyment, whether eating alone or with others.
But also, saying you shouldn't use food as recreation ignores millennia of human history, culture, and biology...
As I've grown older, however, I've changed my thoughts on it.
Food is a mechanism by which we express ourselves. It's fundamentally creative. It's a means to share our culture, and it connects us to our history. Pizza is as unique a story as bubble tea, maafe is as unique as mafongo.
A bowl of white rice is a story as rich and complex as any novel if you know how to read it. What kind of rice? Why white and not brown? Where was it cultivated? Why was it cultivated? Who? When? How?
And food is more than that. It's sense pleasure. Furthermore it's sense pleasure we can experience as a community. Food gathers us, allows us the time to connect with one another. Cooking for others is fundamentally an act of community.
To try and reduce eating to something we have to do misses the immense emotional, cultural, community, and individual value we derive from it.
Have to fast during Ramadan? Job performance suffers because you aren't eating? Companies will absolutely go out of their way to make you miserable.
You might not be banned from practicing, but you better believe you aren't really protected either.
So yes, it's very much a women's rights issue, as legalizing and regulating the industry would allow women who are interested in the work to do so with protections and without fear of jail time. They can operate with relative security.
At least, that's how I understood it.
