callesgg··on ANSi Web Browser concept (2012)
There is a browser for the terminal:

https://github.com/browsh-org/browsh

callesgg··on Monkeys can sense their own heartbeats
People who are unwell probably avoid focusing on their interoception.
callesgg··on Always tell kids the truth (2019)
Interesting, do you have an example of a lie that you told them that you thought would be obvious?
callesgg··on How LCEVC works – A new approach to video compression
Why are we not seeing more, object recognition and things like camera tracking in video compression?

If you assume that the video you are compressing is made from a 3D scene you should be able to get very high compression ratios.

callesgg··on Are toxoplasma-infected subjects more attractive than non-infected ones?
Well, you wrote by its very nature.

For something to be of its very nature it has to be part of that thing.

No reference in the world can make one thing in to another.

callesgg··on Are toxoplasma-infected subjects more attractive than non-infected ones?
Being infected with toxoplasma is know to increase reckless behaviour. Having sex with lots of people can be seen as reckless behaviour. Using that argument the conclusion is somewhat reasonable.

Another one I have thought about is HPV virus(or other sexualy transmitted illnesses) and your desire to have sex. There should be a strong evolutionary pressure for the virus to increase your sex drive. If it does, I don't know.

callesgg··on Evaluation of science advice during the Covid-19 pandemic in Sweden
The perspectives that are used to give a picture of the situation are certainly chosen to make a point.

You could probably make a counter article using other perspectives to argue for a counter point.

callesgg··on Google Is Holding All Your Old Free G Suite Accounts Hostage
You don't need to pay anything to google or to use googles mail functionality to keep licenses connected to an account.

Just move the accounts to the free version of "google cloud identity.

callesgg··on A visual proof that neural nets can compute any function
It is not wrong.

It is just that the neural network would have to compute a model of the entire world or even the universe on an atomic scale. It would be computationally unfeasible but not theoretically impossible.

It is theoretically possible that the universe we live is already being computed on a neural network in some other external universe.

callesgg··on An ALS Protein, Revealed
That is assuming a very simple genetic model that is only fully valid in cases where a symptom is caused by a single gene malfunctioning by it self.

Also ignoring gene to gene interactions that can have adative or worse effects.

callesgg··on I have formally accepted the CEO job at Cruise once again
Lots of people upvoting in the new section.

I think that ycombinator sometimes forces up their own links, but that tends to be more obviously related to them like hiring staff to various startups.

callesgg··on Someone should probably start a bright home lighting company (2019)
I tried doing something like this last year, I purchased lots of 1000 lumen LED bulbs.

The light was blindingly bright to look at and it looks very strange in a room.

My takeaway was:

* that you need some type of diffuser.

* The light leak out of the apartment was crazy. My apartment looked completely insane from the street.

* The light warmth is very important. And proper sun coloured lamps don't exist or are crazy expensive.

callesgg··on Running a private mail server for six years, easy peasy
If you buy your own ip range you will be fine.

I used to work at a company who owned 128 address and the mail server was one one of them. A Whois lookup of the mail server IP gave my old boss as a contact person. Not just some random ISP.

We did not setup DKIM until maybe 2014 and that was not really necessary from a outgoing mail perspective cause we never got emails bounced.

callesgg··on No one cared about my spreadsheets
Uneducated people would not bother with investigating something like that and why would educated people try to undermine their own choices? It is not in their interest to do so.

On personal note... I for one did not go through higher education for the money. I did I so that I could alter my "social status". So for me it is not about my financials or really myself at all; it is about how other people perceive me.

callesgg··on 15 of 23 Monkeys with Elon Musk’s Neuralink Brain Chips Reportedly Died
Imagine they have the potential to make people with broken backs walk again.
callesgg··on Phone number has been used too many times
Recover the old account and remove it. Or just the phone nr from it.
callesgg··on Ask HN: How do you deal with getting old and feeling lost?
The human mind needs goals, you are without a goal (or you are ignoring your goal) so you feel life is empty.

Think hard and deep; are there things on this planet that you would like to achieve? Family, work, travel, home, inventions, helping others?

Write it down, and start to think about how to reach that goal. When you have some steps that would take you closer to your goal take those steps.

My personal take is that you are programed to wanting kids, so that should be a goal for most people.

callesgg··on Ask HN: Best hosted alternative to Google Workspace for email?
https://admin.google.com/ac/billing/catalog

Enable "Cloud Identity Free" then just go to his user in the admin panel and remove the users "Google Workspace" license.

callesgg··on Ask HN: Best hosted alternative to Google Workspace for email?
I will keep the free version of "google cloud identity" so I kan keep my google account and things connected to it; things like drive documents, YouTube account, app purchases, and so on. But then I intend to move my email domain to iCloud.
callesgg··on Go performance from version 1.2 to 1.18
No, you are here to try to be funny. But you don't understand your audience so you failed.
callesgg··on Google requiring all ‘G Suite legacy free edition’ users to start paying
Yes, you need to "upgrade" to "workspace" first then the "Cloud Identity" option becomes visible and after that you can "downgrade" to "Cloud Identity".
callesgg··on Cannabis use produces persistent cognitive impairments: meta review
That is my thoght to. One function (like some type of memory)goes down in performance cause it’s performance was based on a trade of with some other aspect of thinking.

For example performance on learning through reading could be a local maximum for that function but part of a local minimum for some type of larger scale thinking like creativity or imagination.

callesgg··on Tarrare
It does explain obesity.

The fact that different people burn different amounts of calories due to genetics and epi-genetics and other environmental factors does not invalidate calories in calories out.

callesgg··on Intellectual Loneliness
I must say I want to give you some support! One could start to think about the audience on HN when one sees this thread where so many people are disagreeing with you, when you are so obviously right.
callesgg··on I cut my cloud bill by 95% using Traefik, Tailscale, and K3s
Meh, overly complicated solution to a problem that could have been solved with a few lines of iptable config.
callesgg··on Northvolt assembles first lithium-ion battery cell at Swedish gigafactory
What are you even talking about?
callesgg··on Sequencing your DNA with a USB dongle and open source code
Many years, we still have problems simulating a single protein folding correctly. If we don’t find some new algorithm for simulating cells we would need computers that are billions of times faster than our current ones.

Also your dna is bootstraped from your mothers cells. And the prenatal environment has quite a large effect on development so your simulation might end up quite different from you if we only started with your dna.

callesgg··on Capital One to pay $190M settlement in data breach linked to Seattle woman
1.9 usd per person involved… Seams like the only people getting something out of this is the layers.
callesgg··on Ask HN: I feel so shallow and dumb when I see what other smart people are doing
Yes there is, with that said it is not what matters in his examples.
callesgg··on Ask HN: Why is there no good open-source LMS?
Moodle is very configurable, took me 40 minutes to create a basic theme so that it sort of followed my company’s style guide.

I also found it a bit complex at first. But after an hour or so it started to make sense.
