bx_··on Show HN: Visual website editor for Atom
Charging $ to use Atom? No thanks.
bx_··on Show HN: Buku – Command-line bookmark manager
I love Buku. Using it daily now!
bx_··on Beijing is Silicon Valley's only true competitor
Interesting. The Chinese devs I work with hate Kylin (probably because it's approved by the Party) and seem to really prefer other Chinese-created variants, particularly Lubuntu and Xubuntu. I've got no experience with Kylin, so it's interesting to hear these points.
bx_··on Beijing is Silicon Valley's only true competitor
Why Kylin and not Xubuntu or Lubuntu?

With that said, reputation and word of mouth is everything in China. Before an app like Didi was the king, people were changing ride share apps every month. New deals, new coupons, new rumors, etc... The tide changes really fast here. Didi just happened to be the only app that could hang in there.

Regardless of how many people there are, if 10 people online say something is not worth using, no one else is going to use it.

Really appreciate your perspective. Looking forward to giving it a shot. I've found Pocket to be bloated and getting slower and slower in China, so the speed and minimal UI is really attractive to me.
bx_··on Show HN: Larder, bookmarking for developers
Oh. Now I wish I didn't ask, haha. 1 link per day is a pretty steep restriction.
bx_··on Show HN: Task-Based Electron Web Browser
Really love the UI and simplicity of adding tasks/task groups, but this app is (for some reason) a beast on my battery life. I sent you an email about this as well, but it was using well over what I had anticipated. From the OS X 10.11.4 Activity Monitor:

    Alloy
    Energy Impact: 651.4
    Avg Energy Impact: 24.6
This is compared to Google Chrome, which, with 15 tabs open, has an impact of 11.2. When I looked into it, the energy impact of Alloy is near that one would expect on a stress test (ex: http://www.tekrevue.com/tip/use-activity-monitor-energy-tab-...).

Any ideas what would be causing this much energy consumption?

bx_··on Show HN: Larder, bookmarking for developers
Love it. But I don't understand this bit:

https://larder.io/account/

    Bookmark limit
    Trial: 1/day
    Paid: Unlimited
So far that's not true, unless I'm reading it wrong. I've started a trial account and have bookmarked at least 20 sites. Is there a restriction I'm missing here?
bx_··on China's Market Crash and the Man Who Saw It Coming
Came to basically say exactly this. The only people who didn't see it coming are the Chinese "aunties" who put everything in without any real knowledge of truthworthy advice. There's a lot of people who lost a lot of money in China this way. That's the danger of armchair expertise, I suppose.
bx_··on Own-Mailbox, the first 100% confidential mailbox
I think exactly the same when I read this.
bx_··on Livecoding.tv (YC S15) Is Twitch.tv for Coding
Looks cool, but I was a bit miffed by the use of the WeChat logo as a chat icon on your /livestreams/ page (next to "join Q&A live chat") (see: http://www.wechat.com/en/) when in fact you are using Candy Chat (http://candy-chat.github.io/candy/)

Looks like this was done somewhat intentionally, since in your HTML you have

    <i class="fa fa-weixin"></i>
(Weixin is the Chinese name for WeChat)
bx_··on Show HN: Longest Translation – Handy utility for multi language designs
The Chinese for "hello" was sort of correct. It returned 喂 on the bottom of the list, but that's really "hello?" like answering the phone, not 你好 which is actually hello. I was surprised by its selection there.

> China wants to fork their own internet, for their own people.

I thought it was pretty well known that the BRICS countries want their own internet:

bx_··on GoogleFeud
I thought this said GoogleFreud. I clicked hoping that my searches would have some judgment or analysis along side the results.

Search: Is calorie counting actually useful?

bx_··on Show HN: Share Your Pocket List
This is a great idea. I am in China, where I can load getpocket.com without a VPN. But your site doesn't work without a VPN. I can't even connect my Pocket account without turning on my VPN, and after connecting the two and creating my list, the articles can't be seen without the VPN. Defeats the point, really.

yeah, GIS comes back with nothing...
bx_··on My year with a distraction-free iPhone
I've done the same thing with my Android but I didn't consider it all that revolutionary. I just like a clean looking phone. Using Atom Launcher I can adjust the 'dock' (around the launcher icon) to slide left and right rather than the home pages. It's a much less distracting experience.

bx_··on China's Underground Wholesale Markets
Very skeptical of any article that begins with "The truth behind..." Also, a little annoyed by the authors misused of "underground" here -- these malls are not underground at all, and are often far more popular than the 'real' shops.
