Not defending Twilio, but this isn’t their doing. Every SMS gateway service now requires this due to new anti-spam regulations by US authorities. (FCC or FTC or maybe both.)
One avenue for text games is the BBS “door” games of the 1990s, which you can still find online today (see: telnetbbsguide.com). Trade Wars 2002, Legend of the Red Dragon, and Barren Realms Elite are some classics. These are turns-based games where you log in each day to play your set of turns. It can be addictive.
I was sympathizing until “I need hope that I’ll become rich.” Well, there are lots of ways to get rich, most straightforward being to get a tech job and work every day. But on the other hand if you really care about your idea I think you should write about it, join the company that is implementing it, keep researching it, keep loving it. I just can’t tell whether you really care or just want money.
The shade cast on Wordpress at the end is the article is a little disappointing. Ok, they’re behind on versions but for many years there was not much progress in PHP. Now PHP is flying and dependent projects are not keeping up. What can the PHP team do to help facilitate?
All the armchair education experts in this thread who say it’s not the distraction, it’s the poor teaching, (1) have never set foot in a k12 classroom as an adult; (2) completely forget their own experience as k12 students. You can have the most engaging lessons and any small distraction will kill the momentum.
Where have I seen this before? About 34 years ago on Star Trek: the Next Generation where android officer Data is trying to understand humor. Interesting insight from the science fiction writers then. Data could operate the starship and solve complex problems but had no understanding of jokes beyond being able to recite them from his library.
The whole point is that the producer may be hostile, or buggy, and the consumer must handle that. Asserting that it “must” be encoded properly does not make it so.
I said this on a past XMPP thread. It is a dead protocol due to mobile. I loved XMPP but without a push system it is useless on modern mobile operating systems.
What's the meaning of this negative commentary? Is HE known to be at the bottom? I have been using their DNS services for a decade and don't think I've ever experienced a problem. In fact I am impressed at what they offer for free.
Starts off as an interesting thought exercise on privacy. Turns into a crypto shill. Crypto does not yield privacy. How many times does this have to be said?
I have participated in the forums of dslreports.com for years and kevinds is one of the more knowledgeable in various areas.
The badmodems guy seems to be upset that he is outsmarted, honestly. Thanks to him for the good he has done, but if he can't handle being in a room with others smarter than him, this departure is for the better.
