bulldog13··on Ask HN: How do I balance all my 200 interests in life?
I would just remind you of the paradox of Buridan's ass https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buridan%27s_ass

"It refers to a hypothetical situation wherein an ass (donkey) that is equally hungry and thirsty is placed precisely midway between a stack of hay and a pail of water. Since the paradox assumes the donkey will always go to whichever is closer, it dies of both hunger and thirst since it cannot make any rational decision between the hay and water."

If you have many interests it is easy to not make any appreciable advancement in any of them. Rate your interests. Pick maybe 2 and work those until you are content with them or find out you dont really like them.

bulldog13··on Candy sells faster than fentanyl in San Francisco's open-air drug markets
Cheaper. Candy is stolen or originally bought for free with food stamps.
bulldog13··on An ex-Googler's guide to dev tools (2020)
Besides the tools mentioned, what are some other AI tools that can be used to accelerate coding for established codebases? I have some money to try out new tools, but am wondering if there are that are less "black boxy" and would work with a company's private instance of Azure ChatGPT?
bulldog13··on Ask HN: What are your most used Chat GPT prompts
This is gold. THANK YOU.
bulldog13··on Time to short Japan's 'bad governance' stocks, hedge fund says
Have you tried googling or asking chat-gpt? That is what I do when I don't understand things.
bulldog13··on How to calculate how much water you should drink
I am surprised they don't mention salt.
bulldog13··on Jaded with education, more Americans are skipping college
It doesn't work because the state interfered. College is so expensive because of federally guaranteed loans. This means colleges can charge any price they want because the student has access to any sum of money.
bulldog13··on More hospitals create police forces
Of course, there is nothing so invaluable in modern society than the life of a junkie.
bulldog13··on The Leverage of LLMs for Individuals
Anyone have any good examples or tutorials of specifically how to use ChatGPT for greenfield code development ?
bulldog13··on Effective Spaced Repetition
I use SuperMemo https://super-memo.com/ for memorizing things. It uses spaced repetition. It has a bit of a learning curve, but once you figure it out, very effective. I feel like I have seen an article on HN about it before.
bulldog13··on Get Running with Couch to 5K
What do people think about during their runs? Anything over 30 minutes I find very mind numbing and boring.
bulldog13··on Using ChatGPT to make Bash palatable
Wow man, this is amazing, thank you for responding!
bulldog13··on Using ChatGPT to make Bash palatable
Can anyone recommend some more articles about this ? Specifically, using chatgpt to write code? The more in depth, the better.
bulldog13··on Show HN: Tweek Calendar – A minimal weekly planner and to-do list
The world can't have enough ToDo web apps !
bulldog13··on Ask HN: How to deal with regret of not having kids
Look at the bright side, at least you are not an indentured servant to some lady who got pregnant and left you.

One of my friends is literally paying for the house his ex-wife brings boyfriends home to.

:: shrug :: Things could be worse.

If it really means that much to you...adopt ?

bulldog13··on Tell HN: Beware 'Ungrowth' in Your Job
Could you be more specific ?

Like if your weakness is poor communication leading towards unintentional hostility to coworkers or inability to prioritize work, that weakness is probably worth be developed.

bulldog13··on Do you remember Ultima Online?
I recently started playing "Shards of Britannia" - a Legends of Aria Community server. I am loving it.

It plays exactly like UO at its core, with some new frosting layered on.

Most importantly, you get that UO experience with a nice fresh GUI.

My malware bytes goes nuts when I try to visit http://www.uoforever.com - is this the correct URL ?
bulldog13··on Ask HN: What to do about ‘Good at programming Bad at Leetcode’
Memorizing is meant in a different context.

Ultimately the problems boil down into a few "types". So you are memorizing the types.

bulldog13··on Show HN: Instantly search 2M recipes
This is really neat! My challenge with random recipes from the internet is they are all 4 or 5 stars, but sometimes they are kind of gross :/

Can anyone recommend a curated recipe list / website even if it is pay.

bulldog13··on Ask HN: Alternatives to Ghost for Blogging?

bulldog13··on What is the business model for DuckDuckGo? (2017)
DuckDuckGo is finally good enough to use as a daily driver.

About 2 years ago I tried it and I constantly found myself using !g to get decent results.

Now I only need to use !g some of the time for programming or technical searches. It works great for everything else.

I just wanted to add this because I was anti-DuckDuckGo for awhile until I recently retried it.

bulldog13··on Show HN: I trained GPT-2 to write like Goop
