bondant··on A Guide to Undefined Behavior in C and C++ (2010)
I am not sure this warning is proving any overflow, you can get the same warning by just accessing table[i].

bondant··on ‘I've got nothing to hide’ and other misunderstandings of privacy (2007)
Well, you can add it to your favorite comments. Click the on the date on the post and then click on favorite.
bondant··on The Future of the Vim Project
I had no problem browsing that page with firefox a few hours ago, but it's not working anymore.

So yes, maybe the servers handling google groups are a little too busy.

bondant··on Why sqlite3 temp files were renamed 'etilqs_*' (2006)
Or the link to the official repository: https://www.sqlite.org/src/file?ci=trunk&name=src/os.h&ln=57
bondant··on Dell in hot water for making shoppers think overpriced monitors were discounted
It seems that in France around 96% of the advertised price do not comply with this directive. We need more fines.

bondant··on Ask HN: What are the most eye-opening textbooks you have ever read?
Precalculus mathematics in a nutshell, by George Finlay Simmons

I found the explanations for the geometry part excellent.

bondant··on Shutting down my legal torrent site after 17 years
It's a shame no such rights exists in Canada...

I think that in France it does exist such a right for individuals AND businesses. Any individuals or business that have been denied a bank account should be able to get a designated bank by the Banque de France. Here's the form for businesses: https://particuliers.banque-france.fr/sites/default/files/me...

More informations (in french): https://particuliers.banque-france.fr/info-banque-assurance/...

bondant··on Shutting down my legal torrent site after 17 years
Isn't there something like a right to own a deposit bank account in Cananda? Or is it too difficult to actually enforce this law?

bondant··on Framework announces AMD, new Intel gen, 16“ laptop and more
Did they announce the dimensions of the 16' model? I've not seen them.
bondant··on Unidentified Halo, an anti-surveillance wearable project
Well I don't know if you would consider France a free country or not, but it is illegal to hide your face in public space in France (unless it's for medical reasons or for a special event and so on). So I guess hiding your face from the face recognition system would be also illegal.

bondant··on Sometimes it actually is a kernel bug: bind() in Linux 6.0.16
I think it's really dependent of the domain you are working in. Some stuff is better tested than others. In my 5 years careers I found bugs (found and confirmed by compiler authors) in gfortran, xlf and pgfortran. So yes bugs in compilers are rare but sometimes you just keep running into them.
bondant··on Firefox lost ~16M users since last year
Isn't firefox also going to move to Manifest v3?
bondant··on Helix 22.12
The editor seems good as a modern vim replacement, but it's a shame it's lacking syntax coloring for some languages. For instance there seems to be none for Fortran. And creating what's necessary for tree-sitter seems much more complex than writing some regex for vim.
bondant··on #lang Lua
I guess you have already tried it but if not: there is the iup lua library which use native toolkit on windows and gtk on Linux. https://www.tecgraf.puc-rio.br/iup/

Also I would be happy if you briefly describe the problems you had with haxe.

bondant··on Patch OpenSSL on November 1 to avoid “critical” security vulnerability
Does OpenSSH use OpenSSL? I thought they migrated to LibreSSL.
bondant··on Show HN: I built a site that finds the cheapest place to buy a book
Yes bookfinder.com is great. For French books I also like https://www.chasse-aux-livres.fr/ which also search in some local french websites for used books.
bondant··on Ask HN: Apple dropping support for iPhone SE. What to do now?
Exactly. iOS 12 was released in 2018 and received its final security update last August. So if Apple does the same with iOS 15 we should get another 3 years of security update.
bondant··on “Return to Monkey Island” is out today
I really liked this old one: Sam and max hit the road.
bondant··on TGV unveils high-speed trains of the future
I don’t agree with all of what you said but if there’s one thing I completely agree with it’s the booking website. It is such a pain to book tickets on it.
bondant··on Freeciv – open-source Civilization clone
I used to play with people I met at university and work. But I have to admit that most of the people I invited to join gave up as soon as they launched their first single game. Most were turned off by the complexity of the game interface or the old school graphics.
bondant··on Freeciv – open-source Civilization clone
I used to play for several weeks on the same game with people across different countries. Although the game is (was?) missing a way to send a message to notify players it’s time to play their turn, it’s not difficult to write a small python script to parse the log and send an email.

bondant··on Python is Actually Portable
Does it work with tkinter? So I can have a GUI for every OS in a single executable ?
bondant··on Battery cost declines raise prospects of all-electric container shipping
There’s at least one company trying to do that: https://www.towt.eu/en/towt-home/
bondant··on It's quite hard to lose a Duolingo streak
In the case of polish it gave me enough vocabulary and prononciation clues to not be afraid to go to Poland and be able to use basic sentences when talking with staff at restaurants, shops and hotels. I was also quite happy to be able to understand basic stuff on signs and have basic conversations with native polish friends.
bondant··on It's quite hard to lose a Duolingo streak
I like Babbel.com Tried German and polish and thought the lessons were good.
bondant··on Ask HN: Can you share websites that are pushing the utility of browsers forward?
Many thanks for the link, I think that's the most interesting and original thing I've read (or experienced?) this year ! :D
bondant··on Ask HN: Are there any good poverty simulator games?
