bondant··on Lenovo’s new ThinkPads score 10/10 for repairability
> it's great to know that USB-C ports can just be replaced that easilly

Yes exactly! To me it's surely the biggest win. It's very easy to break them when the power chord is plugged in. I'm really pleased that we will now be able to fix them without having to change the whole motherboard (which surely very few people do because of expansive and how ridiculous it sounds)

bondant··on The state of Linux music players in 2026
There is a lot of choices in that area, but for me every time there was something I was unhappy with. So in the end I just wrote my own. It works exactly like I want, and it was a fun project to do anyway.

Next stuff I want to add in it, is the automatic translation of lyrics (maybe with the deepl api).

bondant··on Rouille – Rust Programming, in French
It would be LISEZMOI.md
bondant··on Digital euro could drain up to 700B euros of deposits in bank run, ECB says
I really don't understand the hostility here. The digital euro seems like a good way to reduce the power of companies like visa and mastercard, and reduce the fees too. If the government is providing a way to pay freely in a digital way, why would I pay a company to do the same (or worse, see the last scandal between the card companies and steam)?
bondant··on Bcachefs Goes to "Externally Maintained"
8 years ago was the first time that person encountered a problem with btrfs. But that wasn’t the last apparently:

> My last Btrfs filesystem died randomly a few days ago

bondant··on What to expect from Debian/Trixie
Thanks for the feedback!
bondant··on What to expect from Debian/Trixie
Does someone know if there's an increase in memory usage for Gnome or if it's about the same? I am wondering if I can update an old computer with only 4GB of memory.
bondant··on French petition against return of bee-killing pesticide passes 1M
Some people support this law, not because they think those pesticides are harmless, but because other EU country can still use these pesticides which give them an economic advantage. I don't understand while they are not instead asking for a European law to ban them. So every EU country would play with the same rules.
bondant··on USB-C hubs and my slow descent into madness (2021)
I frequently use the Switch's power brick to charge my Thinkpad, as it's smaller and so easier to transport than the Thinkpad's original power brick.
bondant··on Japan's IC cards are weird and wonderful
>Australia was the first country to widely support chip/pin

Do you have any source on that? I find it rather surprising.

bondant··on Teal – A statically-typed dialect of Lua
Not moving straight to a more recent version, but still cherry-picking some parts of them. You can see some functionalities from Lua 5.2 and 5.3 are working in Luajit: https://luajit.org/extensions.html
bondant··on Odin: A programming language made for me
Do you know if there are some professional games that have been made with Odin and released on steam or on game consoles?
bondant··on Simple Web Server

bondant··on Delta Chat – Email Based PGP Encrypted Chat
Does it means the delta chat messages appears in the regular mail inbox?
bondant··on Winners of the $10k ISBN visualization bounty
The winning submission kind of remind me of the Eagle mode file manager where you can zoom into a directory to see files in it and keep zooming to access subdirectories.

bondant··on Alzheimer's biomarkers now visible up to a decade ahead of symptoms
I don't know, but the parent's link article says:

>"I spent 20 years in the Navy, most of it in the hot spots, like the engine rooms of ships—110 degrees is nothing on a ship," he says. That environment may have caused an increase in heat shock proteins, which were able to limit the spread of tau and prevent the onset of Alzheimer's. The scientists studying Whitney aren't sure if that's all, or even part, of the explanation. But they are hoping that the paper on Whitney will encourage other researchers to look for answers.

So instead of going to work for the navy, one could just go to the sauna daily.

Edit: turns out that it might be true: https://academic.oup.com/ageing/article/46/2/245/2654230?log...

bondant··on Alzheimer's biomarkers now visible up to a decade ahead of symptoms
If going to the sauna daily is all it takes to prevent it, that would be quite a thing!

bondant··on Casual Viewing – Why Netflix looks like that
> I mean, how do people even decide whether a movie might be for them without having first inspected a good portion of it?

You can read review of journalists you usually agree with, ask for advice from your friends, check if you liked other movies from the same filmmaker, check if the movie has been displayed in your favorite movie theater or in the movie theater you dislike (but okay, won't work for netflix movies).

bondant··on Itch.io Taken Down by Funko
I'm also looking to move my domains out of gandi but stay with a european registrar. Did someone try netim customers' service? They say on their "about us" webpage that the company is still owned by the founders, so I would think the enshittification hasn't started yet. But if some have experiences to share it would be nice.

bondant··on European Commission's use of Microsoft 365 infringes data protection law for EU
But you vote for someone who is going to nominate a commissioner. So it is just indirect election.

bondant··on Building a USB SNES Controller
Can only recommend the iBuffalo SNES controller too, I have two of them and they are quite good. Didn't know the brand stopped making them, it's a pity.
bondant··on In Europe, trains are full, and more are on the way
Couldn't you book with another ticket seller? Like trainline.eu?
bondant··on Unfounded concerns about photovoltaic toxicity and waste slowing decarbonization
> Germany - the most vocal proponents of wind/solar - is the most polluting country in the whole EU.

Are they? Looks like it's Poland who is generating the most CO2 for electricity production.

bondant··on Windows 12 May Require a Subscription
>Copy and paste was invented at Xerox PARC in the 1970s, and desktop Linux still hasn’t worked it out.

Not sure what you mean? In most app you can copy-paste with C-C C-V as on windows. Am I missing something?

bondant··on French regulators order Apple to halt sales of the iPhone 12
I guess this is because the agency is underfunded. Their missions are not only to check the radiation on new phones but also to check all 2G/3G/4G/5G in France (about 200k) and investigated in case of radio-frequency problems.
bondant··on iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus
But if you know you won't need to charge them simultaneously, then you can only carry one cable.

For instance, I'm happy that my new laptop can charge on usb-c, so now I don't need you bring a charger for my switch and a different one for my laptop. I just take the smallest one and charge my laptop and switch with it (but not at the same time). I'm happy to know that I will be able to ditch the lightning cable for my next apple smartphone and only keep a single cable for my three devices.

bondant··on Facebook must pay $100.000 to Norway each day for violating our right to privacy
I am not aware of any country using the underscore to separate multiple of thousands, I just thought of it because it can be used for that purpose in some programming languages. Ans if it's true that no country is using it, then I guess it could be used as a 'neutral' way of doing it.
