bluehazed··on Transparent telemetry for open-source projects
This is really slimy, Google swung and missed and let Go of the bat here.
bluehazed··on A New Jailbreak for John Deere Tractors Rides the Right-to-Repair Wave
I feel like this comment is seriously underestimating the average farmer, these are people with complicated jobs and wide ranges of skill sets. Also when your livelihood is threatened unless you learn how to do something, you're gonna learn how to do that thing.
bluehazed··on Seattle's transit system struggles as riders refuse to pay
Public transit should be taxpayer funded and free at point of entry.
bluehazed··on Defect Process: 2D hack 'n slash game in Haskell with source

bluehazed··on Suez Canal says traffic in channel resumes after stranded ship refloated
I still think they should have added another ship.

bluehazed··on Toronto police pay $16.5m to protesters wrongfully held at 2010 G20 summit
Funny (not really) that Bill Blair is the Minister of Public Safety now.
bluehazed··on Townscaper – A building game inspired by the design of Scandinavian cities
Oskar Stålberg makes some great games. Dude did Bad North before this one.
bluehazed··on Judge temp bar on federal officers from using force, threats, dispersal: journos
Who will enforce this? The police? There's nobody interested in enforcing such an order.
bluehazed··on Canada aims to ban single-use plastics by 2021
Paper straws can be a choking hazard for some.
bluehazed··on Toronto is gathering cellphone location data to find people congregating
As the article says, this isn't legal, and violates Provincial Privacy law.
bluehazed··on Hellvetica.ttf – Kern in Hell
I've never had a font make me laugh so hard.
bluehazed··on Google Board Sued for Hushing Claims of Executive Misconduct
Yikes, this is looking pretty bad:

"Rubin was also 'alleged to have engaged in human sex trafficking': in an October 2018 lawsuit brought by his ex-wife, Rie Rubin, she claimed that Andy Rubin had multiple 'ownership relationships' with several highly paid women. In text messages produced in that case, Andy Rubin allegedly claimed that he could 'loan' these women as they were 'kinda like… my property.'"

bluehazed··on Google is killing Fabric in mid-2019, pushes developers to Firebase
It is never a waste of time to become a Plan 9 user!
bluehazed··on Ask HN: Can I put something in space?
Looks like that pricing is academic only, though.
bluehazed··on Netflix is the latest company to try bypassing Apple’s app store
It's possible they're using the uncomfortable security risks as a play to get better terms out of Google.
bluehazed··on LLVM Developer Leaves Citing Code of Conduct
So from what I gather, the developer is leaving the project because LLVM is involved with a project that offers paid internships to women/trans/genderqueer and racial minorities?

Classy.

bluehazed··on FBI chief calls encryption a ‘major public safety issue’
Your point certainly stands, but this is misunderstanding e2e encryption to a point.

Reasonably secure open source solutions exist at large for encrypted messaging, and people who really want to keep their communications hidden will simple not adhere to these regulations.

Meanwhile, we'd be weakening domestic standards for all "law abiding" citizens/entities. A back door is never just a back door for the person who put it there.

bluehazed··on FBI chief calls encryption a ‘major public safety issue’
"New FBI chief continues tradition of (willfully?) misunderstanding communications encryption"
bluehazed··on Albert Hofmann discovers the effects of LSD (1943)
Firefox on Android supports NoScript actually!

bluehazed··on The First PS4 Kernel Exploit: Adieu
This is an old exploit that has been since patched by Sony in firmware 4.07 (the last section of the article shows the fix).
bluehazed··on Windows 10 Fall Creators Update: the 10 best new features
This is really the only sane workaround. Unfortunately you have to set wired connections as metered through regedit (afaik).
bluehazed··on Ryzen Threadripper 1950X vs Core i9-7960X
Understandably different benchmarks have different measurements of success (scores vs. time spent in seconds, etc) but I agree this could be displayed better some way.

Perhaps simply outlining/indicating by colour or a visual marker for the better performer on the chart.

bluehazed··on Show HN: Make Medium Readable Again
I honestly haven't found NoScript on Firefox mobile too painful to use (https://noscript.net/nsa/latest/).

Maybe I'm just paranoid enough to put up with it though :)

bluehazed··on The Myth of Drug Expiration Dates
Some even become toxic, like tetracyclines!
bluehazed··on Why Canada Is Able to Do Things Better
I wouldn't necessarily say the bar is low... but I feel like the work culture is certainly much healthier here.
bluehazed··on Minimap plugin for Atom implements ads, refuses to revert, resulting in a fork
freeware?
bluehazed··on Start your own ICO crowdsale in minutes
Yikes. This is the 2nd or 3rd ICO generator company I've seen these past few days. Are these being generated too?
bluehazed··on O'reilly book cover generator
Wonderful, I had been making O'Reilly joke covers by hand, and it's quite tedious
