blondie9x··on India official empties dam to retrieve lost phone
The amount of energy wasted to do this has mitigated what thousands of households have tried to save to avert climate change. Sad. No wonder there is never any progress on climate change and greenhouse gas reductions.
blondie9x··on People are trying to claim real videos are deepfakes
How would that relate to the hashing explained here?
blondie9x··on Samsung bans use of A.I. like ChatGPT for employees
Need legislation to limit and control what data goes into LLMs. People need to be paid or at least always have a choice when it comes to being input for training data.
blondie9x··on Microsoft / Activision deal prevented to protect innovation and choice in gaming
Thanks for adding those to the list as well.
blondie9x··on Microsoft / Activision deal prevented to protect innovation and choice in gaming
This is great for gamers. Bethesda/Zenimax Media and Bungie were ruined by Microsoft. Way too many of Microsoft acquisitions have actually made it harder to compete and stymied innovations https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_mergers_and_acquisitio...
blondie9x··on Remembering Bob Lee
RIP Bob. I'm so sad, this isn't right that you're gone. Watching your last speech/interview before you passed on https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6tcjt7rV-rA
blondie9x··on Bob Lee, former CTO of Square, has died after being stabbed in San Francisco
Homeless is just the wrong word. It should be something else.
blondie9x··on Compostable fast-food packaging can emit volatile PFAS
Pick your poison. Micro-plastics or PFAS. All consumption has a trade off. Some are worse than others. Micro-plastics are causing major endocrine system disruption in youth. Testosterone levels and estrogen levels are getting all our of whack and causing gender related diversification issues that will grow exponentially over time with micro-plastic consumption levels increasing.

I would pick PFAS.

blondie9x··on Ohio catastrophe is ‘wake-up call’ to dangers of deadly train derailments
Remember Sri Lanka last year? https://www.npr.org/2021/06/02/1002484499/sri-lanka-faces-en...
blondie9x··on Ohio catastrophe is ‘wake-up call’ to dangers of deadly train derailments
I think we have major issues with all types of transportation. Truck, cargo ships, and train derailments are all fraught with major issues.

We need to ramp up efforts to make all modes of transport safer. It isn't just trains. Trains are probably the most safe out of all options.

blondie9x··on American Dream For Rent: Investors elbow out individual home buyers
This is a serious problem. I have lost bids on many houses to cash investors that then turn around and list the property for rent. Investors are creating armies of rental properties and locking people out of affordable home ownership.
blondie9x··on 22,000 smart thermostats in Colorado locked over ‘energy emergency’
With climate change worsening and more demand for energy this is an unfortunate necessity to prevent the situation from getting even more worse than it already is.

Until we have viable energy sources that are carbon free and sustainable without major risks like past nuclear implementations we need to get used to this or the problem will get far far worse.

blondie9x··on Iceland’s forest and bush cover has increased sixfold since 1990
This is great. But it isn't nearly enough to offset the amount of forest burning due to climate change right now. In just one area, Siberia in 2022 there have been 100,000 hectares of forests destroyed by wildfires.

This article says that in all of Iceland there are now 45,000 hectares of forest. So there is 225% more land burning in Siberia this year alone compared to all the forest planted in Iceland.

blondie9x··on Nvidia releases open-source GPU kernel modules
Is this connected to the hack/leak where the hackers requested this very move?

WE REQUEST THAT NVIDIA COMMITS TO COMPLETELY OPEN-SOURCE (AND DISTRIBUTE UNDER A FOSS LICENSE) THEIR GPU DRIVERS”

blondie9x··on Launch HN: Micro Meat (YC S21) – Technology for scaling cultivated meat
@asmertgen thoughts on this research https://thecounter.org/lab-grown-cultivated-meat-cost-at-sca... ?
blondie9x··on Show HN: I made a little math game named Summle
Wasn't that into it. I couldn't feel the connections as easily as Wordle between the incremental guesses.
blondie9x··on Huawei MatePad Paper – eInk Tablet
It looks like a ripoff of the reMarkable 2 eInk pad. https://remarkable.com/ I’m surprised Apple or Microsoft hasn’t made an eInk display. Btw what happened to Amazon’s Kindle DX? That was literally the pioneer in the large eInk display space but it disappeared. I miss Kindle DX https://www.amazon.com/Kindle-DX-Wireless-Reader-3G-Global/
blondie9x··on SoftBank's Sale of Arm to Nvidia Collapses, Arm to IPO
This is hilarious. It shows why buyouts are so broken and hurt shareholders over time. ARMH was public. It got bought out then tried to get sold out and is now back to where it started at a lower share price and capitalization.
blondie9x··on Ask HN: How do you deal with getting old and feeling lost?
Reality is time is running out. Try to push yourself to do more impactful work.
blondie9x··on Are We Really Engineers? (2021)
Doubt it. Mostly we chase TC and forget what actually matters to society and the planet as a whole.
blondie9x··on Microsoft to Acquire Activision Blizzard
You know there are essentially only two search engines on the internet right? Google and Bing? Microsoft is doing good and cornering market and is helping users forget that DDG and Ecosia and Yahoo are just Bing.
blondie9x··on Microsoft to Acquire Activision Blizzard
Dude. Antitrust please stop this.
blondie9x··on DuckDuckGo Traffic
We should have more than two search engines.
blondie9x··on DuckDuckGo Traffic
DDG is Bing. You all know that right? This is just another alternative Microsoft product like Ecosia and Yahoo.
blondie9x··on Google no longer producing high quality search results in significant categories
Kind of scary when you realize there are only really two search engines in the most of the world. Google and Bing. Google and Microsoft. The world deserves more than this. DDG, Ecosia, Yahoo, etc are just Bing behind the scenes.
blondie9x··on SARS-CoV-2 infects human adipose tissue and elicits an inflammatory response
This is huge. This shows that obesity drives severe COVID outcomes and mortality. We need to tackle the obesity epidemic to help fight COVID. Less driving. More walkable cities. More density. Less highways. We also need to lower food consumption to reduce climate change and greenhouse gases. Over consumption and food waste is one of the primary drivers of climate change.
blondie9x··on Apple CEO Tim Cook 'secretly' signed $275B deal with China in 2016
This is what they call selling out.
blondie9x··on We will be retiring Alexa.com
Wow this is something where Amazon wants to kill a service for no apparent reason. Maybe to use the domain for their Alexa AI instead? Otherwise to restrict information on the internet.
blondie9x··on Thefts, Always an Issue for Retailers, Become More Brazen, Goods Sold Online
You could use facial recognition like most dating sites do.
blondie9x··on A Website for Learning Vim
