blackysky··on Facebook App Ad Experiment Results
As your first campaign you should try to catch a large audience like people in US over 18.. that's it ! and test your ad copy first... then base on your data you can decide the perfect demography for your app.. Are you going to blow money on the first second and third iteration ... the answer is yes but at least you will know exactly what's work best for your app on facebook...Ad campaign optimization is not easy. My best advice is to use a great ad tracking tool... you must track everything... no guessing game here... Finally a small variation is you copy and/or app presentation could have drive better results with the same $30.....don't give up :)
blackysky··on First Bitcoin ATM
you are right but I'll still use async over sync anytime... :)
blackysky··on First Bitcoin ATM
readFileSync ... not good not good .... nodejs is sexier async ;)
blackysky··on Is The Web Dying?
Last time I checked you still need a data plan to download and load your favorite apps music videos emails etc... Is The web changing? The answer is yes. Is the web Dying. The answer is a vibrant no. We are more connected than never. It is an interesting era for software developers with creativity....
blackysky··on Yahoo reveals its new logo
the logo is bad and I'm not even hating, the 3D effect is horrible on a large screen with a high resolution. Drop that weird word art effect...
blackysky··on Data Broker Lets You See Their Dossier About You Starting Today
let me review this... an advertising company wants even more data about me... remind me those anti-virus software... let me scan your computer for free and boom even more spywares .... IP+browser info+SSN+full name+ location....that's gold !!! don't know how many people is going to complete the form but that's a great marketing campaign... scare people to create a sense of urgency...
blackysky··on Why JavaScript Will Become the Dominant Programming Language of the Enterprise
I like JavaScript and node.js but I simply can't wrap my head around callbacks. Some people simply love to nest callbacks... Anytime I see that it drives me crazy....
blackysky··on Twitter.com Domain Seized by Syrian Electronic Army
someone was able to edit the admin info. I checked with other whois tools and the SEA e-mail address is all over the place.... However I'm not sure they were able to do more than that...
blackysky··on How Gmail’s New Inbox Is Affecting Open Rates
Internet marketers are panicking right now. I've received a dozen of e-mails to teach me how to bring their "not promotions" e-mails back to my primary inbox...Hate it or love it but I think Microsoft Yahoo Apple are going to follow that trend too... Of course the system is not perfect yet but it is something regular people are going to love...at least my mom love it. I have 5 tabs up and running.I have more control over my inbox now. I can understand why internet marketers are mad because it is a new ball game to be next to Facebook updates versus in a box alone with other promotion e-mails... In the long term your brand your goodwill are your only and best weapons...Open Rates are just one metric because you can have one open and 5 conversions versus 5 opens and 0 conversions... the main difference here could be that one open leads to 10 shares on Facebook....This new UX is a non issue...it is really time to disrupt the e-mail system
blackysky··on Dropbox Acquires Snapjoy (YC S11) And Puts Photos Into Its Focus
great it's Instagram with a business model... Smart move from Dropbox and Snapjoy ... I guess Dropbox is going to be your main smart and easy to use hard drive in the cloud... That's a serious business if they are able to pull that off..
blackysky··on Show HN: Wavo.me - A social network for music to take on Spotify and iTunes.
I like wavo but before I tell you why I like it let me tell you what I don’t like. I simply hate the whole facebook sign in option… (looks like I’m not the only one) Therefore it’s been a long time since I had checked my wavo profile. I don’t hate facebook but sometimes you don’t want to share every single thing.

Now what I like: the UI is great.

Let me dig deeper and share with you my experience with wavo. Like I said I never sign in but every week I receive an e-mail from them. In that e-mail I have links to a playlist. The playlist is what’s popular at the moment on wavo.

This is the single feature that I love because I am able to discover new artists and new songs. Some songs are mainstream but the vast majority is not.

Of course I would love to tell you that there are more features on wavo but I simply don’t bother to sign in.

blackysky··on Comment your damn code
You should comment your code if and only if your algorithms has special pre-conditions and post-conditions otherwise your choice of variables name should make your code speak by itself... exemple of pre condition: your algorithm don't handle non latin word ... exemple of post condition , your algorithm only return a specific format like aa-bb-cc ...

or like my teacher said use your common sense, make your code as clear as possible.. I should understand it without you ...

blackysky··on Square Arrives in Canada
You are right but you and I know the Square brand so I won't have a problem to use it but here in canada any time Banks give you a brand new card with smart chips , they tell you to stop using the swipe system because it's not as safe as the smart chips... Guess what!? my mom stops and refuses to use a swipe system of any kind....
blackysky··on Square Arrives in Canada
Someone should tell Square that in Canada we use smart chips...I don't remember the last time I swipe a card....Cool product with prehistoric technology...
blackysky··on Craigslist Quietly Begins Testing The Feature It Sued PadMapper For Adding
you are undervaluing the data you and I don't see.... Last time I check Craigslist isn't their only source....I understand why Craigslist did it but I still think Craigslist would have been better with padMapper...
blackysky··on Craigslist Quietly Begins Testing The Feature It Sued PadMapper For Adding
I still think a partnership would have been the best choice for Craigslist versus suing PadMapper and start from scratch...PadMapper does have an expertise and data. Craigslist could have used that precious talent and data to create a better product....
blackysky··on Bye Bye Craigslist
At the end of the day it is Craigslist's data. I know padmapper was useful for a lot of people so the next smart move is to build your own data. A "craiglist" focus on rental only with the same features. The sad reality is you need your own platform to scale any type of services like that.Is it going to be easy and fast to build. The answer is no. However the reward and opportunity are huge....

Of course it would be great if craigslist could have an API or licence his data but it won't happen in a bear future ...

blackysky··on Meebo discontinued: shutting down on July 11, 2012
that's a great opportunity for any meebo alternative out there because a lot of people were more then happy to use meebo...
blackysky··on Quora raises $50M at a $400M valuation with Peter Thiel leading
Ok I know the word bubble is overuse but I think we are in a bubble. I know the market choose « the right price » for any project. We have seen this movie before:The housing market. Money was “easy” to get for almost anyone without checking those fundamentals. The main idea was simple prices cannot go down. Now back here, the idea is simple someone somewhere is going to pay $400M or more in a near future.... what's the plan B put ads again? Paid questions?

I'm just trying to understand how people can come up with valuations like that …. I just don't get it ...

blackysky··on 55,000 Twitter passwords leaked
I don't think those are legit accounts because you can clearly see pattern between passwords usernames and e-mails.....
blackysky··on Email is not broken: It’s a framework, not an application
love this post !!! e-mail is not broken but we don't use e-mails like 2000... we need a smarter client
blackysky··on Instagram’s founder, a marketer who learned to code at night
I find the story misleading .... it is one thing to build a prototype and another thing to create an app to support millions of people and their pictures.. on top of that he has great connection and a great environment .... you must check the big picture and not just take one element to create that cinderella story.... by the way his co founder is a real CS genius .... let's face it ...it is easy to raise money right now in this crazy environment...I don't take away his hard work and talent but just check the picture too....
blackysky··on CNN to buy Mashable for $200 million +
first congrats to Pete Cashmore and his team... now let's be honest here CNN is buying the traffic ...hate it or love it Mashable is driving a lot of traffic with their "spammy tactics"..CNN don't really care about the quality because they can add their own staff later...However $200M is a huge price tag ...is it as valuable as the huffington post? what's going on here...is it a race for page views with cheap content...news media is dying....
blackysky··on Programming Languages Class - Build a Web Browser (Free Class)

blackysky··on CarrierIQ not on Blackberry by Default
finally a good news from RIM ....at least RIM care about privacy and security. From what I understand they have never deal with CarrierIQ...
blackysky··on Paul Miller Leaves Engadget/AOL - Cites AOL Way Issues
Ars Technica does have stellar articles and they are not so short... I just think that it is sad that the main strategy is maximizing profit through page views over quality and creative writing... maybe I am crazy but that's my point view...maybe the actual system is broken...
blackysky··on Mark Zuckerberg on SNL (video)
gotta love is PR team ...at least he is a better public speaker ...
blackysky··on Woot's take on affiliate marketing
Most of the top affiliate Marketers out there use "mom blog" or "coupon sites" like fatwallet to generate "massive" revenues. In oder word they build a platform that they can use with affiliate marketing or direct business with potential advertiser. not everything is shady out there but you should never buy a make money online ebook or something like... Anytime someone tell you affiliate marketing is easy then run as far as possible from this person... now you know
blackysky··on Mahalo 4.0: All about learning
I was ready to say mahalo was the biggest spam website on the internet last week after the whole google search debate but now I think mahalo may have a killer product. right now it's like wikipedia 2.0 .... so far I like the 4.0 version ...maybe I'm wrong but I like this pivot
